Announcing The Trinity Challenge: £10M for Pandemic Solutions

Nearly one year ago, the World Health Organization officially declared COVID-19 a pandemic. The disease has led to a dramatic loss of human life worldwide and presented serious challenges to the world’s health, economic, and social systems. 

While this year has been tragic, at best, it’s also yielded examples of collaboration and partnerships across all sectors of society. In that spirit, MIT Solve has partnered with The Trinity Challenge to crowdsource solutions to current and future health emergencies. 

The Trinity Challenge, launched by Dame Sally Davies in September 2020, is now open for submissions to its inaugural round. The inaugural round will comprise a total prize fund of up to £10 million. One transformative solution will be awarded a grand prize award of up to £2 million, while the remaining funds will be allocated to further winning submissions, for up to £1 million per solution. 

The Trinity Challenge seeks solutions that use data and analytics to better identify, respond to, or recover from health emergencies. In addition to the grand prize, The Trinity Challenge expects to make at least one award, for up to at least £1 million per solution, per the following Challenge areas. 

• Identify: solutions that determine and limit diseases and the risks they pose to communities.

• Respond: solutions that decrease transmission and spread by identifying measures that are effective, equitable, and affordable.

• Recover: solutions that improve the resilience of health and economic systems and address the disproportionate impacts of outbreaks and pandemics, particularly on vulnerable groups.

The Trinity Challenge welcomes submissions from anyone, anywhere in the world. In addition to offering prize funding, The Trinity Challenge will aim to support winning solutions by enabling collaborations with its Members.

The deadline to submit a solution is April 15, 2021.
