Clean Home Application
PROBLEM:
Garbage disposal in cities like Kampala is a big challenge,as people resort to burning their garbage, dumping in water channels and drainages which has resulted into flooding and breeding places of disease-causing parasites
SOLUTION
To develop a mobile application system that will be utilized by people residing in cities to ensure convenient and proper disposal of garbage from their homes
IMPACT ON LIVES
In a currently busy world, one is able to make an order for garbage disposal using their phone and services provided within a limited time.By the proper garbage disposal we will solve problems of floods, diseases related with poor garbage disposal and ensure clean cities
The problem being solved is Healthy Cities
SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS OF PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH
POOR GARBAGE DISPOSAL IN KAMPALA
In Uganda like in many other developing countries, typically one to two thirds of the waste
generated is not collected. As a result, the uncollected waste, which is often also mixed with
human and animal excreta, is dumped indiscriminately in water channels and in drainages,
contributing to flooding, breeding of insect and rodent vectors and the spread of diseases such as
cholera.
Kampala city had a population of approximately 1.35 million in 2017, with an estimated generation
of solid waste of between 1,200-1,400 tons per day. It is the responsibility of Kampala Capital
City Authority (KCCA) to manage this waste. To meet this responsibility KCCA has contracted
private waste collection companies to upscale collection and transportation of solid waste from
points of generation to disposal facilities, with current dependence on Kiteezi landfill site.
Despite engagement with the private sector, it is estimated that only half of the city’s waste is
collected. In broad terms, private companies manage about 50% of the total waste collected,
while the other 50% is collected by KCCA, mainly in informal and semi-formal areas.
This solution is to be utilized by all residents of Kampala city who have access to smart phones to ensure proper garbage disposal
To automate the process of proper Garbage disposal by linking garbage collectors
and clients in residential areas of Kampala by developing a mobile application system
Uganda currently has 23.2 million people who own mobile phones and 17.1
million people have access to the internet as in the second quarter of 2017
according to figures obtained from Uganda communications Commission(UCC).
By June 2018, the number of smartphone connections in Uganda is approximately 6 million as
reported by nilepost. This clearly shows that smartphones can be utilised to control the risks of
flooding

CONCEPT OF THE PROJECT
Developing an android mobile application system that will help residents of Kampala request for
proper garbage disposal services, aid in the collectors’ navigation to the different homesteads in
need of the service and acknowledgement of the service.
PROPOSED OPERATION METHOD
The mobile application will be downloaded by the users onto their phones,
through the different friendly user interfaces, users are able to identify a company
of their choice, place a request and have their garbage collected and properly
disposed of from their home. By use of the navigation google support, collectors
are able to reach the different homes with the provided information and collect
- Prevent infectious disease outbreaks and vector-borne illnesses
- Concept
- New application of an existing technology
Currently people are moving from viewing webpages to utilizing mobile Applications. In Kampala garbage disposal management is carried out by collectors physically reaching out the few homes hence depriving the rest of proper garbage disposal channels since there is no single application system being used.
This solution is a software mobile application that will use artificial intelligence in leading collectors to the different residential areas of Kampala city
- Artificial Intelligence
- Social Networks
- Women & Girls
- Urban Residents
- Low-Income
- Middle-Income
- Persons with Disabilities
Am currently not serving any population however i am hoping to implement the project in a year and serve over 500 people which i hope to increase in five years to over 5000 users in Uganda since 6 million people use phones by 2018
I hope to meet over 2 million users of the Application since smart phone penetration in Uganda is on the rise
The major challenge is funding the project for implementation
I am planning to roll out the application to store so as to raise funds
- Not registered as any organization
Currently three people
Fortunately all the team members are software developers with the cimpetence to implement the project
Beneficiary
Residents of Kampala
Residents will pay a small fee on which a portion comes to the developer
So as to solve the problem of garbage disposal and also earn
- Technology
Kampala capital city Authority
I hope to use the funds to implement the project
We will use the funds to implement the project
