quantitative cognitive testing and digital therapy for PD
- Pre-Seed
Quantitative cognitive testing using EEG and haptic response of visual stimuli, analyzed by computer vision. Digital therapy of light and sound at specific frequency to manipulate brainwaves to help reduce non-motor symptoms of Parkinson's Disease, using same device.
Current cognitive testing relies heavily on physicians' subjective observation with checklist. There is no universal quantitative measurements to improve the precision of evaluation. Also, Parkinson's disease non-motor symptoms heavily rely on medications which always have side effects. Dopamine as semiconductor, we manipulate the brainwaves by sensory stimulation at a specific frequency to help reduce those symptoms.
EEG brainwave correlated to haptic response, analyzed by computer vision to quantify and visualize.

Digital therapy by sensory stimulation to alter brain waves, possibly such occurs as light and sound may manipulate enzymes in dopamine synthesis to cause specific brainwave responses (dopamine and noradrenaline are neuromelanins which are semiconductive).

By sensory stimulation perception as digital therapy, we alter brain waves to help reduce anxiety, induce sleep and visual attention, which are hallmarks of non-motor, cognitive symptoms of Parkinson's Disease patients. We also theorize that the perception to alter brainwave is a result of enzyme activity manipulated by light and sound. Using the same device, we also monitor and test cognitive state of the PD patients to systematically treat their cognitive issues of the disease.
Clinical trial result; mining data to improve the approach and product design - 50 patients in clincal trial at various stages of PD in Pisa, Italy
participating HighTexhXL accelerator backed by Philips from September to December, 2017 - In negotiation with Philips for product development and sales pipeline
Mining data from the users; improve the product according to the patients' and physicians' feedback - Further clinical trials and pilot study in the vicinity of Eindhoven, The Netherlands are under negoatiation

For visual stimuli in the cognitive testing, we use simplified music notation for spatial-motor instruction for the haptic response.
Use of specific frequency of temporal synchronization in sensory stimulation to manipulate the brain waves, which may be also altering enzyme activities in dopamine synthesis. That means we may not only be able to establish treatment for Parkinson's disease but alto in non-invasive manner.
Currently there is no cure for Parkinson's Disease. No universal treatment for non-motor cognitive symptoms of it, either. With our approach, we may be able to offer the much needed systematic treatment of for the cognitive issues faced by the Parkinson's patients, improving their quality of lives. Also, if our theory of enzyme manipulation is proven, it may be able to reduce and/or delay the starting of L-DOPA medication which is known to cause dyskinesia as side effect, which is one of the most devastating reality the patients face.
We are currently in touch with Philips, the medical device company based in Eindhoven through the accelerator program called HighTechXL, backed by the company. If agreements are met, we should be able to offer our device through their sales network.

We have been actively applying for grants (our research part of the team is based in Pisa, Italy) as well as in contact with VC. We also won the accelerator program called HighTechXL which comes with business mentoring and funds.
We need vast amount of data from clinical trial in the cognitive testing portion of our product with computer vision analysis.
Currently clinical trial is on hold due to the lack of funding due to the fact that one of the grants we have been hoping to receive denied our request.

Currently we are based in The Netherlands and collaborate with researchers affiliated with University of Pisa (computer science, clinical trial), Italy. With your global network, we would like to reach those who may be interested in our approach beyond the current regions and hope to scale up further.
Currently under negotiation with Philips through the HighTechXL accelerator program for which we may be able to secure their endorsement in product development and further (agreement pending).
