Emergency Drought affected Hygiene and Sanitation Improveme
It is in the above context that BAO is proposing to undertake a pronged intervention aimed at mitigating the impacts of the prevailing famine/drought and facilitating community hygiene and sanitation improvements. Bilan Awdal Organization particularly proposes to carry out this intervention meant to improve the sanitation and hygiene conditions of the IDPs settlements in Bannadir districts. By achieving this BAO proposes to construct 140 latrines in four IDPs settlements, provisions of sanitation equipments (rake, Shovels, Buckets to 23,000)
Living condition rapid assessment conducted by BAO indicates that 87% of the interviewed Rural responded that their primary need is hygiene and sanitations improvement.
Further, WHO and UNICEF had issued assessment report on the acute water diarrhoea (AWD) and cholera cases in the IDPs’ settlement caused by the ongoing settlement influx with poor sanitations conditions.
As the rainy season is approaching and a statement by the ADRA Somaliland water and information (ministry of water and development in Somaliland) indicates there will be more than normal rainfall in the south and central and both BAO and the project beneficiaries anticipate that the hygiene and sanitation situations go poorer and may contribute the spread of the AWD and cholera.

Identification of beneficiaries and distributions of sanitations equipments and supplies.
In each of the targeted areas a list of targeted beneficiaries will be drawn after an assessment of need and discussion with the local leaders. Supplies distribution committees shall be formed in each of the targeted seven clusters. Each household will receive 1 small box of soap (containing 10 pcs), 1 rake, 1 shovel and 1 bucket.
