Wear Forward

The World Resources Institute found out that one garbage truck of clothes is burned or sent to landfills every second worldwide. The producers’ unsustainable practices and the consumers’ unsustainable purchase, consumption, and disposal behavior are fast fashion’s negative impacts. Wear Forward promotes sustainability, circular fashion, and collaborative consumption through clothing as a service—all-in-one circular fashion marketspace for collaborators to swap, sell, lend, rent out, and donate preloved clothes and accessories and textile factory wastes; and fashion freelancing and hiring platform for collaborators to render and avail fashion consulting, sewing, and other services. We aim to revolutionize fashion and mindsets and build a purpose-driven community that eliminates and recovers textile wastes and unwanted fashion items and innovates these into products with better quality or environmental value while making profit and improving the planet and people’s lives. The fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world and we are a part of the reason why. The World Resources Institute found out that one garbage truck of clothes is burned or sent to landfills every second worldwide. Furthermore, a 2017 YouGov research noted that almost 1/3 of Filipinos have thrown away a clothing item after just one use. We often have many clothes which only end up not being worn in a long time or not being worn at all anymore—these are also already considered textile wastes. The producers’ unsustainable practices and the consumers’ unsustainable purchase, consumption, and disposal behavior are fast fashion’s negative impacts. These are what Wear Forward is fighting against.

In Wear Forward, we empower local artisans through livelihood programs with partner communities, conduct recycling initiatives and develop new textile materials with partner recycling firms and research institutes, and give back to the community through outreach activities together with collaborators. Prior to our launch: we were interviewed twice in university and wellness classes with 50 students to raise awareness on sustainability and circular fashion, building their own sustainable wardrobe, and finding their purpose; received 600 clothes and accessories donated by 35 collaborators; organized 3 clothes swapping parties joined by 43 collaborators; conducted a workshop on sustainability, circular fashion, and upcycling for 17 mothers from a sewing community; and participated in an outreach program and donated 115 clothes to 50 children.

Wear Forward promotes sustainability, circular fashion, and collaborative consumption through clothing as a service—an all-in-one circular fashion marketspace for collaborators to swap, give or take, sell or buy, lend or borrow, rent out or rent, and donate preloved, upcycled, and worn-out clothes and accessories and textile factory wastes; and a fashion freelancing and hiring platform for collaborators to render and avail fashion consulting, wardrobe management, occasion styling, fashion designing, custom-made garment, upcycling, alteration, repair, reconditioning, fashion photography, personal and gift shopping, sewing class, and other services. We aim to revolutionize fashion and mindsets and build a purpose-driven community that eliminates and recovers textile wastes and unwanted fashion items and innovates these into products with better quality or environmental value while making profit and improving the planet and lives of the people.
