This project solves the problem of incessant power supply for household lighting in developing countries.
Indie Lights aims to limit the need for extraction and processing of chemicals for batteries and accompanying carbon emissions. This is achieved by storing energy in its mechanical potential form rather than chemical form. Communities will be free from harmful disposal of batteries and chemical risks of water and air pollution.
Coils that store potential energy can last long after typical batteries are worn out and can no longer hold electric charge thereby reducing the option for replacing whole mini lighting systems with new ones; longer lasting coils also keep electronics circuits and LEDs in full life cycle use. locally repairable by replacing common electronic components, LEDs, coil, electric generator.
The parts that make up Indie Lights are also simple and locally repairable by replacing common electronic components, LEDs, coil and electric generator, which a local electronics hardware person or electronics hobbyist can repair.
