Hemp from Farm to Medicine Cabinet

Ireland will miss its global commitments on climate change by a large margin in 2020. In response we are focusing attention on system design that couples economic revitalization of rural areas, currently being repatriated by a new generation priced out of the urban market, with carbon sequestration in hemp farms. Our design carries its socially conscious focus by producing both medicine (CBD) and usable fibres from hemp and building downstream production facilities in the above mentioned rural areas. Our project supports job creation and skill development for rural farmers, graduates, and low skilled individuals in a full cycle of exportable good production. We are  testing opportunities from skin care to hempcrete in an effort to build a full suite of products from the carbon sink of Irish hemp farms. Disrupting concrete construction with a more environmentally responsible model could be exported worldwide. 

Our facilities are producing textiles and fibre, including hempcrete which will increase the production of renewable raw materials for products and packaging whilst supporting the design and production of mass market clothing that is biodegradable/compostable at end of life. 

In our job and skill development priorities we are focused on upskilling rural inhabitants of Ireland to thoughtfully apply advanced science and technology to the downstream production of a local crop. By focusing on rural hubs we intend to create communities of practice which support and enhance work through soft cross collaboration. 

Our hemp farmers are collecting data to manage, research, and export the carbon sequestration potential of our crops. Each of our downstream products will contribute to a goal of net zero carbon emissions. Our support of the nascent hempcrete industry offers opportunities to redesign a currently carbon intensive practice and offer an internationally applicable alternative building material. 

Our C-Suite is largely comprised of women and we endeavour to reskill mothers who are looking for new opportunities that are flexible to the requirements of family life. Our production facility offers alternative schedules and our skill development program is focused around an accessible online model. 

We are working directly with rural farmers in Ireland to increase production of fallow and farm land. We are also proposing to upskill rural populations, with a focus on reskilling new mothers, unemployed people, and tradesfolk in the downstream production of beauty products and hempcrete. 

Tapping into the rich history of farming and naturopathic medicine that rests in Irish soil we are growing, harvesting, processing, and producing hemp into CBD extracts and fibre. The extracts are added to beauty products which espouse the principles of waste free, organic living and not only provide an alternative to current market options but also educate the public on the value of waste free lifestyles in a channel traditionally filled with noise to the contrary. 

Fibres are used to build hempcrete and develop an Irish pipeline of trades able to build, repair, and maintain buildings constructed with this alternative material.
