We are addressing the significant challenge that many independent artists face: the inability to build a sustainable and profitable career due to a lack of access to business knowledge, marketing strategies, and fan engagement tools. This is not due to a lack of talent but rather the difficulty in navigating the complex landscape of digital music distribution, audience building, and commercialization.
In the U.S., an estimated 12 million independent artists are striving to create careers, but 91% of these artists report they struggle to earn a sustainable income from their work. The problem is exacerbated in economically disadvantaged communities, where access to tools, mentorship, and business education is even more limited. In our target community of Corpus Christi, Texas, where poverty rates exceed the national average by 4%, the barriers for creative professionals to generate consistent income are even higher.
ATeam is an AI-powered platform designed to guide artists through building their fan base, creating engaging content, and developing a profitable career. It acts as a personalized career coach, providing actionable insights, marketing strategies, and step-by-step commercialization guidance, all tailored to the unique needs of each artist.
The tool works as follows:
Artists input information about their current career stage, goals, and audience. Using natural language processing and machine learning, ATeam generates personalized career advice, helping artists understand how to grow their fan base, create content that resonates, and monetize their work.
ATeam then provides a structured roadmap, guiding users through key areas like social media engagement, digital distribution, fan retention strategies, and revenue generation through platforms like streaming services, merchandise, and live performances.
The current prototype is built using ChatGPT so users can have a conversation with the tool to build their careers in a structured format while also leaving space for questions they may have.
The future goal is to develop this into a standalone application, offering an even more comprehensive suite of tools that empower artists to manage their careers independently.
Our solution directly serves artists who are economically disadvantaged and underrepresented. This includes artists from low-income backgrounds, minority groups, and those living in underserved communities, such as our pilot location in Corpus Christi, Texas. Many of these artists lack access to the tools, resources, and education necessary to build sustainable careers.
Specific limitations include:
- Limited Business and Marketing Knowledge: Independent artists often struggle with the commercialization aspect of their careers. They are skilled in creating art but lack the understanding of how to market, distribute, and monetize their work.
- Technology Barriers: Most do not have access to advanced technologies or platforms that provide personalized career guidance, which limits their ability to compete in the current digital focused landscape.
- Economic Instability: Without clear pathways to income generation, many artists are unable to sustain their careers and are forced to abandon their passion to pursue more traditional employment for financial stability.
We provide these underserved artists with, personalized career advice, helping them navigate the complexities of fan engagement, marketing, and revenue generation. By offering step-by-step guidance on how to grow their audience, monetize their work, and manage their careers, ATeam empowers artists to build profitable, sustainable careers without expensive mentorship or courses.
I am not only an artist myself, but I also own a music venue, which gives me direct, day-to-day engagement with artists in my community. I’ve had countless conversations with independent artists who struggle with building a sustainable career due to a lack of business knowledge and marketing strategies. From my firsthand experience as both an artist and a venue owner, I deeply understand the barriers artists face in growing their fan base, monetizing their art, and maintaining long-term financial stability.
In addition to my experience in the music world, I have a strong background in digital marketing and web development. This skill set allows me to approach these challenges from a unique perspective, identifying where technology can bridge the gap between creativity and career success. I’ve worked with artists in my community to help them market their music, manage their online presence, and explore new revenue streams, which has informed the design of ATeam.
ATeam is a direct result of my collaboration with local musicians. I’ve engaged with over 50 artists in the past year alone, listening to their needs, frustrations, and hopes for their careers. Their input has shaped the development of ATeam into a tool that not only addresses their biggest challenges but is also user-friendly and affordable. By being deeply embedded in the community, I am able to ensure that ATeam is built for artists by artists, making it a practical and meaningful solution.
- Upskilling and Reskilling – Providing accessible, high-quality, skill-building and training opportunities for those transitioning between careers or facing unemployment.
- Prototype
We selected the prototype stage because we have successfully built and tested a working version of our solution using ChatGPT technology. So far, our prototype has provided independent musicians with personalized career guidance on topics such as fan engagement, content creation, and revenue generation. By using AI to simulate mentorship and strategic advice, we’ve been able to offer musicians actionable insights to help grow their careers.
Our initial testing involved working with a small group of local artists from Corpus Christi who used the platform to receive tailored advice on growing their fan base and monetizing their music. Their feedback has been instrumental in refining the platform's direction and improving the user experience. This real-world experience has validated our concept and shown that artists benefit from having a personalized, AI-driven roadmap for building a sustainable career.
Through these tests, we’ve proven that ATeam can help artists solve key challenges, and we’re now focused on expanding the platform beyond this prototype to develop a standalone application that offers even more robust features for artists.

What makes ATeam innovative is its ability to harness the power of AI to provide independent artists with personalized, real-time career guidance, a feature that is currently lacking in the industry. While other platforms focus on specific areas like music distribution or fan engagement, ATeam aims to offer a comprehensive, end-to-end solution that helps artists navigate every aspect of building a sustainable career—from fan base growth to monetization strategies.
By providing these resources to economically disadvantaged and underrepresented artists, ATeam democratizes access to essential career-building tools, allowing more artists to achieve financial independence than ever before possible.
In the long term, ATeam has the potential to reshape the landscape for independent artists by providing technology that is more affordable and accessible than the traditional gatekeeping and expensive courses found in the current landscape.
Instead of relying on expensive management teams or industry insiders, artists can take control of their own careers through accessible, tech-driven solutions, making it easier for more diverse voices to thrive in the market.
Impact Goals:
- Empower 10,000 artists to create sustainable, profitable careers within the next five years.
- Democratize access to tools and resources, ensuring underrepresented artists can compete in the digital economy without relying on traditional industry gatekeepers.
Progress Measured By:
- Number of Active Users: Track the number of artists using ATeam. (Target: 20,000 users in the first two years, scaling to 100,000 by year five.)
- Revenue Growth for Users: Measure the percentage of users who report an increase in income generated from their music due to ATeam’s guidance.
- Fan Base Growth: Monitor the growth of users’ fan bases across digital platforms (social media followers, streaming numbers, email lists) to track their audience engagement and marketing success.(Target: 75% of users see a 25% increase in their fan base after one year of using ATeam.)
These metrics will guide us in evaluating the success and impact of ATeam and ensuring we are meeting our goal of transforming the lives of independent artists by providing them with the tools to thrive in their careers.

As a team we have been working together on various solutions in the same space for 5 years but this specific project we have been working on for 1 year.
As an organization founded in the creative community of Corpus Christi, Texas, a city with a rich blend of cultural backgrounds, we recognize the importance of having a leadership team that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve.
Our leadership team is composed of individuals from various backgrounds, including minority communities and underrepresented groups in the music and tech industries. As artists, entrepreneurs, and community advocates, our team members bring different perspectives, which informs our approach to helping independent artists
For example, our Executive Director is a Black entrepreneur who has firsthand experience navigating the barriers faced by minority musicians. Other team members bring expertise from the Latin community, women in tech, and grassroots organizers in economically disadvantaged areas.
ATeam is designed to operate on a freemium business model to ensure accessibility for a wide range of independent artists, especially those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Here's how we provide value and generate revenue:
- ATeam is a free-to-use AI-powered platform that offers personalized career guidance, marketing strategies, and monetization tools for musicians. Artists can use the platform to grow their fan base, plan their content strategy, and access step-by-step commercialization guidance.
- We plan to deliver this through a web-based application that is easily accessible to artists with minimal technical or financial barriers. Our AI-driven platform is user-friendly, making it accessible to artists with various levels of digital literacy
- While the core platform is free, we will generate revenue by taking a percentage of transactions that occur through ATeam. This includes merchandise sales, donations, and fan support.
- In the future, we may introduce premium, paid features for more advanced tools or additional services, such as deeper analytics, targeted marketing campaigns, or personalized mentorship programs.
By keeping the platform free for artists and generating revenue through transaction-based models, we can scale our user base and have a greater impact on underserved artists. Our model ensures that financial barriers are minimized, while also creating a sustainable revenue stream for the platform’s growth and future development.
- Individual consumers or stakeholders (B2C)
Our plan for financial sustainability combines both traditional nonprofit funding models (grants and donations) and innovative revenue-generating strategies typically used by for-profit businesses. By diversifying our income streams, we aim to ensure that our revenue will cover expected expenses in the long term.
Luckily our team is built on entrepreneurs in our community who do not require a substantial income from working with our cause. They contribute a large portion of their time and energy to help the community via In-Kind donations.
With this next initiative, we aim to create a steady stream of income using out transaction-based revenue model to sustain the nonprofit in perpetuity as long as the software is successful.
We are applying to the Truist Foundation Inspire Awards because we believe the support, resources, and mentorship offered through this program will be instrumental in scaling ATeam and expanding our impact on independent artists.
Our solution addresses a critical need in the creative industry—providing underserved artists with the tools to build sustainable careers—but we recognize that taking ATeam from a prototype to a fully functioning, scalable platform requires additional funding, expertise, and strategic partnerships.
This partnership will add value to our cause specifically by providing opportunities for:
- Funding for Expansion: The financial support from the Truist Foundation will allow us to build a standalone application for ATeam, moving beyond the prototype stage.
- Access to Expertise: Partnering with MIT Solve will connect us with world-class mentors, consultants, and experts who can help refine our technology, improve the user experience, and optimize our business model.
- Strategic Guidance and Capacity Building: Truist Foundation’s capacity-building resources will help us strengthen our organizational structure, improve our operational efficiency, and develop long-term sustainability strategies.
- Networking and Partnerships: By working with Truist Foundation and MIT Solve, we will gain access to a global network of like-minded organizations, investors, and industry leaders.
Through this collaboration, we aim to leverage the combined expertise and resources of Truist Foundation and MIT Solve to transform ATeam into a groundbreaking tool for empowering independent musicians, ensuring long-term impact and financial sustainability for both the artists we serve and our organization.
