According to the latest Global Estimates of modern day slavery (2022) from Walk Free, the International Labour Organisation and the International Organisation of Migration: 49.6 million people live in modern slavery- in forced labour and forced marriage.
The 2023 Global Slavery Index estimate that on any given day in 2021, there were 1.6 million individuals living in modern day slavery in Nigeria. This equates to a prevalence of 7,8 million people in modern day slavery.
It is estimated at www.antislavery.org that 12 million children around the world are trapped in modern slavery.
The aim of this project is to liberate children under 18 from modern day slavery.
The factor contributing to the rise in modern day slavery is poverty.
My solution is to develop a Mobile APP/website that gives data and resources for survivors of modern slavery including, shelter locations, legal services, counseling services and educational opportunities with an integrated blockchain technology to facilitates financial support for survivors allowing donors to directly contribute to their needs and empowerment initiatives.
Risk that may be associated to the solution is handling the privacy and security of user’s data. We will solve this as thus;
1. It will be ensured that the users' data are collected and stored securely and that they have control over how their data is used. Follow data protection laws and best practices such as obtain users consent before collecting their data
2, We will be transparent about how the App/website collects, uses and share data with users. We will provide clear and easily accessible privacy policies and term of services.
3. Strong security measures will be implemented so that users data can be protected from unauthorized access, hacking or data breaches using encryption, secure login method and regularly update security protocol to keep users safe.
The target audience are children under 18 years of age. Children and teenagers are vulnerable to modern slavery because of poor parenting and poverty.
These children because they have no one to defend and fend for them are exposed to hardship and forced labour with a promise of food and shelter.
The solution will address the need because it will provide insight and resources of modern slavery survivors by linking them to opportunity for shelter, legal services, counselling services and educational opportunity. With the crowdfunding feature donations can be made for them.
Nnadi Obioma Emmanuel, the team lead grew up in the slum and had been a victim of modern slavery, he understands the pains of children who survived modern slavery.
All the team members are in the same geographical area and will participate fully in the project if granted.
The design and implementation of our solution is meaningful because not only will it proffer solutions to modern slavery but will partake in giving victims a new life
- Other
- 1. No Poverty
- 2. Zero Hunger
- 3. Good Health and Well-Being
- 4. Quality Education
- Concept
The solution is at the start up stage because the ideal is still conceived. The proposed Technical College for the training and education of survivors of modern slavery is undergoing registration with the Corporation Affairs Commission of Nigeria.
At the moment no students have been physically identified because the project is yet to take off
The aim is applying for this challenge is to win the prize. Before I saw the challenge, I had an intention of establishing a technical college where students will learn formal education and acquire skills like coding and so on, however the constraint has been finance.
If I win this challenge, not only developing the solution APP/website, our school (boarding) will serve succor to children (under 18) who are victims of modern-day slavery.
- Business Model (e.g. product-market fit, strategy & development)
- Technology (e.g. software or hardware, web development/design)
The solution will identify the reason behind modern slavery based on individual experience, connect the survivors to the nearest help point for shelter, legal service, counselling and educational opportunities and set up crowdfunding account.
This innovation will be the first in Nigeria and Africa if approved.
the solution will have list of support agencies, schools, legal professionals and their contact numbers. It will also list the number of spaces available.
it impact will be felt by the society as adults who abuse these children will be conscious of their actions because our solution will be like an eagle eye
1.6 million individuals are in modern slavery in Nigeria. There were 122.5 million internet users in Nigeria in January 2023. Kepios analysis indicates that the internet users in Nigeria increased by 2.9 million (+2.4%), this is an evidence that any news that goes to the internet becomes viral.
Being the first of its type in Nigeria and with the boom in the usage of the internet in Nigeria, it is evident that the project will have impact and gain visibility.
The goal is to give freedom to children who are survivor of modern slavery a good life and opportunity to live. With our proposed Technical College, they will get free/subsidized education and opportunity to unite with their parents and family.
We will measure our progress by the number of children we are able to rescue and the feedback from the society.
Our solution aligns with the United Nations goals on, No poverty, zero hunger, good health and wellbeing, quality education, decent work and economic growth.
The solution will be powered by blockchain technology and crowdfunding platform
- A new business model or process that relies on technology to be successful
- Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning
- Blockchain
- Software and Mobile Applications

We began working on the solution immediately we saw the challenge, however the Technical College plan was conceived in 2022.
The goal of the team is to have our solution across the globe. The team lead is an architect, Ahukanna Chidinma a Nurse, and Nnadi Basil a graduate of English and Literature.
The team is from different academic background but are unified with the purpose of solving the issue of modern day slavery among children less than 18 years of age
To tackle modern day slavery, traffic will be generated to the APP/Website from people who wish to report cases or get solution.
The solution will earn 5% commission from every crowdfunding donation. We shall also generate revenues from fees paid by other parents who enroll their children at our Technical College
Our App/website will be monetized. (google AdSense) and our social media handles will be monetized.
- Individual consumers or stakeholders (B2C)
We will always seek for donations and support from National and International organizations'.
