Bliss AI tackles the systemic educational inequity that disadvantages millions of children worldwide. In India alone, insufficient access to after-school academic support severely hinders the potential of children from impoverished backgrounds. While government-run or NGO-operated schools offer valuable in-class instruction, these children lack the resources for private tutoring enjoyed by their more affluent peers. This disparity exacerbates an existing gap in learning outcomes, creating a cycle where educational disadvantage perpetuates socioeconomic hardship.

Furthermore, a stark lack of personalized attention hinders even well-intentioned efforts.  Educators in underfunded schools are overburdened, and unable to tailor their approach to each student's needs.  This is particularly damaging for children with learning difficulties or those from non-literate households, who lack educational support within their families.

India's educational landscape substantiates these three challenges:

1. Chronic underfunding: Government expenditure on education hovers around 3% of GDP, far below the globally recommended 6%.

2. Socioeconomic barriers: Children of manual labourers, marginalized communities, and those in rural areas face severe disadvantages in resource access.

3. Limited individualization: Overcrowded classrooms prevent educators from addressing unique learning needs, and learning disability accessibility needs are often not met.

Bliss AI directly addresses these multifaceted issues. It provides an AI-powered tutor that democratizes high-quality personalized learning support beyond the classroom, bridging the opportunity gap and empowering a generation of underserved children, regardless of their circumstances.

At the heart of Bliss platform is Bliss AI, a cutting-edge tutoring system that adapts to each student's needs. It understands each child's curriculum, grade level, language preferences, and learning difficulties. Bliss AI eliminates barriers. Non-literate students can speak in their native tongue, and the platform supports diverse learning styles and challenges and input methods. To enhance understanding, students can upload pictures of textbooks or their work; Bliss AI will then provide tailored guidance.

Bliss AI isn't a replacement for teachers; it's a powerful extension. Educators on their end provide input on a student's learning profile (this is something the face-to-face educator would know best, making them a cornerstone of enabling Bliss AI to be successful outside the classroom), enabling Bliss AI to offer truly personalized support outside the classroom.

2. Beyond Tutoring — the Bliss platform goes further to aid after school education:

This unique approach, tailored to education, ensures Bliss AI delivers effective explanations and adapts to each child. It will always know, for instance, the entire syllabus focus of the educational program they are undergoing to aid best (along with the other context of the child); this is possible using RAG, and the bleeding-edge of extreme context lengths (like in Gemini 1.5 Pro).

Target Population:
Bliss AI primarily serves children attending underfunded, overcrowded schools in India, particularly those from low-income communities, rural areas, and households where education isn't a familial priority. These students often grapple with limited resources, lack of individualized attention, and a significant gap between in-school instruction and the support needed to succeed at home.

Impact:
Bliss AI aims to transform the lives of these students in several ways:

• Academic Empowerment: By providing a personalized, always-available tutor, Bliss AI closes the learning support gap. This translates into the ability to grasp complex concepts, improved performance and marks, and newfound confidence in their academic capabilities.

• Teacher as Ally: By providing teachers with data-driven insights into class performance and individual student needs, Bliss AI empowers educators. This synergy leads to more focused support in the classroom, better addressing the needs of diverse learners.
  In addition, the teacher gives Bliss a small write-up on additional information about the student (essentially, their learning profile - preferences, difficulties, etc.). This additional context is fundamental to Bliss's effective performance as an extension of school.

• Broader Community Impact: The ripple effects are significant. Improved educational outcomes lay the foundation for breaking cycles of poverty. Bliss AI, therefore, creates a pathway to better opportunities, impacting not just individual children but also their families and communities for generations to come.

My passion for building Bliss AI is inseparable from my experiences with disadvantaged students. I've tutored and developed curricula for hundreds of children through NGOs like VIDYA and Schoolhouse, across India and internationally. It inspired me, but it also broke my heart. I saw bright, motivated kids held back – not by ability, but by lack of support outside of school. No matter how much I wished to help them all, I was just one person.

The challenges these students face are directly reflected in Bliss AI's design:

• Grassroots Understanding: Studying in India's varied education systems, including the resource-strapped NIOS board, gives me a firsthand perspective on what an effective AI tutor needs to do. I understand the nuances that could trip up an AI that isn't built with these students in mind.
• NGO Collaboration: Partnering with NGOs isn't just about deployment; it's been essential in shaping Bliss AI. Their insights and my own work with marginalized students ensure accessibility and inclusion are at the forefront of the design.
• Teacher as Partner: Educators are invaluable. Through my own tutoring, I witnessed how face-to-face interactions can reveal a student's learning style and needs that no AI can instantly replicate. This is why Bliss AI is designed to work with teachers, enhancing their ability to personalize support.

Beyond my empathy for these students, I have the technical capability. My fascination with AI has led me deep into the theory and practice. I've studied in programs like MIT Beaverworks AI, I’m completing a course with Harvard's Dr. Hannah Rana (where I'm currently writing a paper where I use AI to solve problems), and applied my knowledge in winning hackathons using AI. This isn't just tinkering – I grasp the complexities of adapting LLMs for education.

Bliss AI is my answer to scaling the kind of help I used to offer one-on-one. That direct, personal connection motivates me, just as it ensures Bliss AI remains centered on the students it's meant to serve.

Bliss is at the threshold of the Pilot stage.

Currently, the core and most functionality for Bliss AI (the flagship feature of the Bliss platform) has been built — this includes extensive research and testing of the dynamic master prompt that's personalised to each child, multiple input modalities, context about each learner's curriculum, and text-to-speech and speech-to-text for non-literal interactions.

Development is currently in progress for the additional features of the Bliss platform (in addition to improving the already well-functional core), and it'll be ready by late June. The target platform after research is Android 9 and above (as the NGO tablets are older), and the tech stack has been established.

Bliss AI is being deployed as an app to around 100 students in a free NGO-run school, the Indus International Community School (on their school-provided Android tablets). In addition, deployment to VIDYA's free schools across India is underway after meetings with the heads of VIDYA.

This extensive beta-testing stage will help fine-tune and perfect the platform.

• Closing the Achievement Gap: Starting with Indus International Community School) and after a showcase with the principal, students are given 45 minutes a day to use it even in school to use the additional features and resolve doubts.
  More generally, using Bliss AI for at least 3 hours per week will show average grade improvement of at least one letter grade across subjects where Bliss AI is used - a clear goal.
• Teacher Empowerment: Within 6 months of use, teachers will demonstrate a 15% or greater increase in their self-reported ability to address individual student needs, based on surveys.
• Self-Directed Learning: Over a school year, students using Bliss AI regularly will show a 20% increase in seeking help outside of class hours (self-reporting in logs and teacher observations). This shows initiative to learn.
• Reach to Underserved: Within 5 years, Bliss AI will be actively used in at least 100 schools serving primarily low-income or marginalized communities, impacting at least 10,000 students directly.
