Incskill

- For-profit, including B-Corp or similar models
Incskill addresses the critical problem of unemployment and underemployment among people with disabilities, a challenge that significantly impacts economic productivity and individual livelihoods both locally and globally. In the United States, individuals with disabilities face an unemployment rate that is twice that of those without disabilities, contributing to an economic loss of approximately $1.9 trillion annually. In India, the situation is similarly dire, with over 20 million people with disabilities unemployed, mirroring the population of entire countries like Sri Lanka, and resulting in an economic deficit of about $112 billion.
Several factors contribute to this problem:
• Sub-minimum Wages: Many regions still permit employers to pay workers with disabilities less than the standard minimum wage, discouraging full economic participation.
• Limited Vocational Training: Vocational rehabilitation programs often restrict individuals to certain low-skill jobs, which do not fully utilize their capabilities or offer significant advancement opportunities.
• Low Expectations: Societal and institutional expectations for people with disabilities tend to be unambitiously low, further limiting their opportunities for meaningful careers.
• Accessibility in Upskilling: There is a notable lack of accessible educational and training programs tailored to the unique needs of people with disabilities, hindering their ability to acquire new skills necessary for better employment.
Incskill's solution is uniquely designed to tackle these challenges by leveraging technology to provide inclusive career discovery, upskilling, and hiring opportunities. Our approach is threefold:
• Career Discovery: We enable individuals to learn about various career opportunities through the lived experiences of others with disabilities. These stories are actionable, detailing how each person succeeded in their field, the techniques and tools they used, and how they overcame specific challenges related to their disabilities.
• Accessible Upskilling: Our platform offers courses developed by and for people with disabilities, incorporating inclusive interfaces and a virtual tutor that adapt teaching methods to meet different needs (e.g., non-visual pedagogies for blind users).
• Connection to Inclusive Employers: We facilitate employment by connecting our users with employers that have inclusive practices, thereby providing a complete pathway from education to employment.
Globally, our solution has the potential to significantly impact millions of lives by not only improving employment rates among people with disabilities but also by enhancing their quality of life and economic independence. Our current partnerships with state governments in both the United States and India and our user base of over 20,000 people with disabilities underscore the effectiveness and scalability of our approach. By expanding our reach and continuing to innovate in how we deliver our services, Incskill aims to address and mitigate the systemic barriers that have long hindered the full participation of people with disabilities in the workforce.
Incskill is a comprehensive platform designed to empower people with disabilities by facilitating career discovery, providing accessible upskilling, and connecting users to inclusive employers. The solution operates through a user-friendly online portal that integrates various technologies to ensure accessibility and effective learning.
• Career Discovery: Users begin their journey on Incskill by exploring a wide array of career opportunities. This section of the platform features real-life stories from individuals with disabilities who have established successful careers in various fields. These narratives are detailed and practical, offering insights into the strategies and tools these professionals use, thereby serving not just as inspiration but as practical guides for others. This also includes a generative AI-powered recommendation system that understands the user experiences, story, aspirations and preferences, and recommends careers based on the lived experiences of people with disabilities, labor market data and disability accommodations.
• Accessible Upskilling: Once users identify a career path, they can access tailored courses designed to meet their specific needs. Our platform stands out by offering an "inclusive virtual tutor". This is a gen AI-powered conversational chatbot that helps with explanation of concepts accounting for the unique needs and circumstances of the user (e.g. non-visual pedagogy for a blind person when teaching a concept that might otherwise be visual). Courses, on the other hand, are developed by professionals with disabilities to ensure they are genuinely accommodating and relevant.
• Connecting to Employers: The final step in the Incskill journey involves connecting users to potential employers. This segment of the platform allows users to apply the skills they have acquired directly to the job market. Incskill collaborates with a network of inclusive employers who are committed to diverse hiring practices.
Additionally, we facilitate connections between vocational rehabilitation counselors and our platform, allowing them to track and support their clients’ progress and career planning effectively.
Technology Used:
• Generative AI: This technology is utilized to power the career discovery and "virtual tutor" features, where a conversational assistant provides meaningful answers based on reliable and trusted data.
• Adaptive Learning Systems: These systems adjust the difficulty level and format of the content in real-time, based on the user's performance and interaction patterns, to suit their unique learning needs.
• Accessibility Features: The platform is WCAG AAA compliant, the highest level of accessibility as laid down by W3C.
• Analytics and Data Tracking: To support rehabilitation counselors and ensure effective learning outcomes, our platform employs data analytics to monitor user progress and engagement, offering insights that help tailor the educational experience further.
Incskill’s integrated approach not only aids in the professional development of people with disabilities but also ensures that they can find and retain meaningful employment, thereby promoting inclusivity and diversity in the workforce. This end-to-end solution is not just about employment but about creating a sustainable ecosystem that supports continuous learning and career development for people with disabilities.
Incskill is specifically designed to serve people with disabilities, a demographic that has long faced systemic barriers in employment and education. This group is significantly underserved in terms of vocational training and career opportunities, often relegated to low-wage jobs or entirely excluded from the workforce. The challenges they face include a lack of accessible training materials, low societal expectations, and limited employment opportunities that genuinely accommodate their disabilities.
Our target population includes individuals with both visible and invisible disabilities, particularly focusing on print disabilities. In particular, the following are the key challenges that our users face.
• Limited Access to Relevant Training: Traditional vocational training programs frequently do not cater to the specific needs of people with disabilities, offering limited scope and not accounting for the diverse abilities of this group.
• Employment Opportunities: Even when training is available, employment opportunities are often restricted to certain low-skill, entry-level jobs, which do not offer substantial growth or fulfillment.
• Technological Barriers: Many educational platforms and job application processes are not designed with accessibility in mind, making it difficult for individuals with various disabilities to even access necessary resources.
How we help?
• Career Discovery Tailored to Disabilities: By showcasing real-life success stories of individuals with disabilities in various professions, Incskill inspires and informs users about the breadth of possibilities available to them. This helps break the cycle of low expectations and opens up new aspirations and goals. Additionally, the recommendation engine also helps identify transferable skills that they could leverage.
• Accessible Upskilling Courses: Our courses are specifically designed by and for people with disabilities, ensuring that the curriculum and delivery methods are accessible. The "inclusive tutor" powered by generative AI and grounded in a lot of disability data further helps to provide a personalized learning experience.
• Inclusive Employment Connections: Incskill partners with employers who are committed to inclusive hiring practices. This not only provides more opportunities for our users but also works to broaden the understanding and acceptance of disability diversity in the workforce.
• Support for Vocational Counselors: By enabling vocational counselors to access and monitor their clients' progress on our platform, Incskill facilitates a more informed and supportive counseling process, which is crucial for successful job placement.

Applying to Solve is a strategic step for Incskill to enhance our capacity and expand our impact in addressing the employment challenges faced by people with disabilities. While funding is a component of our needs, our primary interest in Solve revolves around leveraging its network, resources, and expertise to overcome several specific barriers that we currently face.
• Technical Advancement: One of the foremost challenges we face is staying abreast of rapid technological advancements that can make our platform more effective and accessible, especially given the advancements in generative AI. Solve’s access to cutting-edge tech resources and expert guidance can help us integrate the latest innovations in AI and adaptive learning technologies, while still ensuring responsible deployment, ensuring that our solutions remain at the forefront of inclusivity and effectiveness.

Although we have validated some revenue streams, we are looking for guidance to further enhance our business models. Connection with other solvers and alumni, especially in the disability sector, can be particularly helpful.
• Strategic Partnerships and Collaborations: We are eager to establish partnerships that extend beyond financial support, including collaborations with academic institutions, technology companies, and other organizations working within the disability space.
