AlumUnite tackles the pressing issue of education financing and project management, particularly in least-developed countries where quality education is scarce. Unlike traditional methods, our platform establishes structured alumni communities for each school, fostering collaboration and competition. The scale of the problem we're tackling is significant both locally and globally. In many developing communities, educational resources are scarce, infrastructure is inadequate, and access to quality education is a luxury rather than a basic right. According to UNESCO, over 258 million children and youth worldwide are out of school, with sub-Saharan Africa having the highest out-of-school rates. This lack of education perpetuates cycles of poverty, hinders socio-economic development, and limits opportunities for millions of individuals.
Within the communities we target, the impact of this problem is profound. Children are deprived of fundamental education, perpetuating cycles of poverty and hindering their ability to break free from systemic challenges. Families often struggle to afford basic school supplies, let alone tuition fees, exacerbating inequalities and limiting social mobility. Moreover, under-resourced schools face numerous challenges, including overcrowded classrooms, outdated facilities, and a lack of qualified teachers, further compromising the quality of education provided.
Our solution directly addresses these challenges by facilitating fundraising and transparent project execution through gamification and accountability measures. By empowering alumni networks and leveraging technology, AlumUnite aims to transform education financing, uplift communities, and provide equal opportunities for all children, regardless of their background.
In the communities we target, the lack of quality education perpetuates poverty cycles and limits social mobility. AlumUnite addresses these challenges by empowering alumni networks to fund significant educational initiatives such as scholarships and infrastructure improvements. Our platform streamlines project management, ensuring accountability and efficient execution. Through gamified fundraising and transparent project execution, we foster community engagement and trust. AlumUnite aims to provide equal opportunities for all children worldwide, driving positive social change and sustainable development.
The target population for AlumUnite primarily consists of students lacking access to quality education either due to inability to afford tuition into quality schools or inconducive learning environments inaccessible to public schools. AlumUnite seeks to address these needs by leveraging technology to ensure that all children, regardless of their socioeconomic status or circumstances, have the opportunity to learn in conducive educational environments and gain access to essential skills.
AlumUnite's gamified fundraising platform, similar to GoFundMe, for individuals and corporations, empowers alumni networks and the private sector to mobilise resources and support from a global community. This collaborative effort does not only raise funds but also fosters a sense of community and solidarity among alumni, creating a support system for students facing adversity.
Furthermore, AlumUnite's project execution platform, similar to Upwork for school projects, facilitates the implementation of educational initiatives and infrastructure improvements in underserved communities. This ensures that students have access to quality educational facilities, resources, and programs, thereby enhancing their learning experience and academic outcomes.
The AlumUnite team has strong ties to Africa, with most of us having experienced top-notch education in places like the UK, US, and Australia. This firsthand experience drives our passion to improve education financing in Africa. Our team is like a melting pot of skills and connections from around the world, which helps us turn our vision into reality not just in Nigeria, but across the continent.
We don't just work for these communities, we are a part of them. We talk to the people there, understand their needs, and involve them in creating solutions. By listening to their ideas and input, we make sure our projects truly meet their needs. Our team's diversity is our strength. With members from different backgrounds, we understand the nuances of African culture. This helps us build trust and communicate effectively with the communities we serve. We work closely with them, making sure our solutions respect their values and address their challenges.
Leading our team is a group of managers dedicated to making our vision a reality. We're committed to being transparent and accountable every step of the way. Our solution has demonstrated substantial progress and impact within the Nigerian education sector. Over the past 18 months, we have implemented initiatives totaling over $100k in alumni-funded projects, directly influencing education across more than 20 schools. Moreover, our ability to acquire over 5000 users showcases a significant outreach, essential for piloting our community-based monitoring and evaluation model. Importantly, we have successfully validated various new products, including endowment funds, gamified fundraising features, and corporate sponsorships.
AlumUnite aims to solve the social problem of limited impact and engagement of alumni groups and their executives, particularly in Africa. The lack of structure, governance, and funding hinders their ability to make a lasting positive impact on their members and communities. Additionally, corporate organizations that are willing to provide funding face challenges in finding transparent and auditable initiatives to support.
This problem has a significant impact on human capital development, as the limited funding available from the government towards education in Africa is further strained. The lack of effective alumni networks and engagement prevents students and graduates from accessing valuable support, mentorship, career opportunities, and resources necessary for their personal and professional growth.
AlumUnite addresses these challenges by providing a platform that not only facilitates communication and networking among alumni but also offers tools for structuring alumni groups, implementing governance mechanisms, and accessing funding. By creating a transparent and auditable environment, AlumUnite helps corporate organizations identify initiatives that align with their funding objectives, leading to increased support for education and human capital development.
- Business Model (e.g. product-market fit, strategy & development)
- Financial (e.g. accounting practices, pitching to investors)
- Public Relations (e.g. branding/marketing strategy, social and global media)
- Technology (e.g. software or hardware, web development/design)
There is no one doing what AlumUnite is attempting to do. Our unique solution has given us there recognition to help a state government in Nigeria launch their education trust fund and we see this trend continuing across other states and even beyond Nigeria.
What makes us different is how we bring together alumni from different schools. We create online communities where alumni, current students, and stakeholders can connect and work together.
Our platform makes fundraising fun and transparent. We have gamified the process, turning it into a friendly competition among alumni groups. Donors get to see exactly where their money is going and how it's being used, which builds trust and keeps them coming back to support more projects. But our impact goes beyond just raising money. We are redefining the narrative in the education financing world. By showing that this approach works, we are inspiring others to come on board. And by promoting transparency and accountability, we are setting a new standard for how these educational financing projects should be run.
In summary, AlumUnite is not just about giving children and adults access to education, it is about changing communities for the better, one school project at a time. And with our platform, we are making it easier than ever for people to come together and make a real difference.
AlumUnite’s solution, while starting with alumni, is geared towards building a culture of investment into education starting from the individual that benefited from a school to the companies that are already hiring alumni of a school or expect to do so shortly. Leveraging data analytics and insights across multiple schools in different regions, AlumUnite not only helps with fundraising but also in identifying the most impactful initiatives for each school.
AlumUnite’s solution is a proven way to help channel funds into developing countries…learning from remittances and the impact they’ve played over the years. AlumUnite has laid the ground work to give the private sector confidence to participate in helping finance education in the most efficient way possible.
In 3 years, we see AlumUnite becoming a brand synonymous with "hope" for a model that empowers the private sector to transform education in Africa. We are building the "Uber-model" that leverages data, insights, and gamification to educate the next generation of Africa's youths - a key catalyst to awaken the continent.
AlumUnite currently leverages existing technologies for its platform and overlays these technologies with crowd insights from students and alumni across different cohorts in different locations. This insights are further refined using advanced AI & data analytics to help drive wholistic impact towards education.

The solution team comprises four full-time members and three part-time members working towards achieving the transformation goals AlumUnite.
We have dedicated ourselves to our solution's development and implementation since the year 2019. Over this period, we have invested substantial time, effort, and resources into refining our strategies, building partnerships, and executing initiatives aimed at achieving our goals. Our journey since 2019 has been marked by continuous learning, adaptation, and growth as we strive to make meaningful and sustainable impacts on the transformation of AlumUnite.
At AlumUnite, we prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion as core pillars of our organizational culture. With our entire 8-person team deeply rooted in Africa, we recognize the importance of embracing a broad spectrum of perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences. While many of us have benefited from firsthand experiences of attending high-quality education institutions in the West, spanning the United Kingdom, United States, and Australia, we understand that our collective strength lies in the diversity of our team. We actively seek team members from various regions within Africa and the global south, as well as individuals with diverse cultural, educational, and professional backgrounds. This commitment to diversity enriches our team, fosters innovation, and enables us to effectively address complex challenges in education.
Furthermore, we are dedicated to creating an environment where all team members feel valued, respected, and empowered to contribute. We strive to provide equal opportunities for growth and advancement, transparent decision-making processes, and ongoing education and training.
To date, We have validated our model in Nigeria across over a 20 schools in the past 18 months and in so doing:
->Implemented $100k+ of alumni-funded projects impacting education
->Acquired 5000+ users (to pilot our community-based M&E model)
->Validated new products including endowment funds for school & regions, gamified fundraising features, corporate sponsorship features, etc.
In the next 12 months, we aim to scale our alumni-student community project execution and monitoring model beyond Nigeria, acquiring 100k users. We also plan to strengthen our corporate sponsorship model, attracting $100m+ in private sector led donations towards education in the same timeframe. For instance, we see a unique approach where we can help schools acquire matching donations by pooling donations from their alumni.
- Individual consumers or stakeholders (B2C)
AlumUnite makes money from three primary sources:
Donations/Contributions: Fees from donations and contributions made to alumni campaigns (events, projects, and initiatives funded on our platform). Under this source, we will also make money from FX as well. We are currently making money via this category.
Vendors: AlumUnite acts as a platform to deliver projects to the schools on behalf of the alumni groups/schools and will charge a percentage of project cost awarded to our curated vendors and have plans to offer subscriptions to various tiers of vendors.
Others: Premium subscription features for alumni groups, Ads & Data-related packages: This is a revenue source that will kick in the future when we grow our user base. The absence of credible education-related data in Africa is projected to be a lucrative source of income for AlumUnite.
We measure our impact based on the funds allocated for improving education in our target schools and the number of beneficiaries in Africa and emerging markets. In our first year, we executed projects worth $30,000, impacting over 5000 students and graduates, including projects in 5 schools and scholarships for upskilling youths. This year, we are expecting to eclipse $1M in impact based on existing LOIs.
Our ambitious impact targets align with SDG goals 4, 5, 8, and 10 and reflect our commitment to sponsoring human capital development for positive societal impact. See page 10 of the attached pitch deck for more information on our impact objectives.
