We aim to tackle the significant challenge of limited access to quality STEM education, particularly in underserved communities in Africa. Globally, there is a shortage of skilled professionals in STEM fields, hindering economic growth and development. According to UNESCO, only 3% of African students are enrolled in STEM-related degree programs, indicating a clear disparity in access and opportunities. This problem affects millions of young learners who lack the resources and infrastructure needed to develop critical STEM skills. Factors contributing to this issue include inadequate resources, infrastructure, and qualified teachers. STEM education is crucial for addressing societal challenges, driving innovation, and competing in the global economy. By providing affordable and accessible STEM education through hands-on learning experiences, STEMAIDE aims to bridge this gap and empower future generations with the skills they need to succeed in today's world.
The STEMAIDE kit is a comprehensive STEM learning toolkit designed to make learning engaging, accessible, and fun for students. It consists of various electronic components like microcontrollers, sensors, LEDs, motors, and other modules. Students begin by physically assembling these components on a breadboard, learning coding to instruct the microcontroller on how to interact with different components. It comes with a manual, which gives you access to our library of over 200 guided projects. The kit fosters hands-on learning experiences, enabling students to solve real-world problems and explore STEM concepts through practical applications. It leverages open hardware architecture technology to provide a holistic approach to STEM education, integrating disciplines like robotics, electronics, and programming to enhance critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Here is a product video of the STEMAIDE kit in action.
Young Africans between the ages of 7 and 21, which consist of students in primary and secondary schools, particularly those in underserved communities across Africa, These students often lack access to quality STEM education due to limited resources, inadequate infrastructure, and a shortage of qualified teachers. Additionally, there is a disparity in access to technology and hands-on learning experiences, further exacerbating the gap in STEM knowledge and skills. We address these needs by providing an affordable and accessible STEM learning toolkit (the STEMAIDE kit) that offers hands-on experiences, real-world applications, and a curriculum aligned with educational standards. By empowering students with the tools and resources to explore STEM concepts, STEMAIDE seeks to equip them with critical skills for future success in STEM fields and beyond.
We believe we are uniquely positioned to deliver STEMAIDE to our people because we have deep-rooted connections within the communities we aim to serve. Even though we didn't have a smooth transition, we are passionate about empowering Ghanaians through quality and affordable STEM education. This passion didn't begin here; it boils down to our 10 years of experience running STEM training programs across the country, visiting 10 regions of Ghana, and our deep recognition of the educational gaps prevalent in STEM education wherever we visit, particularly in regions with limited resources and infrastructure. With our strong passion for making a positive impact on society by empowering learners with essential STEM skills, we recognize the innovative opportunity to develop a unique product, which is the STEMAIDE kit, to address these challenges effectively, drawing from personal experiences or encounters that underscored the importance of improving STEM education. Our approach to designing and implementing STEMAIDE is deeply informed by community input, ideas, and agendas. We regularly engage with local stakeholders, including teachers, parents, and students, to co-create and refine our solution. This participatory approach ensures that STEMAIDE is tailored to the specific needs and contexts of the communities we serve, making it more relevant, effective, and sustainable in addressing their challenges.

We selected pilot because we have been in operation in eighteen months. During the eighteen months of operations, we have sold over 1000 of the STEMAIDE kits and impacted over 5000 learners, including students, teachers, and educators. We have also made partnerships with local and international educational institutions and development partners, such as GI-KACE, ITU, and UNICEF, among others.
We are applying to Solve because we believe in its mission, and we see this as a huge opportunity to be part of the community of innovators, problem solvers, and experts. We seek Solve's assistance in overcoming various barriers that hinder our progress to empower the young generation and also impact the lives of the less privileged in underserved communities. We believe in equal opportunities for all. We require support to scale our operations and reach more underserved communities effectively. We also aim to enhance our solution's technological infrastructure to improve accessibility and usability. We seek guidance on navigating regulatory frameworks and intellectual property rights to ensure the protection and sustainability of our solution. We aim to foster inclusivity and diversity within our team and community, and Solve's network can provide valuable insights and connections in this regard. Finally, we require strategic partnerships and resources to expand our reach and impact.

Our approach to the problem of inadequate STEM resources is to provide an end-to-end, comprehensive solution that integrates hands-on learning experiences, real-world applications, and a curriculum aligned with educational standards. Our STEMAIDE kit is affordable; it doesn't require internet access, a computer lab, or an instructor. It's a portable STEM toolkit in the shape of a lunch box that is easily accessible anywhere you go. Our unique approach catalyzes broader positive impacts by fostering creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills among learners, thereby empowering them to become future innovators and leaders in STEM fields. Our emphasis on affordability and accessibility opens up opportunities for underserved communities to access quality STEM education, thus democratizing learning and leveling the playing field. This innovative approach has the potential to change the market landscape by setting a new standard for STEM education and inspiring similar initiatives to emerge, ultimately leading to a more skilled and diverse workforce capable of addressing complex global challenges.
The logical framework involves providing the STEMAIDE kit to schools, training educators, and implementing the curriculum. Immediate outputs include increased access to STEM learning tools and improved teacher capacity. Over the long term, we anticipate outcomes such as improved academic performance, increased interest in STEM fields, and enhanced readiness for future careers. This theory of change is supported by research on the effectiveness of hands-on learning, feedback from educators and students, and evidence of improved learning outcomes in schools where STEMAIDE is implemented.
According to the WEF, there are 4 C skills (creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication) that are essential for the young generation in order for them to be relevant in today's world. We believe STEMAIDE is essential in acquiring these skills as they use and engage in their usage. Our impact goals are focused on transforming STEM education outcomes among young learners. Our primary impact goal is to increase students' proficiency and interest in STEM subjects, leading to improved academic performance and enhanced readiness for future careers in STEM fields. We measure progress towards this goal through various indicators, including 1. tracking changes in students' academic performance in STEM subjects, such as math and science scores on standardized tests. 2. Monitoring student engagement levels during STEMAIDE sessions, including participation rates and feedback on the learning experience. 3. Surveying students to assess their interest in pursuing STEM-related careers and tracking changes in career aspirations over time. 4. Evaluating improvements in teacher capacity and confidence in delivering STEM education through pre- and post-training assessments. 5. Tracking the number of schools and students reached by the STEMAIDE program to ensure broad access and equitable distribution of resources
Our core technology revolves around the Ardurino's Open Hardware architechure, innovative learning tools and software (Ardurino IDE) and resources (which is our curefully curated project based manuals) designed to enhance STEM education. The STEMAIDE kit comprises various components like microcontrollers, sensors, LEDs, motors, and other electronic modules, which are integrated into hands-on learning experiences for students. The technology allows learners to engage in practical activities, such as coding and assembling electronic circuits, to solve real-world problems and explore STEM concepts. We also leverage digital platforms like YouTube (where we upload our practical guided videos on kit usage) and online resources to support educators in delivering interactive lessons and monitoring student progress.
