At PazaTech, our mission is to address the specific challenge of educational inequity in underserved communities by providing accessible, affordable, and engaging educational technology tools. We recognize that traditional classrooms in these communities often lack resources and infrastructure to support effective learning experiences. This problem is particularly acute within the Grades 1-6 space, where foundational skills are developed and gaps in access can have long-term consequences. In Kenya alone, millions of children face barriers to quality education due to factors such as limited access to resources, overcrowded classrooms, and outdated teaching methods.
Globally, the scale of the problem is staggering, with millions of children worldwide lacking access to quality education. According to UNESCO, approximately 258 million children and youth are out of school, and many of those who are enrolled do not receive a quality education. This disparity disproportionately affects children in underserved communities, perpetuating cycles of poverty and inequality.
Factors contributing to this problem include insufficient funding for education, inadequate infrastructure, and a lack of trained teachers. Additionally, socio-economic disparities and geographic isolation further exacerbate the challenge of accessing quality education.
Our solution at PazaTech addresses these factors by leveraging technology to create engaging learning experiences that are accessible and affordable. By providing educational tools tailored to the needs of underserved communities, we aim to improve learning outcomes and empower young learners to compete on a global scale. Through our efforts, we align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically targeting goals related to poverty alleviation, reducing inequality, and providing quality education for all.

Our solution addresses two key objectives: empowering teachers and enhancing literacy and numeracy skills in young learners.
Firstly, we empower teachers by providing them with technology and software curriculum that they can integrate into their classrooms. This empowers teachers to become facilitators of technology-enabled learning, enhancing their effectiveness in delivering lessons and engaging students.
Secondly, we focus on enhancing literacy and numeracy skills, which are fundamental for young learners. Our solution utilizes interactive digital tools and engaging content to make learning more enjoyable and effective. By leveraging technology, we create dynamic learning experiences that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities.
To achieve these solutions, we prioritize mitigating the infrastructure deficit and bridging the digital divide. This involves providing access to necessary technology and connectivity, as well as training and support for teachers to effectively integrate technology into their teaching practices.
By addressing these two objectives and leveraging technology, we aim to create a more inclusive and effective learning environment for students, ultimately improving educational outcomes.
We have established strategic partnerships with GraphoGame and the Haskins Laboratory for Literacy and Numeracy to enhance the effectiveness of our solution. Together, we are developing a gamified curriculum designed to engage young learners in basic reading and mathematics skills. This curriculum is agnostic, meaning it can be adapted to various educational frameworks, while still aligning with the Competency Based Curriculum and KICD requirements in Kenya. By leveraging these partnerships and expertise, we ensure that our solution is tailored to the specific needs of teachers and students, providing an effective and engaging learning experience in the classroom.
PazaTech is dedicated to serving emerging and underserved communities, with an initial focus on elementary schools in rural and peri-urban areas of Kenya. Our target population includes Grade 1-6 learners who currently face barriers to quality education due to factors such as limited resources, outdated teaching methods, and lack of access to technology. These young learners are often underserved, which can impact their academic achievement and future opportunities.
By providing digital products and innovative educational tools, PazaTech aims to empower these learners to excel academically and develop essential skills for success in the 21st century. Our solution will directly impact their lives by enhancing their learning experiences, improving literacy and numeracy skills, and fostering a love for learning. Additionally, by equipping these learners with technology-enabled education, they will be better prepared to compete globally with their peers and access opportunities for higher education and career advancement in the future.
Our pilot program, which will be implemented in partnership with a flagship school in Githunguri, will serve as a model for how our solution can be effectively implemented and scaled to benefit more communities across Kenya and beyond. Through this initiative, we aim to make a meaningful and lasting impact on the lives of young learners, ensuring that they have the tools and opportunities they need to succeed in school and beyond.

- Prototype
At PazaTech, we are currently in the Prototype stage of development. This stage was selected because we have created an initial working version of our educational technology solution and are in the process of gathering feedback and testing it with users through a pilot program. As a non-profit organization, we have raised little investment capital at this stage, and that propelled me and my team to travel and do customer discovery for one month in Kenya, and our solution is still undergoing testing before transitioning to consistent availability.
So far, we have developed a prototype of our gamified educational technology platform, designed to enhance literacy and numeracy skills for Grade 1-6 learners in underserved communities. The platform integrates interactive digital tools and engaging content aligned with the Competency Based Curriculum and KICD requirements in Kenya. We have also established partnerships with GraphoGame and the Haskins Laboratory for Literacy and Numeracy to leverage their expertise and resources in developing our solution.
Our pilot program will be underway later this year at our flagship school in Githunguri, where we will be testing the effectiveness of our prototype with a select group of students and teachers. Through this pilot, we aim to gather feedback on usability, engagement, and learning outcomes to inform further iterations of our solution.
At this stage, we have served zero customers or direct beneficiaries, as our solution is still in the testing phase. However, our focus has been on building and refining our prototype to ensure that it effectively meets the needs of our target population. Through ongoing testing and iteration based on user feedback, we are laying the groundwork for future scalability and impact.
We are reaching out to Solve because we deeply believe in the transformative power of collaboration and collective action in tackling global challenges. Our journey with PazaTech began three years ago, driven by a passion for providing accessible and innovative educational solutions to underserved communities. Along the way, I've grappled with questions about sustainability and relevance, particularly in navigating the complex landscape of social entrepreneurship and nonprofit ventures.
For me, this journey has been about more than just building a business—it's been about finding a way to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most. The biggest hurdle I've faced is understanding how to create a sustainable business model while ensuring that our solutions remain accessible to those who may not have the means to pay for them. It's a constant balancing act between impact and sustainability, and I've often found myself seeking guidance and support in navigating this delicate balance.
That's why I'm turning to Solve. I see Solve as a platform for a community of like-minded individuals who share a common goal: to create positive change in the world. I'm eager to learn from others who have walked this path before me, to exchange ideas and experiences, and to gain the knowledge and support needed to take PazaTech from concept to scale.
For me, community is at the heart of why I'm applying to Solve. I believe that by coming together, we can achieve far more than we ever could alone. Also, the pandemic exacerbated the need to bridge the digital divide and even match stronger on the theme of 'Leaving no child behind', regardless of the background the children hail from.

In the spring of 2021, I conceived the idea for PazaTech and took the plunge into my first-ever pitch competition through Innovation Quest, a program fostering entrepreneurship among UConn students. Making it to the top 18 finalists was a significant achievement. This experience not only provided invaluable guidance on refining my idea but also equipped me with the tools and knowledge to evolve into a purpose-driven entrepreneur focused on making a meaningful impact. However, the challenge has been that most entrepreneurial incubators at UConn are mostly focused on scaling for-profit product companies and I have struggled with the social entrepreneurship approach.
PazaTech does have a small team but we do ensure diversity, minimize barriers to opportunity, and foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all team members at PazaTech. Our leadership team, comprising Nicole as Founder, Faith as Co-founder, and Collins as Product Manager, reflects our commitment to diversity and inclusion. With two female founders and a male product manager, all hailing from Kenya, we bring diverse perspectives, experiences, and cultural backgrounds to the table.
Despite Nicole currently pursuing her degree in the US, her remote involvement ensures that our team remains connected and inclusive. We actively strive to create a workplace culture that values and respects every individual, regardless of their background or identity. Our team's goals for diversity, equity, and inclusion include fostering a sense of belonging, providing equal opportunities for growth and advancement, and amplifying underrepresented voices within our organization.
At PazaTech, our business model is centered around providing accessible and innovative educational solutions to underserved communities, with a focus on foundational grants and donations to sustain our operations. Our key customers and beneficiaries are elementary schools in rural and peri-urban areas, particularly in Kenya, where access to quality education is limited.
We offer a range of digital products and services designed to enhance literacy and numeracy skills among young learners in grades 1-6. These include interactive educational games, gamified curriculum materials, and teacher training resources. Our solutions are tailored to align with local curriculum requirements and educational standards, ensuring relevance and effectiveness in the classroom.
We provide these products and services through partnerships with schools and educational institutions, as well as through direct engagement with teachers and students. Our goal is to empower teachers with the tools and resources they need to deliver high-quality education, while also engaging students in an interactive and engaging learning experience.
Our customers and beneficiaries value our products and services because they address critical gaps in the education system, helping to improve learning outcomes and prepare students for future success. By leveraging technology and innovative teaching methods, we enable schools to overcome resource constraints and provide an enriching educational experience for all students.
While our revenue model is currently reliant on foundational grants and donations, we are exploring opportunities to generate revenue through additional channels in the future, such as fee-based services for schools and districts, partnerships with government agencies, and corporate sponsorships. However, our primary focus remains on maximizing our impact and ensuring that our educational solutions reach those who need them most.
- Individual consumers or stakeholders (B2C)
Our plan for achieving financial sustainability at PazaTech involves a multi-faceted approach that combines various revenue streams to cover our operational expenses and support our ongoing impact initiatives. While our current revenue primarily stems from foundational grants and donations, we are strategically diversifying our funding sources to ensure long-term viability and scalability.
One key aspect of our sustainability plan is to explore opportunities for earned revenue through the sale of products and services. We aim to develop fee-based offerings, such as premium educational resources, teacher training programs, and customized curriculum materials, which can generate revenue while providing added value to our partner schools and educational institutions. Additionally, we are exploring partnerships with government agencies and NGOs to secure service contracts for the implementation of our educational solutions in public schools and underserved communities.
Furthermore, we recognize the potential for corporate sponsorships and strategic partnerships to contribute to our financial sustainability. By collaborating with businesses and organizations aligned with our mission and values, we can secure sponsorships, grants, and in-kind support to fund specific projects, initiatives, and operational expenses.
In the long term, our revenue streams are expected to cover our expected expenses, including product development, distribution, marketing, and overhead costs. By leveraging a combination of sustained donations, grants, earned revenue, service contracts, and strategic partnerships, we aim to achieve financial self-sufficiency while maximizing our impact on education in underserved communities.
To date, we have successfully secured one foundational grant and donation to support our customer discovery, research initiatives, and operational expenses. These grant included funding from the UConn Werth Institute and the UConn Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, which have enabled us to conduct impact assessments, and expand our reach to new communities in Kenya.
