For close to a decade, a sociopolitical crisis in the English-speaking regions of Cameroon has evolved into an educational crisis that has disrupted the education of over 1.8 million and displaced close to a million persons. While many have found refuge in safer regions like the Centre, Littoral, and West regions, limited access to learning resources still contributes to a low enrollment rate and educational performance among these Internally Displaced Students. Therefore, there is a dire need for access to learning resources that will enable these students to complete their education successfully and equip them to thrive in their communities and the complex world.
Edufinity is an educational platform that provides access to virtual learning resources and personal assistance curated to meet the academic needs of Internally Displaced Persons. It connects users to a plethora of visual lessons that simplify complex concepts to ease understanding, evaluation questions to test understanding, and standby tutorship support for complementary assistance.
Edufinity's target population is the internally displaced in Cameroon, who seek to continue their studies in safer regions but lack learning resources to do so. Those looking to write their official examinations in the coming years from Form 3 to UpperSixth, in particular, are the focus of attention. The solution will address their needs by providing a one-stop platform for learning, testing their knowledge, and personal tutorship and mentorship that will equip them for success in their final examinations.
My team and I are well-positioned to design and deliver this solution to the target population. As a team lead, besides living with internally displaced persons who sought refuge during the heat of the crisis to continue their studies, I have carried out research and remain in contact with several stakeholders in the educational sector concerned with the situation. The design and implementation of Edufinity were thus guided by their inputs, particularly the expressed concerns of the internally displaced.
- Ensure that all children are learning in good educational environments, particularly those affected by poverty or displacement.
- 4. Quality Education
- Prototype
So far, I have built a no-code technology platform as a prototype for testing by target users and stakeholders who have given their feedback and approval. There were 15 participants, and the test was carried out to analyze the usefulness, usability, desirability, and accessibility of the platform. Each case yielded positive overall feedback from the three stakeholders, including the internally displaced students, teachers, and parents.
