Our common problem is SDG 4: Quality Education, as a fundamental human right, it is essential to achieving sustainable development goals in Nigeria and around the world. According to UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) which estimated for the 2018 school year, around 258 million children and youth are out of school globally.  In Nigeria, where primary education is statutorily free and compulsory, around 10.5 million children aged 5-14 are not enrolled. Nigeria has the highest percentage of out-of-school children in Sub-Saharan Africa. In Nigeria, 50% of school-age children are unable to read or write. We posed to strengthen an inclusive education system in the country through reaching out to the orphanages and underprivileged youths by offering to teach them digital skills for free to aid in their personal, professional and societal development. 

In Nigeria, many orphanages face the challenge of preparing their residents for a rapidly digitizing world, leaving vulnerable youth at a disadvantage. In the aftermath of the Nigeria Insurgency Crisis in the North, East and South, a beacon of hope emerges in the form of a non-governmental organization (NGO). My proposed project “OrphanHub” aims to bridge this digital divide by implementing an inclusive educational model and comprehensive digital skills training program tailored to the specific needs of orphanage residents. Through a combination of interactive workshops, access to technology, and mentorship, I will seek to empower these children and young adults with the essential digital competencies necessary for their future success and integration into the modern workforce.

OrphanHub was born out of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Community Development Service Project at the prestigious Benin City, Edo State Nigeria. 

OrphanHub is an innovative non-profit organization dedicated to helping orphanages and underprivileged youths with essential digital skills.

Several communities in Nigeria would greatly benefit from the implementation of a program focused on teaching digital skills to orphanages and underprivileged adults. These include:

1. Orphanage Communities: Orphanages across the country would directly benefit from this initiative, as it would provide their residents with essential digital skills, enhancing their educational and vocational prospects, and ultimately empowering them to become active participants in the digital economy.
2. Local Business Communities: By equipping orphanage residents with digital skills, local businesses can potentially benefit from a pool of skilled individuals who can contribute to their workforce, particularly in areas related to technology, graphic design, and digital marketing Etc.
3. Educational Communities: Schools and educational institutions in the society of the participating orphanages would benefit indirectly as the program helps create a more digitally competent population, thereby contributing to the overall educational advancement and digital literacy levels within the broader community.
4. Tech Industry Communities: The tech industry in Nigeria would also stand to gain from the increased pool of digitally skilled individuals entering the workforce. By nurturing talent and fostering a culture of innovation, the program can contribute to the growth and development of the local technology sector.
5. Local Government Communities: Local government bodies could benefit from a more digitally skilled population as it can foster technological advancement within the community, promoting digital inclusion and potentially leading to the development of a more robust and sustainable local economy.

By empowering the orphanages with digital skills, the program can have a cascading effect, positively impacting various sectors and communities throughout Nigeria, ultimately contributing to the country's overall social and economic development.

At the successful implementation of this project, we anticipate a transformative impact on the lives of orphanage residents, equipping them with vital digital skills that open doors to new educational and employment opportunities and providing free laptops for the best emerging 100 orphanages children and underprivileged youths. We envision a generation of digitally empowered individuals poised to thrive in the modern digital landscape, contributing meaningfully to Nigeria's socioeconomic development and fostering a brighter future for themselves and their communities.

The Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Local Government, Community and Chieftaincy Affairs, Edo State Government supported our project with all the names, datas and vital information of all orphanage homes in the state and other vulnerable communities. Then we can connect with this communities through the ministry and be able to achieve our goals effectively. And also have the opportunity to impact the lives of this community.

With the help of local news outlets and local journalists, our community begins to resonate, sparking a nationwide reaction about the need for stronger digital protection laws and digital enablement of access to the less privileged (orphanages).

The mission of this Programme is to create a world where every orphanage children, students , household, or community group is equipped with the knowledge, values, and skills necessary for effectively responding to the most significant  challenges of this century and shaping a sustainable and prosperous world.

Despite facing financial pushback and encountering setbacks along the way, our team members persist, fueled by the belief that a free and open digital landscape is crucial for everyone irrespective of your background for the good progress and development of our communities. Through this unwavering determination and resilience, we’re able to inspire multitudes of orphans to learn and master the basics to complexity of this digital skills, encryption protection and digital rights, leaving an indelible mark on the trajectory of Nigeria's technological evolution. 

Our journey was fraught with challenges; faced with lack of financial support from authorities and resistance from Government wary of technological advancements. Undeterred, our team launched a grassroots campaign, hosting workshops and seminars to educate this young orphanages about their digital rights, training on digital skills, encryption protection and the potential risks of unchecked surveillance. 

Digital Literacy Upliftment: Provide orphanages and underprivileged youth with essential digital skills, laying the groundwork for a better future in the fast changing digital landscape.

Global Connectivity: Remove barriers by enabling people to connect globally, improve their communication skills, and extend their perspectives through exposure to diverse online communities.

Career Pathway Creation: Create pathways to sustainable lifestyles by developing a varied skill set that allows participants to explore possibilities in industries such as technology, digital marketing, and remote work.

Confidence and Self-Efficacy: Increase confidence and self-efficacy by giving participants a sense of mastery over digital technologies, allowing them to traverse the digital environment with assurance and survival. 

Community Empowerment: Promote positive change in communities as empowered individuals become agents of change for fostering those around them.

Our solution makes use of an interactive multimedia and state-of-the-art artificial intelligence-driven learning management platform that is easy to use and adaptable. This dynamic platform ensures an inclusive and customized learning experience by customizing information to fit each learner's unique learning style. Our platform goes beyond conventional learning bounds with its realistic case studies, collaborative projects, and immersive simulations. It enables seamless learning anytime, anyplace because it is cloud-based and accessible on multiple devices. It also supports robust analytics which monitor users progress and offer useful insights for ongoing development. Our approach guarantees that every learner, regardless of background, acquires the digital skills necessary for a prosperous future by embracing technology as an enabler.

We plan to offer essential digital skills services to orphanages and underprivileged youths with a long-term empowerment and self-sufficiency among orphanages and underprivileged youths, leading to sustainable socio-economic development and a brighter future for generations to come.

Budget and Funding:

The project requires a total budget of $20,000 over a year period, with the majority allocated to training materials, technology infrastructure, and mentorship programs. Other Funding sources will be sought through corporate sponsorships, charitable foundations, and government grants dedicated to supporting educational initiatives for underprivileged communities.
