Helping poor Children to go to School and Improving the Lives of poor Farmers (HCS&ILF)
- Cambodia
- Nonprofit
Many children aged 6 to 16 in Phnom Kravanh and Veal Veng districts of Pursat province do not have the opportunity to go to school because their parents are poor.
Poverty motivates parents introduce children to work to earn additional income to support the family.
They need child labor to help them carry out other tasks such as herding cows etc.
In general, farmers lack irrigation water, planting techniques, money to finance health care, lack capital to invest in planting, etc., and so on. These deficiencies constitute a major challenge for community development and poverty reduction.
This caused people to despair of cultivating and selling agricultural land and to emigrate illegally to work in neighboring countries. They risk being arrested and tortured in neighboring countries.
LFO plans to take the children to boarding schools to receive national education, but the children's parents do not allow any organization or institution to receive their children for education or training. They need child labor to help them carry out other tasks such as herding cows etc.
Faced with this problem, we told them that if they let the children go to school, they would get a job with a salary of $150 per month. Our LFO plan is to take 200 children, so we have to accept the parents of these 200 children. Our LFO Organization will use them as workers in the three agricultural business projects: 1/ Vegetable garden project 2/ Mushroom planting 3/ Compost production project.
In addition, we provide training programs to these 200 children's parents and other 100 poor farmers on various skills in agriculture, such as technical planting of melons and grafting of fruit trees such as cocoa, oranges, Keochen mango trees and other fruit trees.
The 200 children's parents and other 100 poor farmers and adolescents in the school boarding could also be trained in all kinds of vegetable techniques planting through our three agricultural projects in which include 1/ Vegetable garden project 2/ Mushroom planting 3/ Compost production project.
LFO Organization will be involved seriously in Water source & Irrigation network through the next Climate Challenge Grant 2025.
Many children aged 6 to 16 in Phnom Kravanh district with a population of 50,763 and 27,484 in Veal Veaeng district, Pursat province do not have access to school because their parents are poor.
Our LFO project collects 200 children, so we also have to accept the parents of these 200 children. We will use them as workers in three agricultural projects: 1/vegetable garden project 2/mushroom growing project 3/compost production project.
These three agricultural projects will also allow us to offer professional training to all adolescents in the boarding school.
Common problems in Cambodia Poor children living in isolated rural areas.
Parents of children who are part of the organization's staff will also have the opportunity to receive various training related to improving their family life and community development.
All children will receive special education, especially in the area of rehabilitation, because they are not as qualified as ordinary children attending public schools.
The 200 children will be formed to follow national education program, and some will be oriented in vocational training to find future employment.
Our team consists of Mr. Sok Kosal, Mr. Pit Khonhel, Mrs. Sreyhon Moeun, etc. Worked for many years with children and poor farmers through various NGOs, resulting in the vision of improving the well-being of children and improving the lives of poor farmers.
The project to help poor children go to school and the economic plan to improve the living standards of poor farmers have been welcomed by relevant authorities and institutions at all levels. The parents of the 100 children receive a stipend and have been asked to undergo training in cultivation techniques (while working) to become proficient in various areas of agriculture.
HCS&ILF (Help poor Children to go to School & Improving the Lives of poor Farmers) project has the following characteristics:
Children can escape parental pressure and go to school.
Parents who agree to let their children go to school receive jobs and training related to improving the family economy and participating in community development programs.
While working, parents receive vegetable growing techniques and other training in agriculture.
The budget provided to parents is useful and also makes the three planting projects to generate income.
Parents of children who are employed by LFO will also have the opportunity to receive various training related to improving family life and community development to reduce poverty.
Vocational training for employment in agriculture will be provided to all adolescents.

We often work with children in the pagoda and with people who allow
us to organize the evening and then give lessons to the children.
Our Team has to collect the child from their home and also send them home at the end of the course around 8 p.m.
In the evening, we have a small singing and dancing activity as well as a one-hour class for 6 to 10 year olds, 11 to 13 year olds and 14 to 16 year olds.
We have about 40 boys and girls who are being trained by LFO. The parents of the 40 children are also receiving training on grafting and feeding fruit trees.
LFO launched a project to help poor children go to school thanks to a small donation from the founding members. This budget also does not allow the activities of the LFO to continue for long.
In the future, we look forward to working with MIT Solve to develop the HCS&ILF project for sustainable community development.
The next step is to develop the source of water and network irrigation.
Lack of irrigation water, lack of cultivation techniques, lack of capital to pay for agricultural crops, etc. push people to desperately cultivate and sell agricultural land and migrate to work illegally in neighboring countries. They risk being arrested and tortured in neighboring countries.
LFO will develop as well the business projects by following the Economic Prosperity guided by MIT Solve.
- Business Model (e.g. product-market fit, strategy & development)
- Financial (e.g. accounting practices, pitching to investors)
- Legal or Regulatory Matters
- Product / Service Distribution (e.g. delivery, logistics, expanding client base)
Other companies use workers' salaries to run their businesses.
LFO uses workers' salaries not only to run projects but also to encourage them to send their children to school and provide also them with agricultural skills.
Through the workforce, the parents of the poor children also enable LFO's various agricultural projects to function.
Parents who force their children to work as cowboys etc which earns them about $30 a month.
When they agree to allow their children to go to school at the request of LFO, the parents receive $ 150 per month. See more than $ 30. So they are happy and collaborate on other development plans with LFO.
All 200 children have no basis for admission to general education under the National Education Program.
Our first goal by the end of the sixth month is that 10% of the 200 children will be able to attend public schools through the national education program.
Our second goal by the end of the sixth month is that 10% of the 200 children will have access to Vocational Training in agriculture.
Our third goal by the end of the twelfth month is that 20% of the 200 children will be able to attend public schools through the national education program.
Our fourth goal by the end of the 12th month is that 20% of the 200 children will have access to Vocational Training in agriculture.
Our fifth goal by the end of the 18th month is that 40% of the 200 children will be able to attend public schools through the national education program.
Our six goals by the end of the 18th month will be that 30% of the 200 children will have access to Vocational Training in agriculture.
Our seventh goal by the end of the 24th month is that 50% of the 200 children will be able to attend public schools under the national education program.
Our eight goals by the end of the 24th month will be that 40% of the 200 children will have access to Vocational Training in agriculture.
Our ninth goal is to help the parents of the 200 children have a vegetable garden around the house, as well as a well for irrigation by the end of the 15th month.
Our tenth goal is to help the other 100 poor farmers (already trained in agriculture) have a vegetable garden around their house, as well as a well for irrigation.
Our eleventh objective is to recruit in the near future farmers already trained in agriculture as employees of our major agricultural economic projects with reasonable salaries.
Our twelfth goal is to set up an economic center focusing on agriculture not far from the Thai border to filter out people suffering from a lack of water for farming and illegal migration to Thailand.
The core techniques can be divided as follows:
1. Use some money given to parents to get their children to school.
2. Use the same amount of money on labor to run a project to generate income.
3-Seize this opportunity to teach agricultural skills to poor farmers.
4-Income generated will be used for community development to reduce poverty, such as helping to have a vegetable garden around the house and irrigation wells.

The team has been working on our solutions for about six months. The gathering of children takes place in the pagodas, premises reserved for the public where there are possible places to serve as classrooms.
Sometimes our team also works with poor children in people's homes who allow us to meet these children.
The get-togethers start with a fun get-together with a few drinks, and there are also literacy and numeracy classes divided into groups.
Children express their joy as they hold pens and books and shout thank you to the team for taking care of them.
Our team works with poor children as if they were one family. We are proud of the general training activities we see when children enjoy the pen and books and the attention of our team.
We provide funding to provide employment to people in the community. Provide agricultural skills to poor farmers. Provide vegetable gardens around the house to poor farmers. We train boys and girls, children of poor farmers, to be knowledgeable, to compete with children in general, and to become the backbone of the nation, contributing to the international community in the future development of the world economy.
We chat to give advice to improve daily life. We talk about the importance of community development for poor farmers.
- Individual consumers or stakeholders (B2C)
Until now, the LFO has not received any funding from any institution. All expenses related to activities to manage the organization are paid by the founding members of the organization.
In the future, our Business to generate income projects, such as vegetable growing, mushroom growing, and composting, all of which could bring in a decent income and contribute to the organization's costs.
During these first 15 months, we also trained 300 farmers in various fields of agriculture. These 300 professional farmers can become LFO professional staff in the large-scale agriculture Business project in the near future.
Our goal in the future is also to set up an economic center focusing on agriculture not far from the Thai border to filter out people suffering from a lack of water for farming and illegal migration to Thailand.
