Developing futures social program
- Honduras
- Hybrid of for-profit and nonprofit
World Connect Academy has created a social program called Developing Futures that aims to bridge this gap by providing funding for quality education in technology and English.
This program tackles the pressing social issue of educational inequality, particularly focusing on providing quality education in technology and English for minority groups. This program is crucial in addressing the significant gap in educational opportunities that exist within the country and globally, impacting over 1.7 million children from public schools in Honduras alone.
By doing so, the program not only addresses the immediate need for access to education but also helps to create more equitable opportunities for these groups. By providing education in these key areas, the program empowers individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in today's global economy.
Educational inequality is a complex and multifaceted problem that stems from various factors such as limited resources, unequal distribution of educational opportunities, and societal barriers. In Honduras, these issues are particularly pronounced, with minority groups often facing the brunt of the educational gap. Access to quality education in technology and English is especially limited for these groups, hindering their ability to compete in an increasingly digital and interconnected world.
On a global scale, the issue of educational inequality is pervasive, with millions of individuals facing barriers to accessing quality education. The impact of this inequality is far-reaching, affecting not only individuals but also communities and societies as a whole. Addressing this issue requires a concerted effort to provide equal access to quality education for all, regardless of background or circumstance.
The "Developing Futures" program serves as a model for how organizations can effectively address educational inequality. By focusing on providing quality education in technology and English, the program not only helps individuals acquire valuable skills but also empowers them to break the cycle of poverty and create a better future for themselves and their communities.
The "Developing Futures" program by World Connect Academy is a solution that provides quality education in technology and English to minority groups in Honduras. It works by funding educational programs that teach these subjects, helping students develop skills that are valuable in today's digital world.
Users/students who can afford to pay for these resources will do so, gaining access to high-quality educational content then a portion of the fees paid by these users will then be used to fund scholarships for individuals from underrepresented groups, such as children from public schools in Honduras. This model creates a sustainable and impactful way to address educational inequality, ensuring that those who benefit from education also contribute to the education of others.
To expand the reach and impact of this program, World Connect Academy is currently developing an EdTech platform based on the financial solidarity model. This platform will allow individuals with the means to access education in technology and English while simultaneously supporting the education of others.
The platform will leverage technology to facilitate this process, including online payment systems for course fees, scholarship management systems, and educational content delivery systems. It will provide a seamless and efficient experience for users, making education accessible to all while fostering a sense of community and shared responsibility.
Overall, the platform being developed by World Connect Academy builds upon the success of the "Developing futures" program to create a more inclusive and equitable educational system in Honduras.
The social program is currently operational, while the EdTech platform is in the early stages of development.
The solution being developed by World Connect Academy serves two main groups: individuals with the means to access education in technology and English, and underrepresented groups, such as children from public schools in Honduras, who currently lack access to quality education in these areas.
For individuals with the means, the program provides a convenient and accessible way to access high-quality educational resources in technology and English. By paying for these resources, they not only benefit from the education themselves but also contribute to the education of others, creating a sense of social responsibility and impact.
For underrepresented groups, such as children from public schools in Honduras, the program provides a much-needed opportunity to access education in technology and English. These groups are currently underserved and often lack access to quality educational resources in these key areas. By funding scholarships for these individuals, the program addresses their specific needs and helps to level the playing field, providing them with skills and knowledge that can significantly impact their future prospects.
Overall, the solution being developed by World Connect Academy aims to directly and meaningfully improve the lives of both groups by providing access to education in technology and English.
By doing so, it has the potential to create lasting change, empowering individuals with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in today's digital world.
Our team is uniquely qualified to deliver this solution, drawing on a wealth of experience and expertise in technology and English language education. With over a decade of experience teaching English as a second language, we deeply understand the importance of quality education in today's globalized world. Additionally, our team includes professionals with a master's degree from Spain, providing a diverse range of perspectives and knowledge.
Darwin Buezo, our Team Lead, has further enriched our team's capabilities through his participation in the YLAI program in the United States in 2024 as part of the development of the "Developing Futures" social program. This experience has equipped him with valuable insights into the best practices and innovative approaches in the US education system, which we can integrate into our solution.
Importantly, our team is deeply connected to the communities we serve. We have a profound understanding of the challenges faced by underrepresented groups, including children from public schools in Honduras. Additionally, we have strategic partnerships with:
- National University of Honduras
- Secretary of Education
- US Embassy in Honduras
This partnerships helps us increase our credibility and reach more people from out target communities.
In developing our solution, we prioritize community input, ideas, and agendas. We actively seek feedback from the communities we serve to ensure that our platform meets their specific needs and addresses their unique challenges. This collaborative approach ensures that our solution is effective, sustainable, and culturally sensitive.
- Provide the skills that people need to thrive in both their community and a complex world, including social-emotional competencies, problem-solving, and literacy around new technologies such as AI.
- 4. Quality Education
- 10. Reduced Inequalities
- Pilot
The "Developing Futures" program by World Connect Academy is currently in the Pilot stage because we have launched the solution in one community and are actively iterating on its design and business model based on feedback and data.
So far, we have built and tested the educational programs in technology and English, partnering with schools and educational institutions to offer courses.
We have also implemented the financial solidarity model channeling part of the income from current students to provide scholarships to underrepresented groups, such as children from public schools in Honduras.
We have served a significant number of beneficiaries through this pilot program. This initial phase has allowed us to gather valuable insights and feedback, which we are using to refine and improve our solution as we work towards scaling it further.
Some of our results so far:
- 76 children from Gualberto Barahona school have benefited from our social program.
- 500 students from the National University of Honduras are fully enrolled in English classes by the end of June 2024.
- 150 university teachers are fully enrolled in English classes by the end of September 2024.
- 126 students worldwide are paying for premium services and supporting our social program.
- We are working closely with the Secretary of Education and the US Embassy to add 7,500 children from public schools by the end of the year to start classes next year in 2025.
We are applying to Solve because we believe in the power of collaboration to address complex challenges. We see Solve as a platform that can help us overcome specific barriers related to scaling our solution.
One key barrier we face is the need for strategic partnerships and connections with organizations and individuals who can support us in expanding our reach and impact. Solve's network of partners and experts can provide valuable insights, resources, and support to help us overcome this barrier.
Additionally, we believe that Solve can help us enhance our solution through access to expertise in areas such as technology, education, and entrepreneurship. By connecting us with mentors, advisors, and potential collaborators, Solve can help us refine our approach and improve the effectiveness of our solution.
Overall, we see Solve as a valuable opportunity to not only receive financial support but also to access a network of experts and resources that can help us take our solution to the next level. We are excited about the possibility of collaborating with Solve and its partners to create a positive impact in our community and beyond.
- Business Model (e.g. product-market fit, strategy & development)
- Financial (e.g. accounting practices, pitching to investors)
- Public Relations (e.g. branding/marketing strategy, social and global media)
- Technology (e.g. software or hardware, web development/design)
Our solution is innovative in several ways:
- Financial Solidarity Model: Our use of the financial solidarity model, where part of the income from paying students is used to fund scholarships for underrepresented groups, is a novel approach to addressing educational inequality. This model not only provides access to education for those who cannot afford it but also fosters a sense of community and shared responsibility.
- Technology Integration: By leveraging technology, such as online platforms and educational tools, we are able to reach a larger audience and provide high-quality education in a cost-effective manner. This approach allows us to scale our impact and reach more individuals in need.
- Community-Centered Design: We prioritize community input and feedback in the design and implementation of our solution. By actively involving the communities we serve, we ensure that our program meets their specific needs and addresses their unique challenges.
- Potential for Broader Impact: Our solution has the potential to catalyze broader positive impacts in the education space. By demonstrating the effectiveness of the financial solidarity model and the use of technology in education, we hope to inspire other organizations to adopt similar approaches and to work with companies to enhance their social responsability commitment. This could lead to a more collaborative and inclusive education sector, ultimately benefiting more individuals and communities.
Overall, our solution has the potential to change the market/landscape by redefining how education is funded and delivered, particularly in underserved communities. By demonstrating the effectiveness of our approach, we aim to inspire others to adopt similar models, leading to a more equitable and accessible education system for all.

We have been working on our solution for 1.5 years, but our institution has been established since 2022.
To ensure diversity, minimize barriers to opportunity, and provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for all team members, we have implemented some key practices:
- Diverse Hiring Practices: We actively recruit candidates from diverse backgrounds and underrepresented groups to ensure our team reflects the diversity of the communities we serve.
- Professional Development Opportunities: We offer professional development opportunities for all staff members to ensure they have the skills and resources needed to succeed in their roles.
- Regular Diversity and Inclusion Training: We provide regular training on diversity and inclusion topics to all staff members to raise awareness and promote a culture of inclusivity.
- Open Communication Channels We have established open communication channels for employees to raise concerns, provide feedback, and suggest ideas for improving diversity and inclusion within the organization.
- Leadership Commitment: Our leadership team is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion at all levels of the organization and leads by example in fostering an inclusive environment.
By implementing these practices, we strive to create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace where all team members feel valued, respected, and supported.
Our business model involves allocating a portion of the income from students who purchase premium packages and exclusive benefits to provide scholarships to underrepresented groups.
These groups may contribute a small amount to help cover some expenses related to the program and to extend support to others.
This financial solidarity model enables us to not only cater to our key customers but also assist those who may lack the financial means to access high-quality education.
By implementing this approach, we aim to cultivate a more inclusive and equitable learning environment for all.
- Individual consumers or stakeholders (B2C)
Our strategy for financial sustainability involves a mix of revenue sources, including grants, donations, and sales of products and services.
We generate revenue by offering premium packages and exclusive benefits to students seeking to improve their technology and English skills, travel abroad, study English in the United States, and pursue degree programs in the United States.
Additionally, a portion of these proceeds will fund scholarships for underrepresented groups, ensuring our financial model remains inclusive.
These groups also contribute a small amount to mitigate expenses and to continue reaching others.
While we are working towards securing our first grant, donations and funding continue to play a crucial role in supporting our initiatives.
