I am solving the specific problem of lack of access to quality healthcare, particularly for underserved populations. Globally, this problem affects millions of people, with low- and middle-income countries bearing the brunt of the burden. For example, according to the World Health Organization, over half the world's population lacks access to essential healthcare services.
There are many factors contributing to this problem, including lack of infrastructure, limited healthcare workers, and inadequate funding. My solution specifically addresses the problem by harnessing the power of AI to improve access to healthcare in underserved communities.
My solution is an AI-driven healthcare platform that leverages advanced technologies such as natural language processing, predictive analytics, and machine learning. It works by allowing patients to interact with AI-powered chatbots or virtual assistants, providing them with personalized health information and advice.
The platform also utilizes remote monitoring tools such as wearable devices to track vital signs, enabling early detection of health issues and proactive intervention. In addition, AI-based algorithms analyze medical data to provide personalized treatment recommendations, leading to more effective and efficient healthcare outcomes.
My solution targets underserved populations in low- and middle-income countries, especially those living in rural areas with limited access to healthcare facilities. These communities often face a variety of challenges, including long travel times to clinics, high costs of healthcare, and a shortage of healthcare workers.
My solution will directly and meaningfully improve the lives of these people by providing them with convenient and affordable access to healthcare services. Patients will be able to consult with AI-powered chatbots or virtual assistants from the comfort of their homes, reducing the need for costly travel.

- Concept
We have already built and tested a prototype of our AI-powered chatbot, which has been used by over 100 patients in rural areas of Nigeria and Ghana. Our initial tests have shown promising results, with patients reporting high levels of satisfaction with the service and improved health outcomes.
We have also conducted focus groups and interviews with community members to gather feedback on the design and functionality of our solution, which we have incorporated into our development process.
We are applying to Solve because we believe that it can provide us with the support we need to overcome several key barriers that we face in scaling our solution.
Financially, network of donors and investors could provide us with the resources we need to scale our solution to more communities. Technically, your partnership could provide us with access to advanced AI research and expertise, which would help us to improve our solution. Legally, partnership with leading law firms could help us navigate the complex regulatory and ethical issues related to AI in healthcare.
- Human Capital (e.g. sourcing talent, board development)
- Legal or Regulatory Matters
- Monitoring & Evaluation (e.g. collecting/using data, measuring impact)
- Technology (e.g. software or hardware, web development/design)
Our solution is innovative in several ways:
1) Co-Design Approach: Unlike other technology solutions, we take a co-design approach, working closely with communities to understand their specific needs and barriers to healthcare access. This enables us to develop solutions that are more culturally and contextually appropriate, resulting in higher adoption rates.
2) AI-powered Healthcare Chatbot: Our AI-powered chatbot is not just a passive information provider, but an interactive health advisor, personalized to the patient's needs and preferences. This can lead to more engaged and effective self-management of health conditions, ultimately improving health outcomes.
3) Scalability: By leveraging AI technology, our solution has the potential to reach large numbers of people at a relatively low cost, making it more scalable than traditional models of healthcare delivery.
4) Market Disruption: By empowering patients to take control of their health and disrupting the traditional doctor-patient relationship, our solution has the potential to shift the healthcare landscape towards a more patient-centered and proactive approach to healthcare delivery.
Our solution works through the following theory of change:
Activities: We deploy our AI-powered chatbot to underserved communities, train local healthcare workers on its use, and partner with local organizations to promote its adoption.
Outputs: We will see increased usage of our chatbot by patients, who will engage in more frequent and informed conversations about their health.
Outcomes: This increased engagement will lead to a more proactive approach to healthcare, with patients being more informed about their health, able to manage their health conditions better, and more likely to seek appropriate medical care when needed.
Our impact goals are:
1) To increase healthcare access by 25% in underserved communities within three years. This will be measured by tracking the number of people using our chatbot and reporting on their access to healthcare services.
2) To reduce the incidence of preventable and manageable health conditions by 10% in underserved communities within five years. This will be measured by tracking the health outcomes of patients using our chatbot and comparing them to baseline data.
3) To increase patient satisfaction with healthcare services by 20% in underserved communities within three years.
The core technology behind our solution is AI, specifically Natural Language Processing (NLP) and machine learning. The chatbot uses these technologies to understand and respond to patient queries in a conversational manner, while also analyzing large amounts of health-related data to provide personalized recommendations and interventions.
Our chatbot is based on a state-of-the-art deep learning model that has been fine-tuned on health-related data sets to ensure that it is providing accurate and evidence-based information.

Our solution team consists of the following:
Full-time Staff: 3 (including the Team Lead)
Part-time Staff: 2
Contractors: 5 (including AI developers and health researchers)
Our team is small but agile and highly dedicated to our mission of improving health equity through AI-powered healthcare solutions. We also leverage a network of advisors and experts in various fields, such as health policy, healthcare technology, and data science, to provide guidance and feedback on our work.
We have been working on our solution for approximately 2 years. The idea for our solution was initially conceived by our Team Lead during a trip to rural Kenya, where she witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by people in accessing quality healthcare.
From there, she began developing the concept with a small team of researchers and AI experts, and we have since piloted our solution in several communities to refine our approach and gather feedback. Despite being a relatively new solution, we are already seeing promising results and are eager to expand our impact to more communities in need.
We believe that a diverse team is essential to our success in developing solutions that truly meet the needs of the communities we serve. To ensure that our team is diverse and inclusive, we have taken several steps:
- Our hiring process prioritizes candidates with diverse backgrounds, including those from underrepresented groups in STEM fields, such as women and people of color.
- We provide unconscious bias training for all team members to promote awareness of potential biases and promote equitable decision-making.
- We offer flexible working arrangements to accommodate the needs of team members, including those with caregiving responsibilities or other commitments.
Our business model is primarily based on a fee-for-service model, where we partner with local healthcare providers, such as community health centers, to integrate our chatbot into their existing services. The providers pay a subscription fee for the chatbot service, which covers the cost of developing and maintaining the chatbot.
We also plan to explore partnerships with donors and foundations to provide the chatbot to communities for free or at a reduced cost. This would allow us to scale our impact to more underserved communities, while also generating revenue to sustain our operations.
- Individual consumers or stakeholders (B2C)
Our plan for financial sustainability involves a combination of revenue streams:
- Fee-for-service: As mentioned earlier, we plan to charge a subscription fee to healthcare providers for the use of our chatbot. We believe that providers will see value in our chatbot's ability to improve patient engagement and reduce the burden on healthcare staff.
- Philanthropic Partnerships: We aim to establish partnerships with foundations, corporations, and other donors who are aligned with our mission of promoting health equity. This could include both unrestricted funding and project-specific funding for the deployment of our chatbot in specific communities.
- Social Impact Investments: We plan to seek out impact investors who are interested in funding solutions that address pressing social problems like health inequity. We believe that our solution has the potential to generate both social and financial returns, making it an attractive investment opportunity.
- Strategic Partnerships: We intend to explore strategic partnerships with healthcare technology companies, such as telemedicine providers, who can help us expand our reach and leverage their existing customer base. These partnerships could involve revenue sharing agreements or licensing fees for the use of our chatbot.
