Our problem revolves around access to reliable and timely information and guidance on eye-related infections, diseases, and health concerns. Many worldwide face challenges in accessing accurate information about eye health, leading to delays in seeking appropriate care, mismanagement of conditions, and potentially preventable vision loss or complications.
The scale of this problem is significant, both locally and globally. Globally, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that approximately 2.2 billion people have vision impairment or blindness, with most cases being preventable or treatable. In addition, millions of people worldwide suffer from various eye infections, diseases, and conditions, ranging from common issues like conjunctivitis to more serious conditions such as glaucoma or diabetic retinopathy.
In India, there is a lack of access to eye care professionals and resources, particularly in rural areas with limited healthcare infrastructure. After interviewing so many doctors and collecting a wide array of data that can be used to answer the doubts and concerns of anyone using our website, we have made the initial design of the website and integrated the answers that we received. We have tested the website with a few questions relating to eye health ourselves and it is not 100% approved and has yet not started being marketed to any communities but will soon.
We are applying to Solve because we believe their network of partners and resources can help us overcome specific barriers we face in advancing our solution.
Financially, we require support to develop and scale our website and chatbot platform, covering technology infrastructure, software development, and operational expenses. Additionally, funding for marketing and outreach efforts is crucial to expand our user base. Receiving a $10,000 prize from Solve and access to additional funding opportunities will be instrumental in furthering our mission. The financial support will enable us to develop and scale our platform, reaching more individuals in need of reliable eye health information. On the technical front, challenges may arise in optimizing the chatbot platform's performance and functionality. With only having data from hospitals from India we want to expand our database further and improve the effectiveness of our solution. Currently we are three high school students working on this project taking the help of doctors from a lot of eye hospitals in Bangalore, India.
We have been working on this solution for only the past 4 months and worked very hard with long nights of dedication and countless interviews to collect this information. Currently a very small project but we hope to turn this into a much bigger project with the help of MIT Solve.
Since it is only in the initial stages and we are only 3 Indian high school students there are not barriers to opportunity. We all take criticism very well and we all work very comfortably, easily, and efficiently with each other. No one is late with their work and no one screams at one other as we treat everyone as equals even though one of our team mates is one year younger to us.
