MommyKidz: A Community for Well-Being from Puberty to Parenting
- Bangladesh
- For-profit, including B-Corp or similar models
MommyKidz is committed to addressing the significant challenges faced by women and families during critical life stages: puberty, pregnancy, and parenting. In Bangladesh, where our efforts are initially concentrated, these challenges are compounded by several factors:
Lack of Access to Healthcare: In Bangladesh, over 3.5 million women become pregnant each year, yet 64% of these women lack easy access to healthcare professionals due to geographic and economic barriers. This lack of access is exacerbated in rural areas, where healthcare facilities are few and far between. Due to high transportation costs and bad roads, women and their families prefer not to visit doctors, mostly in rural areas. As a result, small and preventable issues become life-threatening diseases.
High Rates of Maternal and Infant Mortality: The maternal mortality ratio in Bangladesh is 173 per 100,000 live births, and the infant mortality rate is approximately 25.7 per 1,000 live births. Many of these deaths are preventable with proper healthcare and monitoring.
Early Marriage and Pregnancy: Bangladesh has the highest rate of child marriage in Asia. With 51% of girls married before the age of 18. The Southeast Asia region, accounts for 35.5% (6 million) of adolescent pregnancies. And it is alarming that, around one fourth of all pregnancies occurred in the adolescent age group in Bangladesh, caused by various individual, household and community-level factors.
Those young women often face pregnancy with inadequate knowledge about reproductive health, which increases the risk of complications for both mother and child.
Stigma and Lack of Mental Health Support: Approximately 39% of mothers in Bangladesh experience postpartum depression, yet mental health remains stigmatized, and many women suffer in silence without seeking help.
Pre-conceptional counseling is missing: In Bangladesh, people do not give importance to pre-conceptional counseling and do not even know about it. But with proper pre-conceptional counseling or planning, it is possible to reduce complications.
Hesitation in buying sexual and reproductive health care products:
Due to prevailing social stigma, purchasing essential sexual and reproductive health products such as condoms, sanitary napkins, and birth control pills is particularly challenging, especially for women. This hesitation often leads to inadequate access to these critical items, resulting in various health complications. These include urinary tract infections, reproductive tract infections, and unintended pregnancies. The lack of access to necessary health products not only affects physical health but also impacts mental well-being.
Available tech Solution Lacks:
1. Emergency response and proper monitoring are not possible
2. Personalized, accurate information is not available
3.Language and cultural barriers often tailor solutions to affluent groups.
4. Rural women are have less tech knowledge and using different apps is a luxury for them.
Global Relevance:
While our initial focus is on Bangladesh, these issues are mirrored globally, particularly in other low- and middle-income countries. Globally, hundreds of millions of women face similar barriers, which underscores the universal need for solutions like MommyKidz. We lost a mother worldwide in every 2 minutes due to pregnancy or childbirth. showcase the urgent need for such a platform to save a mother's life.
The solution we have developed is:

Solution we want to develop in MommyKidz next will solve the barriers we have now:
We want Implement a GenAI-powered WhatsApp service integrated within the MommyKidz app:
Here, we want to Apply WhatsApp Business API within the MommyKidz app and deploy AI-driven chatbot for instant health advice in local languages. It will help rural areas and low income families because:
- In Bangladesh, WhatsApp has approximately 44 million users as of 2024. This substantial user base highlights the platform's popularity and the potential for reaching a broad audience.
- WhatsApp can operate on 2G, 3G, 4G, and Wi-Fi networks, adapting its data usage based on the network strength to maintain functionality. This adaptability makes it suitable for rural or remote areas where network conditions are not always optimal.
- WhatsApp is known for its relatively low data usage and can function effectively on low-capacity smartphones, which makes it a practical choice for users in areas with limited internet bandwidth or those using older or less advanced mobile devices.
- It will reduce the operation cost and we will be able to provide our services much more efficiently.
- As AI-driven, it will help to provide emergency responses more effectively and will help to generate personalized responses which will dramatically help to reduce preventable maternal and child mortality in a larger volume.
MommyKidz is designed to serve women in Bangladesh, focusing on those in rural and underserved communities. This population includes girls in puberty, pregnant women, new mothers, and families with children aged 0–5.
This group is significantly underserved due to several factors:
Geographic and Economic Barriers: Many women live in areas where healthcare facilities are sparse and traveling to them is prohibitive due to distance and cost. This is particularly acute in rural regions.
Cultural and Social Stigma: There is considerable stigma attached to discussing reproductive and sexual health, which prevents many women from seeking necessary care and information.
Lack of Access to Information: Comprehensive, accurate information about sexual and reproductive health is not widely available, especially information that is culturally and linguistically tailored to the local population.
Inadequate Health Services: Even when women can access health facilities, the services often lack integration, meaning that women need to visit multiple locations for different types of care, which is both time-consuming and expensive.

MommyKidz impacts the lives of these women by addressing the above challenges through a multifaceted mobile platform:

As the co-founder and CEO of MommyKidz and a mother myself, I bring a deeply personal understanding of the challenges faced during pregnancy and parenting. This firsthand experience drives my commitment to ensuring no woman has to endure similar difficulties in isolation. Our solution, MommyKidz, is designed not only from professional insight but also from the shared experiences of our team members who are representative of the communities we serve.
Direct Experience and Empathy: My own struggles as a young mother have given me critical insights into the physical and mental health support needs during motherhood. This empathy guides our mission and approach, ensuring we address real issues in meaningful ways. Not only me, but my whole team, starting from our tech team to our health team, has personal experience in this domain. And this personal experience was the first domain expertise i was looking for in my team.
Ground-Level Research: To deeply understand the challenges faced by lower-income families, our team has conducted field visits to slums and garment factories. These interactions help us grasp the lifestyle and constraints of our users, enabling us to tailor our tools effectively.
Engagement with Healthcare Professionals: We regularly consult with doctors from both rural and urban settings to uncover barriers women face in speaking openly about their health. This dialogue helps refine our approach, ensuring we address the root causes of silence around women’s health issues.
Community Feedback Integration: Our platform is built on continuous feedback from the users it serves. By allowing anonymous submissions, we empower women to discuss sensitive topics without fear of stigma. We receive over 500 health-related queries daily, many of which involve topics considered social taboos. This direct feedback loop informs the ongoing development and refinement of our services.
Accessibility and Inclusivity: All our self-care tools are freely available to ensure no financial barriers prevent access to essential health information. For services that require a fee, we maintain the lowest possible cost to ensure affordability for all, particularly for those in economically disadvantaged positions.
Global Reach: Recognizing the global nature of the Bangladeshi diaspora, we have designed MommyKidz to serve Bangla-speaking individuals worldwide. Bangla speaking women from 70 different countries are right now using our app. This international perspective is crucial, as it allows us to support a broader community, reflecting the global challenge of maternal health.
Conclusion:
Our team’s ability to deliver this solution stems from a blend of personal experience, dedicated research, and active community engagement. The design and implementation of MommyKidz are profoundly guided by the needs, input, and ideas of the communities we aim to serve. We are committed to continuously adapting and enhancing our platform to meet these needs effectively, ensuring every mother has the support she requires for a healthy and informed motherhood journey.
