Bump to Babe
- Kenya
- For-profit, including B-Corp or similar models
We are addressing the challenge of accessing comprehensive postnatal care for new mothers, particularly in the urban areas of Kenya. New mothers in Kenya face significant hurdles in accessing essential postnatal support due to logistical barriers like transportation, limited time, and an overwhelmed healthcare system, contributing to the country's ranking as the 12th highest in maternal mortality rates. According to the CIA World Factbook, approximately 530 out of 100,000 women die during and following pregnancy and childbirth each year in Kenya, with postnatal care gaps contributing significantly to this figure.
Our solution, Bump to Babe, directly addresses these challenges by offering personalized, tech-driven support accessible from the comfort of home. By combining virtual consultations, home visits, and 24/7 app assistance, we aim to provide continuous support to new mothers, improving maternal health outcomes and reducing the risk of complications. Our approach empowers mothers to navigate the postnatal period with confidence and support, ultimately reducing maternal mortality rates and improving overall maternal and infant health.
Our solution, Bump to Babe, is a mobile application designed to provide personalized postnatal care for new mothers. It offers a range of services aimed at supporting mothers during the crucial postpartum period.
Using the Bump to Babe app, mothers can access in-home care visits and virtual consultations with healthcare professionals, receive customized care plans tailored to their individual needs, and connect with a community of other mothers for support and advice. Additionally, the app offers features such as educational resources on topics like breastfeeding and infant care and tools for tracking postpartum recovery progress.
The technology behind Bump to Babe includes a user-friendly mobile interface, telemedicine software for virtual consultations, and data analytics tools for personalized care planning. This combination of features and technology enables Bump to Babe to deliver comprehensive and accessible postnatal care to new mothers, helping them navigate the challenges of early motherhood with confidence and support.
We're focused on enhancing the lives of new mothers in urban Kenya, where approximately 530 out of 100,000 women die during or after pregnancy each year due to inadequate postnatal care. Many of these mothers face logistical hurdles, hindering their access to essential support. Bump to Babe aims to directly address the needs of these underserved mothers by providing personalized postnatal care through virtual consultations, in-home visits, and community support, ultimately improving maternal health outcomes and reducing maternal mortality rates.

- Concept
We are currently in a hybrid stage of development for our solution. While we have a design prototype in place, we are still largely in the concept stage of development. Even though we have progressed to creating a tangible representation of our idea, there is still significant refinement and development needed before reaching a fully functional prototype. Having the design prototype has allowed us to visualize our concept more concretely and gather initial feedback. However, there is still work to be done to refine and iterate on our solution before moving into full-scale development.
Board Advisory - We're looking to gather a board of advisors who can offer strategic insights and guidance on navigating Kenya's healthcare landscape.
Networking Opportunities - Building connections is crucial for our success. Solve can open doors to valuable networking opportunities, allowing us to collaborate with peers, learn from others' experiences, and access the resources we need to thrive.
Funding - Securing funding is essential for our growth. Solve's network can help us find the financial support we need to invest in technology, expand our team, and reach more mothers in need of postnatal care.
Software Development Support - As a tech-driven solution, expert software development guidance is key. Solve can connect us with partners who can provide mentorship and support as we enhance our platform's functionality and user experience.
- Business Model (e.g. product-market fit, strategy & development)
- Financial (e.g. accounting practices, pitching to investors)
- Public Relations (e.g. branding/marketing strategy, social and global media)
- Technology (e.g. software or hardware, web development/design)
Bump to Babe stands out as an innovative solution for postnatal care by offering personalized support tailored to each mother's unique needs and preferences. Our approach integrates technology, including a user-friendly mobile app and telemedicine software, to provide accessible and convenient care anytime, anywhere. We are against the one-size-fits-all prenatal care that is prevalent in our country, and what makes us innovative is that we are making postnatal care personal.
What we do: We provide personalized postnatal care through our mobile app, offering virtual consultations, in-home visits, educational resources, and community support.

Research:
Kenya's Demographic and Health Survey inclusive of Post-Natal Care statistics
Our impact goals for Bump to Babe are centred around improving maternal health outcomes and reducing maternal mortality rates in Kenya. Specifically, we aim to:
Increase Access to Postnatal Care: Ensure that 90% of new mothers in urban areas of Kenya have access to comprehensive postnatal care within the first six months postpartum.
Improve Maternal Health Indicators: Reduce the maternal mortality rate in our target communities by 20% within three years.
Enhance Maternal Well-being: Within one year, increase the proportion of mothers reporting positive mental health outcomes postpartum by 30%.
Promote Healthy Infant Development: Improve infant health outcomes by increasing the rate of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months to 80% within two years.
To measure our progress towards these impact goals, we are tracking several key indicators:
- Number of mothers enrolled in Bump to Babe's postnatal care program.
- Percentage of mothers receiving timely postnatal care visits within the first six weeks postpartum.
- Maternal mortality rate in our target communities.
- Maternal mental health assessment scores pre-and post-intervention.
- Rates of exclusive breastfeeding among infants in our program.
These indicators align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals related to maternal health (SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being), ensuring that our solution's impact is measurable, trackable, and aligned with global development objectives.
Mobile App - Our user-friendly mobile application will serve as the central hub for accessing postnatal care services. Through the app, mothers can schedule virtual consultations, access educational resources, track their health metrics, and connect with healthcare professionals and community support groups.
Telemedicine Software - We hope to utilize telemedicine software to facilitate virtual consultations between mothers and healthcare providers. This technology enables real-time communication and interaction, allowing mothers to receive personalized care and support from the comfort of their homes.
