Bangladesh, with a population of over 160 million, faces a chronic shortage of safe blood supplies. The national demand for blood is estimated at approximately 800,000 to 1,000,000 units per year. However, only about 500,000 units are collected annually, leading to a significant shortfall. The reliance on family/replacement donors and paid donors comprises a substantial portion of these donations, which are less safe and sustainable than voluntary donations.

Globally, the challenge mirrors the situation in Bangladesh but on a larger scale. More than 118 million blood donations are collected worldwide each year, but distribution is uneven and often does not meet the demand in many countries.

 Problem Specifics

 Inefficiencies in Blood Supply Management:

- Disconnected Supply Chains: In many regions, particularly in developing countries like Bangladesh, there is a lack of coordination between blood donors, healthcare facilities, and patients. This disconnect leads to critical delays, wastage of blood supplies, and inefficiencies that can be life-threatening.

- Limited Accessibility for Patients: Patients often struggle to locate available blood supplies in a timely manner, especially in emergency situations or for regular transfusions needed for conditions like thalassemia.

This group includes individuals involved in severe accidents, those undergoing major surgeries, and women experiencing complications during childbirth.

community centers, leveraging their networks and insights to enhance our outreach and impact. These partnerships help in building trust within the community and facilitate smoother execution of our projects.

What We Have Built and Tested So Far:

Functional Website: We've constructed a user-friendly website that serves as the central hub for our services. This platform allows healthcare facilities to register their blood needs, donors to sign up and indicate their availability, and patients or their representatives to locate necessary blood resources.

Features Implemented: Key features currently functional on our website include a real-time database of available blood units, a registration system for donors and healthcare facilities, and a matching algorithm that connects blood supply with demand based on blood type, location, and urgency.

Data Security and Privacy: We have implemented robust data protection measures to ensure the security and confidentiality of personal and medical information shared by users.

We haven't served any customers yet as we are still trying to pilot our project. 

We are applying to MIT Solve because we believe that its network of experts, partners, and resources aligns perfectly with the multifaceted support needs of our blood supply management platform. Specifically, we are seeking assistance in three critical areas: financial, legal, and marketing.

Financial Assistance:

While we have a prototype under testing, launching a pilot and scaling our platform to reach more communities and enhance its features requires substantial financial resources. We anticipate that MIT Solve can connect us with potential funding sources, including grants and impact investors, who are committed to global health solutions. This financial support would enable us to expand our pilot testing, refine our technology, and implement the necessary infrastructure for growth.
