Skali - Remote Emergency Response Solutions
- United States
- Hybrid of for-profit and nonprofit
In remote and challenging locations, workers and customers often face critical healthcare needs without immediate access to medical professionals. The lack of timely medical assistance can lead to dire consequences for individuals in need, whether due to accidents, injuries, or medical emergencies. The current healthcare infrastructure in such areas is often inadequate, making it difficult for workers and customers to receive the necessary medical attention promptly. This situation highlights the pressing need for a solution that provides immediate access to healthcare professionals, particularly in remote and challenging locations.
1. Lack of Immediate Medical Assistance: In remote and challenging locations, workers are faced with medical emergencies or having to tend to emergencies and require immediate access to trained medical professionals.
2. Inadequate Healthcare Infrastructure: The existing healthcare infrastructure in remote areas is insufficient to serve workers in remote locations. With limited medical facilities, lack of trained personnel, and hours from healthcare centers exacerbate the problem.
3. Communication Barriers: With influx of immigrant populations who are marginalized, language hinders the ability to contact emergency medical services or receive timely advice.
4. Impact on Productivity and Business Operations. Workers serving in remote locations have limited supplies and with skeleton crews, medical emergencies can greatly disrupt work schedules, and lead to significant financial losses. Customers such as airline passengers and crews on ships face terrible delays and disrupt their daily lives with incomplete records.
Current in-flight emergency services lack the necessary communication and diagnostic tools
to give relevant information to medical professionals, limiting their ability to provide timely medical care and appropriate operational recommendations when human are 35,000 ft in the air or 35 miles from shore.
Not Publicly Viewable: for internal use only. Skali is a point-of-care aide responding to in-flight, on-sea or on-land medical emergencies. Our cloud-based Tele EMS application captures the passenger's clinical info and transmits to a ground-based US-physician, who make clinically informed decisions of a passenger or crew health.
Skali will change the way the world deals with medical emergencies in remote and challenging locations. Our platform is easy to use, giving flight and maritime crews the ability to collect critical information from an ailing passenger by answering a few questions about them on the Skali app. A proprietary algorithm simplifies handling of a medical emergency, and our HIPAA-compliant video/ chat service enables the an attendant or the crew member to initiate a
video call with a ground-based US-based physician. This minimizes unsafe distractions, improves medical outcomes and enhances operational efficiency.
Built-in reporting and analytics streamline emergency response processes and improve liability protection. The big picture: transforming worker safety for organizations and the lives of the passengers.

Partnerships and Collaborations: We have signed channel partnerships with the companies World Fuel Services (parent company is World Kinect corporation, market cap $1.47b) and eTT aviation (startup with revenue in 2023 of $5.6M). We are also working towards OEM partnership with Aircraft Manufacturing companies.
Solve.mit.edu program offers market access with their rich alumni. We wish to enter new markets to connect with potential customers, and expand our user base which has predominantly be airlines which has been a herculean task.
We are seeking legal guidance as many of the industries that we wish to enter are highly regulated and require many hurdles which we are dedicated in pursuing but we don’t have the proper advice. These legal barriers and regulations have been difficult with limited resources. For example, government contracts are a potential area where our app would have high use for with US funding in overseas projects but we have been looked over using the resources which we have applied to date. We seek access to technical experts and mentors who can help with understanding market conditions and barriers to entry which we have studied but which we would appreciate additional insight into as we develop new features. Finally, financial support in the form of grants, investments, and connections to potential investors.
- Legal or Regulatory Matters
- Public Relations (e.g. branding/marketing strategy, social and global media)
- Technology (e.g. software or hardware, web development/design)
Our solution is innovated as it’s simple to use, Deploys seamlessly on existing infrastructure, is device agnostic and Works at extremely low bandwidths.
We are seeking to deploy Integrated Health Monitoring System for In-Flight Emergencies.
The proposed LifeLink Monitoring (LLM) project addresses a critical aspect of aviation safety by integrating passenger health data, aircraft location, and Trauma 1 center information. The project would significantly improve the efficiency and effectiveness of in-flight medical emergency responses, ensuring the well-being of passengers during air travel.
The project would establish a connection between passengers’ medical symptoms, the real-time location of an aircraft, and the nearest Trauma 1 center.
Components of the LLM Project include:passenger health monitoring, aircraft geolocation, Trauma 1 Center location, communication protocols and User Interface and Alert System to provide automated alerts to the concerned parties.
Benefits:
1. Timely Response: Enables prompt response to in-flight medical emergencies by connecting symptoms with the aircraft’s location and the nearest Trauma 1 center.
2. Enhanced Passenger Safety: Improves the overall safety of passengers by ensuring that appropriate medical assistance is readily available during critical situations.
3. Optimized Resource Allocation: Enables efficient allocation of medical resources, reducing response time and increasing the chances of successful intervention.
4. Data-Driven Insights: Gathers valuable data for post-incident analysis, contributing to the improvement of in-flight emergency protocols and medical response strategies.
Enhance safety: Air crews and maritime crews are trained to minimize distraction and work diligently to improve CRM (crew resource management) to operate safely across all phases of flight. While medical emergencies rightly demand crew attention, Skali’s innovative system reduces distraction, especially for pilots who are safest when they can focus on flying rather than acting as “middleman” to communicate between patient and doctor over the radio. Similarly, cabin crews benefit from the reduced workload by remaining free to attend to other passengers to improve comfort and safety. Skali connects the patient directly to the doctor, allowing all crew members to focus on operating the flight primarily.
Significant cost savings: Approximately 1 in 604 flights experience a medical event. Many times, the crew elects to divert to a closer airfield for medical support. Even when the crew has access to a ground-based physician, the physician has incomplete information and often recommends a diversion out of caution. Yet many of these diversions ultimately prove unnecessary, and costly. Indeed, costs for large commercial airlines can reach over $800,000 each diversion! While most carriers will experience much lower diversion costs, any opportunity for savings is still welcome. With Skali’s improved communication physicians can provide better advice and aircraft operators will reduce unnecessary diversions.
Improve branding: When organizations offer the latest in inflight medical service, your customers and workers will receive the best experience possible. For passengers’ peace-of-mind, there is nothing quite as assuring as speaking face-to-face with a physician during a stressful medical event. Discerning customers will appreciate the improved service you offer from Skali, boosting your brand image and sales.
Number of diversions that were quickly assessed and through quality interactions.
Reduction in Response Time time from similar emergency situations and response times using the app.
Enhancing Communication. User survey completed following interaction where attendant or worker/customer rates their experience and how they can improve communication between emergency responders and individuals in distress, allowing for more accurate and timely information exchange.
In the event that a medical intervention is insufficient and diversion to a major medical center is required, measurement of time for coordination with major medical centers including time affected worker or passenger was able to reach resolution to their emergency.
