MedexerConnect addresses the critical issue of chronic blood shortages in African healthcare systems. This shortage directly contributes to elevated mortality rates, particularly in emergencies and for vulnerable populations such as accident victims, cancer patients, during childbirth, and so on.

The African healthcare system is experiencing chronic blood shortages across its sectors. According to the WHO, there was a shortfall of 3,290,289 units of blood in 2020 in 38 African countries (https://www.downtoearth.org.in/news/africa/covid-19-pandemic-impacted-blood-supply-in-africa-who-85451). Using Nigeria as an example,  the Nigerian Blood Service Commission (NBSC), said the agency collects only 500,000 pints of blood out of the 1.8 million units needed by the country annually (https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2023/01/12/the-case-for-voluntary-blood-donation). This means a deficit of about 73.3%. This means 3 in 4 people die or develop complications that may lead to death as a direct result of a lack of blood.

• Maternal Health: Blood shortages disproportionately impact women in childbirth. Hemorrhage is a leading cause of maternal mortality, and timely access to blood transfusions is crucial for saving lives.
