- For-profit, including B-Corp or similar models
The textile industry ranks as the second largest global polluter, trailing only behind energy, and stands as the third largest contributor to water degradation and land use. Its environmental impact extends across the entire industrial ecosystem, from design to distribution, magnifying its consequences. With the clothing sector alone representing over $1.4 trillion USD and employing over 300 million people, addressing its environmental challenges is imperative for economic, social, and environmental sustainability. Africa, despite contributing only 2 to 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions, faces disproportionate vulnerability to climate change. Yet, it also presents opportunities, particularly in sustainable agribusiness, renewable energy, and textile manufacturing.
Since the genocide of 1994, Rwanda has hosted more than 130,000 refugees with the provision of education ceasing at age 12 leaving a disproportionate number of refugees uneducated and idle. JSN's Tech-Infused Green Learning initiative offers a transformative solution for refugees aged 18-35 in Rwanda, many of whom have been in camps for more than two decades. Despite displacement, these individuals harbor untapped potential and aspirations, often hindered by limited access to education, livelihoods, and economic empowerment. By focusing on these communities, JSN tailors its approach to address specific needs and vulnerabilities recognizing self-determined economic stability and asset acquisition. Through technology integrations, environmental sustainability, and business principles, JSN empowers refugees to drive change in their communities. A lack of systematic access to education and workforce training poses a significant challenge for refugees. Traditional in-country models may not suit their circumstances, leaving gaps in knowledge and skills and perpetuating protracted displacement. JSN's initiative fills this void with tailored curricula leveraging STEAM principles and interactive tools, fostering ILT and self-paced VLT learning.
JSN's emphasis on environmental sustainability aligns with global green initiatives and the circular economy, as per the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By integrating green business practices, learners contribute to sustainable development while creating economic opportunities for themselves and their community. Entrepreneurship and small business development training empower refugees to launch ventures, fostering economic independence and resilience.
Beyond classroom learning, JSN offers experiential opportunities and real-world challenges, equipping refugees with practical skills essential in today's job market. Bridging theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience prepares refugees for diverse sectors, including technology, textiles, agriculture, and renewable energy.
In summary, JSN's Tech-Infused Green Learning initiative provides a holistic solution for refugees in Rwanda, fostering accessible education, environmental sustainability, entrepreneurship, and experiential learning. Through collaboration and innovation, JSN aims for inclusive growth and prosperity, not only in Rwanda but beyond.

JSN’s technology is dramatically expanding the type and scope of research and experiential learning that students can conduct locally and worldwide on how environmental issues affect business. The experiential aspect of the technology bridges the spatial difference between students in different localities and allows them to collaborate on environmental research and problem-solving. A critical part of international business education is to connect students across the globe around topics of importance to our world and address the challenges most critical to them locally and globally.
JSN's innovative technology heralds the dawn of the Fourth Industrial Revolution for a Green Circular Economy, revolutionizing environmental research and education. This groundbreaking platform empowers students worldwide to explore the intricate relationship between environmental challenges and business operations with unprecedented depth and scope. By transcending geographical barriers, our hybrid experiential platform facilitates collaboration among students from diverse backgrounds, fostering collective efforts towards environmental problem-solving on a global scale.
JSN has targeted several priority populations historically underserved and excluded from systematic workforce development and education, specifically refugee populations representing over 114 million displaced individuals. In Rwanda, and much of Africa, there exists a "youth bulge" with significant numbers of young adults unemployed and unskilled but looking for pathways to self-sufficiency. According to the UNHCR, the refugee population of Rwanda is over 130,000 displaced individuals with more than 22% young adults seeking pathways out of "forever refugee" status many of whom have been displaced for more than 2 decades. UNCHR humanitarian aid is limited in its provision of systematic education and at age 12 refugees are no longer offered education. Barriers such as access to technology, transportation, funding and isolation along with the psycho-social impacts of refugee status, prevent young adults from obtaining education and skill-based learning. UNHCR and its 26 Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and community-based organizations (CBO) have come to recognize this population as a critically undercapitalized and served potential workforce. Shifting from humanitarian assistance to developmentally phased assistance, UNHCR is seeking resources to accelerate the access and options for education, vocational training and workforce development.
JSN has partnered with Mondiant Initiative, a reputable UNHCR partner and refugee founded and led NGO, to assess and evaluate learning readiness and identify individuals within camps seeking workforce training in textile industry.
In a world where change is constant, education must evolve to meet the needs of tomorrow's leaders. G.I.V.E. 4R FUTURE is more than just a program; it's a catalyst for transformative learning, empowering students to become agents of change in a world striving for sustainability.

Mondiant Initiative (MI), a recently formed not-for-profit/NGO, focuses on refugee education. Founded BY a refugee FOR refugees, the organization addresses the critical need of empowering young refugees who are often idle, uneducated, and disengaged from society through no fault of their own. Its CEO's personal journey from childhood home to refugee camps and then to higher education underscores the organization's mission and the urgency of its work. In just two years, MI has emerged as a leader in Rwanda, providing scholarships, supportive assistance, and community-based programs. Currently, 21 students are enrolled in Rwandan colleges and universities subsidized and supported by MI. MI's leadership team also includes refugees with firsthand experience of protracted displacement in camps, who have dedicated their careers to working with refugees. Collaborating closely with this team, JSN tailors its content to the specific cultural and social norms of East Africa and African Textiles, adhering to UN principles of Accountability to Affected Persons and the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse.
The organization also hosts employer-related workshops and seminars to raise awareness and support for refugee employment. Moving forward, MI envisions phased Initiatives to focus on addressing concrete, measurable needs for successful entry into, participation in, and completion of higher education and/or career preparation programs, along with developing with JSN entrepreneurial programming.
