The problem we are addressing among young people in Nigeria is multifaceted. Firstly, many are grappling with breaking the cycle of generational poverty, which consumes their focus and diminishes their awareness of and engagement with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This preoccupation with survival often sidelines their participation in initiatives aimed at societal progress.

Secondly, there exists a significant mismatch between the education system and the needs of today's rapidly evolving society. Outdated curricula and teaching methods fail to equip young Nigerians with the skills and knowledge required for modern workplaces or entrepreneurial endeavors. Consequently, many youths emerge from the education system unemployable or lacking the resourcefulness to seize available opportunities or take proactive steps toward prosperity.

Furthermore, there is a pervasive lack of understanding among youth about how present technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), social media, the Internet of Things (IoT), and digital platforms, can drive enterprise, business innovation, and professionalism. This technological gap leaves them ill-prepared to harness these tools for economic advancement or to navigate the increasingly digital landscape of modern work and commerce.

These challenges collectively hinder the ability of young Nigerians to break free from the cycle of poverty, contribute meaningfully to sustainable development initiatives, and seize opportunities for personal and community prosperity. Addressing these issues requires comprehensive interventions that provide relevant education, skills training, and access to technology and mentorship to empower youth and unlock their potential as agents of positive change and economic growth.

Our solution serves young Nigerians, particularly those from underserved communities, who face numerous challenges and barriers to realizing their full potential. This demographic includes individuals aged 18 to 35 who may lack access to quality education, economic opportunities, and support systems. Many of them come from low-income families, marginalized groups, or areas affected by poverty and limited resources.

Currently, these youth are underserved in various ways. They may lack access to educational resources, vocational training, and mentorship opportunities that are critical for their personal and professional development. Additionally, they may face systemic barriers such as discrimination, limited access to technology, and entrenched poverty, which further hinder their ability to thrive.

Our solution addresses these needs by providing comprehensive empowerment programs tailored to the specific challenges faced by young Nigerians. Through skills-based training, mentorship, and access to digital resources, we equip them with the tools and knowledge needed to overcome barriers and seize opportunities for success. Our team at Rolan Foundation is uniquely positioned to deliver this solution because of our deep understanding of the challenges facing young Nigerians and our close proximity to the communities we serve. As a grassroots organization founded and led by individuals who have personally experienced the struggles and obstacles prevalent in these communities, we bring firsthand knowledge and empathy to our work.

The Team Lead and members of our team come from diverse backgrounds and have lived experiences that mirror those of the target population. Many of us have grown up in underserved communities, faced similar barriers to education and opportunity, and have overcome adversity to pursue our goals. This shared background allows us to connect authentically with the youth we serve, understand their needs, and design solutions that are culturally relevant and responsive to their realities.

Importantly, the design and implementation of our solution are guided by the input, ideas, and agendas of the communities themselves. We prioritize community engagement and participatory approaches, actively involving young Nigerians in the co-creation and decision-making processes of our programs. Through focus group discussions, community meetings, and feedback sessions, we ensure that our interventions are driven by the voices and aspirations of those directly affected.

Furthermore, our team collaborates closely with local stakeholders, including community leaders, educators, and youth organizations, to leverage existing resources and networks and maximize the impact of our initiatives. We selected the Pilot Stage for our solution because we believe it is crucial to validate our approach and gather real-world feedback before scaling up. At this stage, we have built and tested a prototype of our digital platform, the Youth4SDGs Ambassador Program, which serves as the cornerstone of our empowerment initiative.

Our prototype includes features such as online training modules, a mentorship portal, and a resource library tailored to the needs of young Nigerians. We have conducted several pilot sessions with a select group of youth participants from diverse backgrounds to assess the usability, effectiveness, and relevance of the platform.

Through these pilot sessions, we have gathered valuable insights into the user experience, content preferences, and challenges faced by our target audience. We have iteratively refined the platform based on this feedback, enhancing its functionality, content quality, and user interface to better meet the needs and expectations of our users.

To date, we have served over 27 pilot participants who have actively engaged with our platform and provided feedback on its features and content. Their input has been instrumental in shaping the development of the Youth4SDGs Ambassador Program, ensuring that it is responsive to the needs and aspirations of the youth we aim to empower.

Additionally, we have conducted preliminary outreach and awareness campaigns to promote the pilot program and recruit participants. Through social media, community events, and partnerships with local organizations, we have successfully onboarded a diverse group of youth from across Nigeria, representing different regions, backgrounds, and perspectives.

We are applying to Solve because we believe in the power of collaboration and collective action to address complex challenges and drive meaningful change. As a Solver, we see an opportunity to leverage Solve's extensive network of partners, resources, and expertise to overcome specific barriers and accelerate the impact of our solution.

One of the key barriers we face is the need for technical expertise and support to further develop and scale our digital platform, the Youth4SDGs Ambassador Program. While we have made significant progress in building and testing our prototype, we recognize that there are technical challenges and complexities that require specialized knowledge and resources to address effectively.

By partnering with Solve, we hope to access mentorship, guidance, and technical assistance from experts in digital technology, education, and entrepreneurship.
