Fred: Reliable Traffic Accident Data for Safer Roads
- United States

Road traffic injuries (RTIs) is the 8th leading cause of death globally. 96% of accidents happen in Low-Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) despite having only half of the world's vehicles. 49% of those accidents are in APAC. The UN Sustainable Goal 3.6 is to half this number by 2030 but we are nowhere near it.
One of the major hurdles is the unreliable and incomplete data in developing countries. This lack of accurate information makes it incredibly challenging to identify effective interventions. The most crucial data needed to develop preventative strategies is often the least reported.
Law enforcement have to fill these forms in manually, and they are only concerned about assigning blame for insurance purposes. Most of the fields like the location of the accident or whether alcohol is involved or seatbelt information is not even filled in.
FRED is an end-to-end traffic incident management platform that provides cities actionable data to improve safety. It is an app that automatically detects accidents. By harnessing GPS technology, along with data on date, time, road type, and even weather conditions, FRED provides a comprehensive picture of road incidents. But it doesn't stop there. FRED can even suggest interventions like installing traffic lights at problematic intersections, allowing us to measure their impact over time.
Targeting the APAC cities with the lowest mobility scores:
Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Jakarta, Delhi, Mumbai, and Manila
I am a Filipino American and I have a vested interest in starting it in the Philippines. The solution would work in any city.

I have reached out to Venture Studios who are evaluating it with a scorecard. I have identified a contractor who can implement the MVP in 12 weeks.
My professional background is in Product. I need the connections and a team to move the idea forward.
- Business Model (e.g. product-market fit, strategy & development)
- Financial (e.g. accounting practices, pitching to investors)
- Human Capital (e.g. sourcing talent, board development)
- Legal or Regulatory Matters
- Monitoring & Evaluation (e.g. collecting/using data, measuring impact)
The innovative nature of this solution lies in its ability to stand alone as a comprehensive tool for addressing road safety challenges. In Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs), where resources and infrastructure may be limited, it's crucial to leapfrog over traditional technologies and approaches to rapidly advance and bring them up to speed with global standards. By offering a holistic solution like FRED, we can effectively bridge the gap and propel these regions forward in road safety initiatives.
The closest technology to FRED are telematics that insurance companies use to determine premium costs. This system uses technology to analyze various aspects of a driver's behavior, such as braking intensity or level of distraction, to determine personalized premium costs.
However, despite the potential benefits of UBI, privacy concerns are a significant barrier to widespread adoption. According to surveys, 90% of Americans consider their privacy to be an important issue, with 68% indicating that no insurance discount would be worth sacrificing their privacy.
We are working on UN Sustainable Goal 3.6 to lower Road Traffic Injuries by half. We are specifically targeting LMICs in APAC.
We will do this by collecting accident data automatically, mitigation recommendations through AI, and mitigation impact through analysis.
