HAIR - Biogenic Solutions to Clean and Save Water
- Spain
- For-profit, including B-Corp or similar models
Our planet is home to an exponential resource of 8,1 billion people, a number that is foreseen to grow even more in the coming years. Every year 2.2 billion kg of hair waste is generated globally from hair salons and ends up in landfills causing significant harm upon our environment.
Meanwhile 86% of water is contaminated by man made activity with large amounts of pollutants, solid waste, micro plastics and large carbon emissions. In agriculture 70% of land is altered by man causing soil erosion, using large amounts of water for irrigation, large use of fertilisers and large amounts of plastic to compensate.
We recycle human hair waste from hair salons and transform it into circular Eco Design products for marine environment preservation and regenerative agriculture.
Through our hair recycling service for hairdressers we eliminate tons of hair waste that would normally go to landfill or be burnt, causing great harm upon the environment with increased CO2 emissions and methane gases. With a management system in place we transform this hair waste into organic eco design products and solutions that clean and save water, increase soil health and can replace standard used plastic products in ports and agriculture.
1. Hair Recycling Service

Embedded with a sensor system collecting and tracking essential water quality data and a digital platform providing real time impact analysis.
3. Vegan Biodegradable Mulch
A Vegan Biodegradable Mulch for agriculture, vineyards and gardens that significantly reduce water usage, while increasing soil health, temperature and humidity in agriculture. Embedded with a sensor system collecting and tracking essential impact data, with an IoT platform providing real time impact analysis.
4. Sensors & IoT Platform
Products are backed up by technology and science to guarantee efficiency, transparency and authenticity. With a digital platform offering real-time analysis of economic and environmental impact. Doubling as a community hub enabling stakeholders with participation in the network.
The Beauty Industry, being one of the largest polluters with large amounts of waste - we provide a service that provides a solution to their waste, meanwhile adding value to hair salons through education and awareness about circular practices and learning how their hair waste is used ethically in products that serve a positive impact on the environment. This provides an impact on local communities, both rural and cities to take action on waste management, with education for both hairdressers and their salons and the customers that choose them.
The Port Industry - Sea Decontamination Barriers - In one year 36 of these barriers in the port can remove: - 4320 kg of hydrocarbons from the sea in the port - 625 kg of polypropylene products from ports - 50,5 g of heavy metals - collect and convert 1080 kg of hair waste into useful resources. The barriers that are made from hair waste are an organic alternative that naturally adsorb hydrocarbons and heavy metals from the sea providing an alternative for the port industry to eliminate the use of standard single use Polypropylene decontamination barriers that contribute to the production of plastic products and also in time deteriorate into micro plastics in the sea. The Sea Decontamination Barriers are a locally sourced resource that benefit the Port Industry with sustainable products, local hair salons businesses and local communities that together become a part of circular practices.
Agriculture and Municipalities - Vegan Biodegradable Mulch made from hair waste and natural fibers sourced and produced locally that significantly reduces water usage in agriculture with more than 50% compared to standard plastic products. It reduces soil temperature by more than 11 % and reduces water evaporation by more than 21 % compared to standard plastic products. For farmers, municipalities, parks and gardens this reduces the use of water for irrigation, and with that water costs, it acts as a natural fertiliser and can therefore eliminate adding fertilisers and extra costs. It is reusable and can be used for several seasons and is an organic alternative to standard plastic single use products that are in the industry adding to production of plastic and micro plastic spread.

As an exemple for port and intoxicación:
With 36 sea decontamination filter barriers being deployed over the course of 1 year in the Port of Barcelona, Clic Recycle has: (Waste Saved)
Removed 625kg of polypropylene products from ports;
Collected and converted 1080kg of hair waste into useful resources, removed 1080kg of hair waste from landfills or being burnt (Water Saved) Removed 4320kg of hydrocarbons and 50.5g of heavy metals from the port (Area of Ocean and Water Protected/Restored/Rewilded):
Given that it 1 gallon of petroleum can contaminate 1 million gallons of water, it is estimated that Clic decontamination's impact has restored slightly over 1.1 billion liters of water
Earth is home to an exponential resource of 8 billion people.
Shared Economic Opportunities: Enables hairdressers to put their waste to use in previously unrelated sectors, namely agriculture and port water care, generating new economic relationships that offer products and service benefitting all stakeholders.
Full Impact Clic recycle will be able to save greater amounts of hair waste from landfills or being burnt, minimizing GHGs released, create more Decontamination Barriers that remove more hydrocarbons and heavy metals from the sea, create more Biodegradable mulch, minimizing GHGs in plastic mulch production, decreasing plastic in nature, decrease use of water in agriculture, decrease soil erosion and increase soil health.
In one year one port with the need of 500 barriers: (Size Port of Barcelona) the impact is:
15000 kg of Hair waste removed from landfill or being burnt and instead converted into useful product - Sea Decontamination Barrier
60083 kg of Hydrocarbons removed from the sea
701,38 g of Heavy metals removed from the sea
8680,55 kg of Polypropylene removed from ports
As an example: Given there are 3024 ports in Europe, with just 20 million vessels passing through Spanish ports per year, its easy to see how scalable and replicable the solution
45360000 kg (45360 ton) of Hair waste removed from landfill or being burnt and instead converted into useful product - Sea Decontamination Barrier
181690992 kg (181690 ton) of Hydrocarbons removed from the sea
2120973,12 g of Heavy metals removed from the sea
26249983,2 kg (26.249 ton) of Polypropylene removed from ports
