"HYMN OF SCIENCE"...A SONG FOR LIFE AND PEACE

One could say that from the invention of the wheel to the invention of the microchip, science and technology exist because of our insatiable desire to understand the how and why of the world around us, and to improve the fate of humanity. This is the dynamic that has shaped the world: the industrial revolution gave rise to the wealth of the West and introduced modern means of transportation, and today, the information society is built in the universe of cyberspace. In the past, science and technology were, to a large extent, managed by governments. The "compromise" established between society and science made the latter a "public good" that contributed to economic growth, public health and national security. Today, on the other hand, the market determines priorities, funds research and decides which products should be created in response to consumer demand.
Which consumers? Nicholas Negroponte, of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, says, for example, that "it is possible to make a $100 computer, but it would be difficult to sell it, because cheap computing is not a good business. The profit margin is very low. Will we end up denying the poor access to the information society? Undoubtedly, the profit margin is important, but should it determine the direction of scientific research and development?
Hundreds of thousands of lives are at risk if predictions of global warming and rising sea levels are confirmed. Scientists need to know more about this phenomenon in order to deal with its consequences. Water wastage could lead to alarming shortages in some regions and jeopardize peace in others. Science and technology must find the best way to share water equitably and make better use of this precious resource.
It is time for a new "commitment" between the scientific community, the private sector and society. This compromise must establish the ethical basis for this new contract, so that the scientific community and the new enterprises involved in the scientific and technological industries assume their share of responsibility for the well-being of the planet and its people. (René Lefort, UNESCO Sources Magazine)
Although, as this challenge announces, technology and innovation can be powerful tools to promote peace and prosperity, they will not be so if their ends displace human welfare as the highest priority; therefore, it is extremely necessary to frame in a commitment all the ethics that safeguard life and social prosperity in an integral way, keeping technology away from the perverse ends that multiply poverty and inequality in the world. Without a set of values and principles agreed upon, accepted and respected by the actors who generate scientific knowledge and technological development in the first place, and secondly, especially by those who drive and manage the exorbitant economic profits from the exploitation of the fruits of the human brain, there will be no way out of the labyrinth of tragedies that is destroying our planet.
Ethics is an ever-open rethinking of current events, knowledge and the constant discoveries of humankind.
Poetic and Musical Work: "Hymn of Science":

Inspired by the fourth movement of the Ninth "Choral" Symphony (Op. 125), by Ludwig van Beethoven, today Anthem of the European union (EU), arises the poem and musical work called "Hymn of Science", which after similar intentions to those of the poet Schiller and his "Ode to Joy", aims to remind us of the noblest values and ethical principles and the commitment to society to which men of science and technological innovation are owed. A new call for joy, peace and unity among human beings is made in this hymn, based now on the equitable distribution of scientific and technological knowledge and its benefits (both economic and social), of the massive and disinterested harvesting of the fruits of knowledge. In the end, who could deny this new drama in which science and technology have submerged us, from the fervent emotions of happiness generated by effective medical treatments such as penicillin, to the deep frustrations summarized in the Nuclear Warhead.

John Lennon said that "Peace is not something you wish for, it is something you create, something you do, something you are and something you give"; to my humble understanding this task of creating peace is always part of the artistic and cultural movements, as it was demonstrated with the movements and acts in favor of peace to end the Vietnam War in the last century in which John Lennon also participated. It seems to me that the time has come for artists to give their opinion and take the floor in the face of the very worrying situation that is framed in the current warlike conflicts of the planet, whether in Ukraine or in the Middle East; men and women of science know why? in a nuclear war there are no winners and we will all lose. On the other hand, the fate of humanity is threatened by other great plagues such as the recent pandemic of COVID-19 and the waves of combined and aggressive diseases that together with climate change have become the perfect storm, causing the hour of greatest suffering for man and nature; in this sense, so many obstacles will not be overcome and conquered if we do not take the initiative to abandon the ambition of personal glories and material interests and start working as children of the same miracle that we call life united in the same objective "Let's save all to save the future of all".
On this occasion, the interpretation of the "Hymn of Science" is in charge of the Fray Juan Avila Choir from La Victoria, Aragua State, Venezuela, who in a masterful and beautiful way impregnates our souls with a deep song to life and science.

Towards a new science in the hands of all and of which we can all have a more experienced opinion, towards a technology for the benefit and protection of all....Music Master!
Ethics is the very basis of any human act. For example, respecting the environment means that the value of respecting others and future generations is considered to outweigh our immediate interest in using or accessing natural resources. To paraphrase Kant, this is not about pure reason, but "practical reason". To what end does humanity use all scientific discoveries, be it fire, the wheel or the mechanism of the human genome?
One of UNESCO's mandates is to reflect on the ethical implications of scientific and technological discoveries and their applications today. Why now? Because these discoveries entail certain dangers for society. Another reason is that both decision-makers and the general public realize that some decisions are made without full consideration of the ethical implications and the values on which they are based.
In industrialized countries, for example, the decision whether to use oil or nuclear energy is a dilemma. The first option increases the greenhouse effect immediately; the second is harmless in terms of climate change, but in the event of a nuclear catastrophe, it can kill millions of people; on the other hand, nuclear waste accumulates and its harmful effects could be unleashed thousands of years later. What unit of measurement can be used to make decisions in this area? Asking these questions means affirming that the functioning of today's societies presents some threats and that there is no "zero level" of risk.
So far, the debate on these issues has been dominated by an economic discourse. Undoubtedly, the question of access to energy, water, information and communication technologies. The problems of access are closely linked to those of equality and discrimination: why does so-and-so have access to drinking water and so-and-so does not? This question implies other questions, which is why it cannot be dealt with in isolation. If we take the example of research on rare, so-called "orphan" diseases, the question of access to medical care is not the first to be raised: the necessary investments must first be taken into account. And what is to be done if they are considered to be unprofitable?
The "Hymn of Science" aims to define, frame, disseminate and promote through the musical diffusion of this work (in all relevant spaces) the ethical principles of reference, from which a conscious, constructive and beneficial dialogue can be created between all the sectors involved: public, private and industrial. In order to encourage responsible sectors and citizens to enter into a public debate on fundamental issues such as energy, fresh water, information society, among others. Seeking to catalyze the possibilities of cooperation between nations and peoples, provided that everyone realizes that they must cooperate to find solutions.
Tecno Saber 3000 C.A. is a company dedicated to research in the field of renewable energies, the chemical industry, biomedicine and the development of proposals and prototypes to improve science education.

All our educational proposals and our trajectory as disseminators and promoters of science in Venezuela during the last 20 years has been registered and accompanied by the main newspapers of the country and it is this trajectory of dissemination of knowledge that has allowed us to be present in more than 5000 spaces dedicated to the teaching of science (Schools, High Schools, Universities, Research Centers and Scientific and Educational Congresses). The educational and pedagogical inventiveness of our company's employees has allowed us to develop several educational tools, from toys to simulators; these tools have given us the necessary experience to learn from children, young people and adults about the expectations and values that society has about scientific work and the beneficial use of technology in our society.

It has been years of effort and dedication not only to transmit and promote our ingenuity and knowledge, but also to learn to listen to the opinions of those who benefit from the current technological situation of our world and those who are concerned about the healthy development of future times, where the youth of tomorrow will find a world that can be enjoyed and inhabited without the risks associated with perishing as a species.

Each year and each conversation has left with time a word, a verse and a stanza in the final staff of the Hymn of Science.

For years the president of the company has written poetry to be published in some newspapers in the country and with his knowledge of music obtained after studying classical guitar in the early years of his youth he managed to put together and complete the work that we know today "Hymn of Science".

The beautiful lyrics of our "Hymn of Science", as you can read in the following translation, frame the main ethical values to achieve peace and the union of men in a healthy and harmonious sharing of knowledge and the fruits of Knowledge for social prosperity.
"Hymn of Science."
Music: Ludwig van Beethoven
Lyrics Adapted by: Olinto Rosales
CHORUS
Listen brother to the call of science,
It is the tool that has come to set us free,
Come sing, live searching, live inquiring around,
Listen brother to the call of science.
I
Among the Leaves and in the Brightness of the star,
Jealous awaits the mind that is perfect,
Beautiful science that is hope, clothes men and is love,
Among your lights we shelter our lands.
II
If you have thought that you are not for her,
Have it well clear she arrives with wanting it,
It is an eye that among men to help put on God,
If you share her, spring will come to us.
III
If among your people there are problems that afflict them,
She is your ally and solution that is venerated,
Come on, she awaits you, look for the books, go out into the sunshine.
Open your soul to know that she always reigns.
The only thing that delays unity among human beings is to share all the knowledge we know in order to advance faster than our current threats, without forgetting that new paths will have to be built. Jorge Luis Borges, Argentine poet and writer said "The poem wins if we guess that it is the manifestation of a longing, not the history of a fact"...It is time for us to start winning in all this and for that I offer you my beautiful poem, my beautiful song. We invite everyone to start "singing". Wars end at a table... but public opinion must force those who start them, finance them and those who have the power to end them to sit at that table.
For all these reasons; with the help of the diffusion and reproduction in video format of the interpretation of the "Hymn of Science" by the Fray Juan Avila Choir of La Victoria, we are making known our musical composition, in schools, high schools and universities of the country in order to achieve a reference of the musical repertoire of Venezuela and in the not too distant future of a full international appreciation in all countries of the world.
The main feeling that motivates the creation of the "Anthem of Science" is based on the deep conviction and hope that with the creation of a record of this musical composition translated from its original version in Spanish to other languages such as English, French, German and Portuguese, can be the main initiative and the spark needed to create a World Conscience and Harmony...so necessary in our times; so we hope that by participating in MIT Solve, this prestigious award will value the important impact of our initiative, visualizing the positive changes of our solution for people and their communities. We are aware of the significant financial investment required to produce the musical production of the "Anthem of Science" album; therefore, with the help of MIT Solve, we hope to open doors for our solution to receive collaborations, partnerships and additional funding from various stakeholders, such as investors, philanthropists and organizations (public and private).
