Pink Hydrogen: The key to a cleaner future

In our current generation it is almost impossible to do something without leaving behind a carbon footprint. We still use non-renewable sources of energy to power up machines These non-renewable sources consist of Fossil Fuels which are more expensive than most renewable sources of energy. Taking this into account, the usage of fossil fuels would end up polluting our earth more causing irreversible damage. The burning of fossil fuels for energy production releases not only CO2 but also other pollutants such as sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and particulate matter. These pollutants can have serious health impacts, including respiratory diseases, cardiovascular problems, and premature death As of January 2022, global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from human activities, such as burning fossil fuels for energy, transportation, and industrial processes, were estimated to be around 36 billion metric tons per year. EVERYONE emits a carbon footprint therefore everyone is affected. Many countries and organizations have implemented policies and initiatives to reduce emissions and transition to cleaner energy sources. This has led to some positive trends, such as the growth of renewable energy sources and improvements in energy efficiency. However, this is not accessible to everyone including low-income countries, underrepresented countries. bing.com/aclick?ld=e8Upb6jdFTcEMERYNtAy343jVUCUxg3tnvcjz4EHh4apczTeYVTx_4fBqzen2tt295UeDXRSsnGcikqlYeX-jNQ6y-dkiAQ7Gepgr0iv0KmgmYdBt3ZTYpfmLV5nt5jMC0BP3G-OQHx14woHug5vjbUKXd8BRiffVTJWhfw1ijqxG29Yui&u=aHR0cHMlM2ElMmYlMmZ3d3cuY2hvb29zZS50b2RheSUyZnByb2R1Y3QlM2Ztc2Nsa2lkJTNkZGE4ZjE0NDRkNTE3MTI3ZjUxOWU3MjYzNjI3M2UxMGE&rlid=da8f1444d517127f519e72636273e10a&ntb=1. Using this link you can indirectly see your carbon footprint, and you realize how much destruction it is causing towards our planet .By trapping heat in the Earth's atmosphere, greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide (CO2) and others cause global warming. Sea level rise, an increase in the frequency of extreme weather events, and ecological disturbances are just a few of the detrimental effects that this warming may have.
In order to find the solution towards our problem, we need something renewable, clean and recyclable that way we are able to expand it towards low-income countries. We would also need it to emit CO2 and fossil fuels. Many solutions in the past including green hydrogen have actively contributed to this problem. With this, I propose Pink Hydrogen. When renewable energy sources are employed for electrolysis, pink hydrogen is created without releasing carbon dioxide (CO2) or other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Pink hydrogen production offers a clean and sustainable alternative to conventional hydrogen production techniques, which frequently rely on fossil fuels and produce large emissions. Electrolysis, the process of splitting water molecules is used via water, making it very accessible to the vast majority. For countries without a proper water source can have extension and are able to use it from the ocean. This also makes this project open towards small islands including my own island of Guam. Using pink hydrogen as a fuel source for these vehicles eliminates tailpipe emissions, reducing the carbon footprint of transportation and improving air quality in urban areas. It will also positively impact the industrial process by decarbonizing specific sectors. Pink Hydrogen can also be used in building infrastructure for heating, cooling, and electricity generation, providing a clean alternative to natural gas and other fossil fuels. My specific plan is to create a farm in rural areas of different countries in which we can tap into a water source to be able to produce pink hydrogen. Since Pink hydrogen is recyclable that will be its maintenance and storage. To distribute hydrogen to customers, the farm would need a network of pipelines or tanker trucks capable of transporting the gas to various locations.
This pink hydrogen farm can directly support everyone including low-income countries. For countries without a proper water source can have extension and are able to use it from the ocean. This also makes this project open towards small islands including my own island of Guam. This project is intended to preserve land sustainability for ALL. However in our early stages I am impacting Guam, a small island in the Pacific ocean for the testing phase. This solution can provide potential greener (or pinker :D) future for all.
The youth is the next generation to solve these global scaled issues, so we can start here. I know I will be able to pull through. I am able to make connections with and including the Govenor of Guam, Guam water authority and Guam Power Authority. I am able to speak with at least my whole island that we all believe we need a new system for sustainability. I along with a few others have done a community outreach on August 8,2023 to hear from our community on their opinions and ideas. This community outreach also helped spread our mission.
- Adapt cities to more extreme weather, including through climate-smart buildings, incorporating climate risk in infrastructure planning, and restoring regional ecosystems.

This project idea was presented to the governor of my island who took in our idea and agrees with it's potential to further it. We currently can work on implementing it in our island by partnering with Guam water authority and Guam power authority. This research lasted a good 6 months with a blueprint already made in place. Since a design was achieved, all I would need is the financial capability to implement. I along with a few others have also done a community outreach to hear from our community.
It also started with my mission to improve my island's sustainability and preservation. I 100% believe that pink hydrogen can help preserve my island and help reduce carbon footprint. However, I soon realized this project can help people globally if implemented well. I hope solve can help me advance my project on a global/national scale and implement my prototypes. I am currently in high school so I would need guidance but I definitely trust in this solution for a greener (or pinker :D) earth!

When you think of solutions to my issue, green hydrogen or fossil fuels probably come to mind. Pink hydrogen is an entirely different and relatively new energy source. Unlike the past solutions, it is recyclable and can use water a source we are surrounded upon. We can utilize land space for a farm that in return helps preserve our land. It could change our market, as the demand for green hydrogen might decrease and if Pink hydrogen proves to be successful can be the new solution.
The cost of reversing pollution annually is $300 billion to $50 trillion (From the United Nations Environment Program). Thinking ahead of time will spare the earth the environmental conflicts in due time and will ultimately give us a greener future. We still have time to slow down climate change so finding a solution needs to be done as soon as possible. Pink hydrogen will definitely have an impact because of its recyclable properties making it usable over and over again unlike other solutions where they are irreversible. While specific statistics on pink hydrogen may be limited, ongoing research, pilot projects, and commercial deployments are expected to generate more data and insights into its potential benefits in the coming years. As the technology matures and scales up, it is anticipated to play a significant role in transitioning to a low-carbon, sustainable energy future.
- Impact Goal: work with governor to implement funding deadline: may 30,2023
Implement final prototype Deadline: July 15,2024
Implement and testing phase Deadline: May, 2025
Introducing to other countries : Deadline: November 2025
Manufacturing engineering as it heavily is based on physical production, including hydrogen farm, storage unit, . However, it will need to be researched in a lab with those experienced in chemical engineering. Since pink hydrogen is relatively new it will have to go through several and several testing phases.

Individual work
Yearly cost for nuclear energy in 2023 - 2026 manufacturing
($29.13hrs of nuclear energy x 8hrs x 365 days) = $85,059.60 per year
$85,059.60 x 3 (years) = $255,177 cost for 3 years of research
$255,177 x $3 (cost of pink hydrogen rounded up)
= $765,531 cost of pink hydrogen manufacturing.
As more research is developed for pink hydrogen, the cost will decrease
