Climate change misinformation continues to deceive far too many individuals, a concerning reality highlighted by findings from the African Centre for Media Excellence (A.C.M.E), more precisely with reference to research by (Biddlestone & van der Linden, 2021) involving 1,700 UK adults, reveals a troubling trend where nearly half of the respondents struggled to discern fake climate change news headlines. Alarmingly, misinformation persists, with 46% holding the false belief that scientists disagree on the cause of climate change.
The study highlighted a lack of trust in certain sources of climate change information, with academics (67%) and personal networks (59%) being the most trusted. This distrust extended to politicians (20%), social media outlets (7%), and tabloid newspapers (13%).
Despite widespread concern about the impact of climate change misinformation, many respondents admitted to rarely fact-checking the information they consume, with 24% reporting hardly ever fact-checking and this accounts to the factors and hesitation on the side of many to adopt eco-friendly practices.
The latest UN IPCC report calls out climate disinformation as the basis for the large disregard of risk and urgency to take sustainable climate actions and so there’s the need to amplify tales of climate justice, community engagement on eco-friendly practices.
This has become a global concern with many organizations including B.Inspired with Stories from Africa, making conscious effort to contribute to the collective goal of educating communities on the rising concern about climate changes since it has shifted from abstract threats on the news to increasingly common presence in everyday life for which Ghana is no exception.
B.Inspired with Stories from Africa (B.ISA), aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG4) which focuses on access to quality education, is motivated by the mission to champion climate change advocacy and amplifying stories on social and environmental issues through storytelling. B.ISA’s dedication to addressing the increasing demand for accurate climate change information within The Ghanaian communities and fostering awareness about its impact, particularly on marginalized communities who are often disproportionately affected. B.ISA is making the conscious effort to contribute to increasing awareness and concerns on dealing with inequalities and social justice on the part of marginalized communities with fewer resources in Africa and across the globe B.ISA aimed to contribute to dealing with misinformation and polarization through climate change education on the need for communities to adapt to sustainable solutions because marginalized communities across Africa are often fed with information that is available from mass media advertised for political gains and bureaucracy. Hence, we educate, empower and elevate the marginalized community to paint the real picture of challenges that span across environmental and economic growth. We are keen on empowering these communities with information and enabling them by nurturing them with education, training to open up opportunities to build the future workforce to make a difference in various sectors across the continent.
B.ISA seeks to contribute to the need to amplify tales on climate change through our media engagement and outreaches, youth empowerment programmes, and webinars to encourage behavioral change by sharing compelling stories on climate and social justice and empowering communities through community dialogue to empower local communities to take ownership of climate solutions. This will promote recycling mindset, renewable energy adoption, sustainable agricultural practices, and green technology, which will not only address environmental challenges but also stimulate economic opportunities.
By embarking on community and media outreaches, youth empowerment programmes, webinars and publishing of climate change stories and its impacts globally, we will exposed our audience to green job opportunities because people will start developing the recycling mindset, they large audience will start thinking towards renewable energy, sustainable agricultural practices and adopting green technology which contributes the global concerns of dealing with environmental, economic challenges and climates misinformation
Our solution seeks to serve marginalized communities in Ghana by providing access to accurate information about climate change and its impact. According to (Climate Change and Its Effects on Social, Political, and Economic Development in Africa, Kristina Müller-Kuckelberg, 2022), there's an urgent need for education in addressing the challenges posed by climate change, particularly in vulnerable regions in Ghana. As global temperatures continue to rise, weather extremes such as droughts, floods, and cyclones are becoming more frequent and intense, leading to insecure living conditions, food shortages, and forced migration. The impacts of climate change are already being felt, with Ghana facing significant risks due to the reliance on rain-fed agriculture and limited capacity to adapt to changing climatic conditions.
Education will play a crucial role in empowering Ghanaian communities to understand and respond to the effects of climate change. By raising awareness about the causes and consequences of global warming, we aim to foster a sense of responsibility and urgency in tackling this pressing issue. We seek to equip young individuals through youth empowerment programmes with the knowledge and skills needed to implement adaptation strategies and mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change on agriculture, food security, and livelihoods. Ultimately education through community dialogue is a key tool in building resilience and promoting sustainable development in the face of climate change and we seek to serve the marginalized communities in Ghana access to quality education and information on climate change. through community engagement, youth employment programmes, webinars and media outreaches.

We are applying to Solve because we believe that our mission to engage communities across Africa in social and environmental issues aligns with Solve's commitment to supporting solutions that are scalable, sustainable, and impactful. At B.Inspired with Stories from Africa, we face several specific barriers that we hope Solve can help us overcome, through strategic partnerships and expertise rather than just funding.
1. Technical Barriers: While our storytelling and community engagement efforts have been successful, we encounter technical limitations in terms of digital infrastructure and data management. We aim to enhance our digital outreach and engagement platforms to better collect, analyze, and utilize data for more targeted interventions. Solve’s access to cutting-edge technology and expertise can help us develop these technical capabilities, ensuring that our digital tools are as effective and impactful as our on-the-ground efforts.

Legal expertise within Solve's network could guide us in complying with local regulations, securing necessary permits, and engaging with governmental bodies more effectively. This support would streamline our operations and increase our project's scalability and sustainability across borders.
3. Cultural Barriers: Our work involves diverse communities with unique cultural backgrounds. To ensure our solutions are culturally sensitive and widely accepted, we seek to deepen our understanding of these varied cultural landscapes. Solve's global network could provide access to local knowledge and cultural experts who can advise on crafting messages and programs that resonate within specific cultural contexts, thereby increasing community acceptance and participation.
4. Market Barriers: Expanding our reach and influence often means understanding and entering new markets with our community-focused projects. Market insights from Solve's diverse global network would be invaluable in identifying new geographic areas and community clusters where our interventions could be beneficial. This would also involve understanding the economic dynamics of these regions to tailor our approaches to different economic environments.
Partnership and Network Opportunities: Beyond addressing these barriers, we are eager to tap into Solve's vibrant ecosystem of leaders, innovators, and change-makers. This network is not just a resource but a collaborative platform where we can share insights, learn from successes and setbacks alike, and form strategic alliances that enhance our capacity to serve and impact.
In summary, our application to Solve is driven by the desire to leverage Solve’s ecosystem to refine our approach, overcome existing challenges, and significantly enhance the scope and impact of our work. We see Solve not just as a funding source, but as a crucial partner in our journey to create lasting social and environmental change in African communities.
