Patents have been considered as value drivers of economy and organizations. However, a large number of patents remain unutilized and enormous amount of money is wasted in the US as well as other regions of the world for patent protection. We believe that if we are able to simulate carbon emissions for every patent in this world, the benefits are the following:

1. Investors and Company management can choose to invest in patents having low carbon emission.

2. Patent portfolio valuation can be done based on indexing the patents on their carbon emission value.

3. Patent utilization increases leading to responsible investing.

We are providing a platform where corporations and institutions can upload patents, simulate and calculate carbon emission per patent, and generate reports. The platform is intended to be a SAAS model, allowing end users to simulate carbon emission on their own. We also provide consultancy for the same, if the customer requires.

The tool can be used by, but not limited to corporations, institutions, universities, individual inventors across the world. This can be used by patent offices across the world. Further, sustainability rating organizations can use our scoring of companies based on low carbon patents, as a data set in rating organizations. Furthermore, venture capital and private equity firms can rate their investee companies.

My partner Deepak has a technology background and is hands on when it comes to AI implementation. We intend to overlay AI on top of our solution so that customers can easily integrate carbon emission calculation to their patent portfolios. With by background in patent service industry for more than 15 years, and with the support of MIT, we believe together we can change the way the world will view patents and R&D investments.

We built a POC to take feedback from the global IP community. The feedback that we received was very encouraging and positive. Almost, all of them said this is a new concept and they have never thought in this direction. One global IP head of a shipping company said this will help him to rank the patents filed in a particular year and also increase the value of patents.

At the POC stage, the carbon calculation was manually entered. We are integrating third party tool to automate the carbon calculation and will release this as MVP before take it to pilot deployment.

Some of the feedback that we received is that we need to launch this in the US so that the world take notice and remove market barriers. Solve will be the best platform to launch this, because of the networking opportunities and the reach to capital.
