The GreenVenture Impact Academy leadership course is divided into four modules, each focusing on a different aspect of spiritual ecology, mitigating climate change and food security. The course begins with the First Module exploring the concept of spiritual ecology and its importance in creating spaces of renewal, reciprocity, and reverence. Participants will delve into the interconnectedness of ecological, cultural, and spiritual renewal and how they can apply these principles in their work in social and environmental fields.
This module will also focus on food security, emphasizing the importance of sustainable food systems based on social justice and democratic decision-making. Participants will explore food-related health and education issues, food policy, environmental sustainability, human rights, and strategies for alleviating food insecurity. They will also learn about the role of indigenous peoples in shaping food systems and the concept of food sovereignty.
The course will then move on to the second module with practical techniques for creating productive, restorative, and eco-friendly edible landscapes. Participants will learn about food forestry, agroforestry, polycultures, and monocultures, as well as techniques for incorporating edibles into their landscapes. The third section of the course, participants will learn about the role of civil society organizations and public sector agencies in addressing food issues both in Canada and worldwide. The course instructors, who have international experience in the field, will guide participants through discussions on food availability, accessibility, adequacy, and acceptability in the context of historical and current Indigenous food systems.
The course will also cover different types of urban agriculture and the motivations and methods employed by different people in practicing urban agriculture. Participants will learn about entrepreneurial approaches to urban agriculture, including social enterprises, and will explore the role of gender and sustainability in urban agriculture practices. Business planning and managing community relations will also be covered in the course modules.
Finally in the fourth module participants will have the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills gained throughout the course in a practical setting by starting their own ecologically sustainable business. This course culminates in EcoTree, where participants will learn the steps and requirements for starting a sustainable business from where they are currently. This course will empower emerging leaders to apply the principles of spiritual ecology and food security in creating sustainable and equitable food systems in their communities.
