The built environment, a cornerstone of modern life, harbors a hidden threat: inefficient air filtration. While filtration systems are crucial for healthy indoor air quality (IAQ), they often come at a significant cost. This challenge is particularly pressing in a post-pandemic world where heightened awareness of airborne contaminants demands better solutions.
The Problem We're Tackling:
- Ineffective Filtration: Traditional filters prioritize energy efficiency by sacrificing filtration capability. This trade-off leaves people exposed to harmful contaminants, impacting health, especially in light of COVID-19 concerns.
- Energy vs. Health Dilemma: Post-pandemic demands necessitate better filtration, but thicker filters often require increased energy consumption (≥18%) and costly infrastructure upgrades. This creates a barrier to achieving healthier indoor air.
- Unequal Access to Clean Air: Inefficient and expensive filtration technologies disproportionately impact underserved communities, leaving them vulnerable to airborne pollutants and respiratory illnesses.
The Result:
- ~7 million deaths annually are linked to poor indoor air quality globally, highlighting the inadequacy of existing HVAC filtration systems.
- ~15% global emission is caused by HVAC alone and almost 8-10% of our electricity demand stems from HVAC filter highlighting the energy and emission intensive nature of HVAC filters, which would go up by 18% or more if thicker HVAC filters are used.
- Existing infrastructure can’t handle thicker HVAC filter, which requires costly system upgrade.
This creates an urgent need for a new paradigm in air filtration: We need a solution that delivers cleaner air without compromising energy efficiency, existing infrastructure, or affordability for all communities. Cabomba's technology paves the way for a future where buildings naturally breathe clean air, reducing reliance on expensive air purifiers and democratizing access to healthy indoor environments. We are committed to creating a win-win scenario for people and the planet, ensuring clean air for all without compromising on energy efficiency or affordability in the HVAC market.
Imagine an air filter that:
- Captures 99.9% of even the tiniest contaminants, including viruses.
- Uses 50% less energy than traditional filters.
- Easily installs into your existing HVAC system – no specialist needed.
That's the power of Cabomba NanoAir, our revolutionary nanotechnology HVAC filter solution.
How it Works (high level overview):
Traditional filters trap dust and particles like a sieve. Smaller pores catch smaller particles, but they also restrict airflow, forcing your HVAC system to work harder, using more energy.
Cabomba's secret lies in nanotechnology. We use specially engineered materials with an incredibly large surface area, like a microscopic sponge. This allows Cabomba NanoAir to:
- Attract and capture even the smallest contaminants using a natural force called van der Waals interaction.
- Maintain a relatively open structure for easy airflow, reducing energy consumption.
In depth science:
Standard HVAC filter only captures through pore size modulation, the mechanism of which can be described as the following-
Standard HVAC filters have pore size ~ 2- 10 μm and can efficiently capture particle ≥ 2 μm with acceptable pressure drop. However, capturing sub-micron particles (e.g.- virus, microbes) require sub-micron pore size, which can only be done by making the filter thicker. This results in very high pressure drop.
Our nanotech-based filter uses both mechanism- (a) pore size modulation and (b) molecular force (van de Waals). Our engineered structure using nano material layers allows-
- Superior capture efficiency owing to higher surface area to volume ratio
- Very high permeability ➜ lower pressure drop (∆p)This to capture contaminants.
These allow us to use an open architecture in HVAC filters resulting in 50% or less energy demand but capture of 99.9% of small contaminants. In one of our sample design, we are able to achieve HEPA standard at 25% of energy demand of HEPA filter making them suitable to use in existing HVAC infrastructure while achieving best indoor air quality possible.
Benefits for Everyone:
- Improved Health: Cleaner indoor air means fewer respiratory illnesses and a healthier environment for everyone.
- Energy Savings: Lower energy consumption translates to lower utility bills and a smaller carbon footprint.
- Easy Installation: No need to replace your entire HVAC system. Cabomba NanoAir seamlessly integrates with existing infrastructure.
Beyond HVAC:
While we're initially focusing on HVAC filters, the science behind Cabomba NanoAir has the potential to revolutionize filtration across other industries – water purification, food processing, and more. By reducing energy consumption and improving filtration efficiency, Cabomba can help create a cleaner, healthier future for all.

Cabomba NanoAir is more than just an air filter; it's a catalyst for change. It has the potential to transform the air filtration market by setting a new standard for efficiency, energy savings, and accessibility. By prioritizing both clean air and a healthy planet, Cabomba NanoAir can create a ripple effect of positive change across the cleantech landscape and beyond.
Poor indoor air quality (IAQ) is a significant global health concern, leading to respiratory illnesses, reduced productivity, and increased healthcare costs. Underserved communities are disproportionately affected due to lack of access to high-quality air filtration. The only way to improve IAQ is to use HVAC filter with higher MERV rating (13 and higher). These filters are significantly more expensive to buy, require tremendous amount of energy and causes emission 18% or higher in comparison to standard HVAC filters. The poor IAQ compounded by cost and environmental impact of high efficiency filters (MERV 13+) disproportionately affects disadvantaged population in US by affecting health and decarbonization strategy.
Cabomba NanoAir, a revolutionary nanotechnology-based air filter, addresses this gap by capturing 99.9% all pollutants in air at energy demand of 50% or lower than standard filter reaching the standard of HEPA filter (exceeding MERV 13 standards).

Our solution is a proprietary nanotech-enabled HVAC filter that can- filter 99.9% of any small sized contaminants from air that others can’t @50% or less energy demand. The HVAC filter can be installed into existing HVAC infrastructure without any additional knowledge curve. Our nanomaterials’ molecular attraction force along with smart composite design allows us to keep our filter relatively open causing lower pressure while maintaining higher capture efficiency. A deeper insight can be described as the following.
