PROJECT CARBON LOCK (PCL)
- Singapore
- For-profit, including B-Corp or similar models
The reality of single use plastics (SUP) is its practicality of use but there is a lack of environmental accountability after their use.
In the last decade, we see bans against SUP but unfortunately the results are not up to expectations, see links:

This is what is commonly known as; the law of unintended consequences.
Project Carbon Lock (PCL) by OOSH is an innovative way where we hold ourselves accountable for the management of SUP rather than demonizing them. Just like weapons, its ultimate purpose depends on the intentions of its user. In and by itself, it is not a bad product to begin with.
OOSH produces a range of high biobased SUP, certified in USA, for the food service sector. Our high biobased content products see a drastic reduction in our dependency on fossil fuels during production and this saves CO2 emissions from the onset. Through PCL, our products are collected back for upcycling into brand new and valuable products such as park benches, architectural facades, door stoppers.
This end of life (EOL) exercise ensures that the packaging we put out will be diverted from local incinerators or landfills, hence locking away carbon emissions for good. This is our definition of a truly eco friendly product but more importantly, the final upcycled product will all be accounted for and made known to consumers who bothered to recycle. This will be a game changer to the current dismal rates of recycling; for one can finally see the fruit of their recycling efforts unlike the past.

This is the time to reinvent the wheel of recycling.
As the first company in the world, probably, to introduce such a solution, our products not only reduces carbon footprints from cradle to grave but develops a good secondary market for upcycling. Upcycling has low job entry barriers and will create job opportunities in developing countries to counteract plastic pollution, where plastic pollution usually runs rampant. Aloysius is the founder of OOSH in Singapore and USA. Backed with 15 years of field experience and its related industries such as F&B, machining, raw material formulation, he leads the team in appreciating the demands of the business and the bells and whistles needed to warrant a compelling uptake.

We have done PCL Phase 1 in Singapore and is well received. All unit economics are checked and we are ready to launch Phase 2 in Singapore and abroad. PCL is a modular, quick and easy to scale solution. We aim to expand to 30 countries in the next 10 years .
We need connections in each country more than anything else, partners who share the same vision as us. Funds will come when we get the product right.

- Human Capital (e.g. sourcing talent, board development)

Current eco friendly SUP are generally paper or pulp based, seen to be so due to their organic make up and compostable / biodegradable nature. Though organic (provided there is no layer of plastic within or too heavily colored), it does not change the fact that these products will still be incinerated or landfilled at its end of life (EOL) since the latter methods are by the far most commonly adopted ones globally due to cost considerations, in comparison to industrial composting where such compostables are meant for to begin with. Furthermore, there is a growing resistance against compostable products added to the mix since they add no nutrients to the final compost as compared to yard clippings and greens, see link: https://www.ecoenclose.com/blo...
Our material is innovative for it is a hybrid: part biobased and part plastic. The biobased, organic part of our product means we are using a good proportion of renewables during production, hence a smaller carbon footprint. The plastic component helps guarantee sound functionality and up-cyclability of the product after discard. Most importantly, carbon emissions will be locked away for good or at least a life time when the waste SUP are diverted from landfills and incinerators to be upcycled.
PCL allows F&B businesses to enjoy the convenience and costs efficiencies of SUP without the guilt. It ensures unnecessary operational costs do not get passed on to customers. The upcycling of waste SUP into brand new products, tracked and made visible, can definitely supercharge recycling efforts for all who bothered to do their part in recycling as compared to yesteryears.
We will be logging the weight of SUP produced and upcycled in the short term. Once we have the experience and traction, we be working with accredited 3rd party organization to improve and expand the data collected, Life Cycle Analysis is one of them. Such data will complement ESG objectives for all.
The upcycling process of PCL is done via our network of upcycling partners locally where we supply a consistent and clean source of waste SUP for their upcycling works. Labor which was once deployed to source and clean waste can now be better engaged in more productive work which translates into better wages and this is especially true in developing countries.

PCL relies heavily on collective synergies from collection to processing and upcycling. It is this diversity of strengths that defines PCL.
- OOSH products reduces the carbon footprints of B2B and B2C upon usage.
- OOSH products ensures F&B continue to enjoy the benefits of SUP without passing on unnecessary costs in today's rising cost of living.
- OOSH Project Carbon Lock diverts waste from landfills and incinerators, locking away carbon emissions.
- Providing job opportunities for local communities to gain meaningful employment in upcycling works.
- Provides a clear oversight on upcycling results to boost motivations in recycling efforts.
- Organizations (B2B)
OOSH and PCL are already profitable and we wish to share this globally.
