Eco-Rural Library

I am by myself. The concept is that each person has a responsibility to be part of the solution based on some conviction. I hope I can go this way, and probably an org joins in the future. Sometimes project should be undertaken by individual Initiatives to secure consistency and focus.

My project targets a region called Goulmima( or Ghriss) about 60 km far from the city of Errachidia in the south east of Morocco. The region under focus is a place for a beautiful heaven on earth of around 42000 ha, an oasis ( Ghriss- Ferkla oasis) of palm and olive trees. I heard stories of fish being there once upon a time. Now the valley of Ghriss is dry, and the situation doesn't seem encouraging. About 20 km from Goulmima, Tinjedad city had already been beaten by the dry weather, killing most of its oasis. Is this not sufficient someone, anyone cares. Care is not the responsibility of official authorities only. It's one reason why I care and most reason why I should be supported.

According to the org I intiativesclimat, temperature in the region will escalate between the years 2030-2050 due to climate change, which will affect water resources and agriculture that are already problematic. This will naturally have socio economic consequences on a population already considered delicate and poor. The population count to about 16500 ( Goulmima 2014) where most it's young category live outside the town leaving it to younger/ teenagers and old people. The latter being mostly in charge of the lands. 

Problem has to with climate change and also of a relative ignorance of how to deal with the situation or how to get ready for the worst, hence my project idea of an Educational Institute in the middle of the Problem.

I want to be part of the solution, not just a viewer or even a curser of it. My project is idea is of a rural environmental library that will target young people in special and all the population in general on how to care more about their land. As the situation is getting alarming, education can be a most sustainable solution to the situation. My project idea has much of a Symbol than the tangible project itself. I want anyone to utter the word or see the project to think " I must care about the plant( my land)".

In a time of mass technology, I formation tech will utilized as of eco tech in building itself as of minimizing energy, water and waste to the minimum. The materials to be provided will be electronic resources as well as paper ones. The vision is basically clear but I still need some details as I go through other experiences worldwide.

I intend the solution for all human race. The concept can be free for replication. I heavily believe in the motto" Work Locally, but think Globally". That is still true because the target place is a touristic place where tourists take the way from Errachidia to Marrakech and other touristic places. The city has a big young population of students who will be the most targeted population as a way  to inves in human capital in the future.

I am by myself. I believe others will join me when some milestone is set. I want to start from Action before word to convince others to join . 

I have been a teacher since 2003 now. And I think I have much of the experience, the motivation and the commitment to start and run the project. I hope my organization ( ministry of education) helps in making this dream a truth.

I think I am in the prototype stage. I already have a rural house in my possession. The house of 145 m square, is situated in the middle of a palm tree oasis. What I just need are legal procedures and fund to rebuilding the project into its intended objective.

I already have the place of project. I could have strated it since 2017. Bust since I lack funding, then nothing is on the horizon. Frankly I many times feel down about this dream because I fail to convince other parties to join or adopt my project including the ministry in charge of the environment or even the local authorities. I made contact but were in vain. Aside, money I will need training on how to lead the project in a professional way.

Does the problem of climate change concern entities only? Should we rely on officials alone to undertake projects and campaign to save us? I say no. The approach I adopt is that  We are all concerned and we All should take action. The concept of my project is how much people as Individuals can do something for our planet and the people on it. The second inner approach is the project itself that should stand as an icon for change. I want people to change their mindscape toward the care of the environment just by encountering the physical site, let alone what it will provide or do. It should stand as a center or Environmental Station to lead people to a saver planet.

The main purpose is to spread the education and culture of caring about the environment and animals. I am in the know that reading rate is very low in Morocco but this is a result of some factors, which will be addressed in due time with minute attention especially the one pertaining to Quality of materials and service. 

What I want to achieve is not really complicated. The thing I have in mind is really Symbolic. Results are measured by numbers and this is important. But for my project idea, the paramount objective is that all people must know that there is an Ecological Library in some specific place. So the secret is making connections to adopt green behaviors if people see it or hear about. 

Success of the project for me is when people adopt some techniques used in the library in their homes and when they change their behaviors to be greener and more environment friendly. Practically, success means when I see more ecological libraries with my measures spreading in other places in the country and the world with people attending them. So in general, we may get these results:

There will be more environmentally educated people in the region.

Natural resources and energy will be used more efficiently.

Animal rights will be better more considered and protected than they are now.

Some job opportunities will be created; out of some art/ culture and recycling activities.

 I have been in  contact with Mark McCaffrey who has shown interest in my project and this might end with a collaboration especially that he is the key leader in  project ECOS--Education, Communication and Outreach Stakeholders--a new UNFCCC Community

I aim to reach something similar. Not just a rural library but an Ecology Station. The impact should cover all the population of the region and should set a role model for other places to do the same. All natural sites should have environmental stations to help people lead a safer life in the present and the future. Likewise more individuals should take Initiatives to do something for their societies. There is this moral responsibility to the project over all.

I believe that the protection of environment and saving ourselves from the effects climate change are what all humanity should be concerned about now . For this reason I thought of doing something. 

The project will be based on green technology in implementation like water and energy efficiencies and will provide only materials on ecology and the environment.

Along with environmental education, I am thinking of an art project in terms of photography gallery for the young people of the region to sell photos and earn money. I will also encourage recycling things or making products out of natural materials. These will mostly target women who will guarantee another source of money.

There will be other activities annexed  like providing clean energy charging, clean cooking ,and with time, even public laundry especially for women.

I hope to help people lead a green and clean activities in living and protecting our environment.

Frankly this question is very discouraging for me. Almost all project calls ask for teams to apply, but my concept is the other way. I need to start alone, then make a team. I can't still find a like-minded person who share my vision, and I believe this is just because of lack of communication that people don't know about it. I feel things will change once the project launches.

The project idea has started in 2011. It is only in 2018 that I bought the place of project( rural house of 145 square). From then, I can't yet secure funding the project to find light.

I am very open to internationalization. I got even help to write this project paper from an ex Peacecorps volunteer in Morocco. I will spread the concept of the project worldwide for any expected collaborators. This will include all genders and nationalities.

The project idea targets all people, but I think teachers and students of natural sciences will be most more interested. I am also thinking of tourists to visit and then the project will help in promoting responsible tourism. It will address women and artisans too as there will be a facility for them to sell their natural products. Youth will also be targeted by an art gallery by which they can exhibit and sell their art productions. 

To be frank, I will be targeting the state to adopt the project for future days. Sometimes, you just need to be noticed so that you can go on. In any case, the project will depend also on donations or voluntary fees of beneficiaries. For advanced objectives, the project will have its own products to sell for more financial aid. After all, I intend it all as a Donation to the planet and mostly the services will be free.
