Worlds first "carbon-negative" protein concentrate for the plant based food industry
- United States
- For-profit, including B-Corp or similar models
1. Feed a growing World with lower priced food thats healthier and better for the environment
2. Contribute to solving climate change with a better product at a lower price
The world needs approximately 360 million metric tons of protein per year to feed our growing population. Because our world is getting richer, demand for meat is growing. The production of meat requires considerably more arable land to plant the food needed to grow the crops to feed to the cows as they grow. This is putting a constraint on the total amount of arable land we have on this earth, which is driving up the cost of cropland and the marginal cost of all food. In addition, the production of any ruminant like cows produces both a large carbon footprint and enteric methane, which is a very harmful greenhouse gas. We have developed a solution where we grow a ultra high protein, clonally propagated red seaweed called dulse in advanced tanks on non-arable land, which is 20 times more efficient than soy production on a square meter basis, extract the proteins on a continuous basis to feed to the cattle, extract the bromoform to feed as a cattle food supplement which nearly eliminates the methane production, and the balance we convert into bio char, which is a soil supplement and permanently removes carbon from the atmosphere.
We have mastered the ability to grow a high protein, clonally propogated strain of dulse seaweed on-land in tanks at scale that is 20 time more efficient than soybean production and it doesn't need arable land, fresh water, farm machinery, chemicals and fertilizers.
We used advanced tank design, a proprietary bubbling system to agitate the seaweed, a proprietary hydraulic mechanism to increase carbon dioxide absorption, and a proprietary approach to extracting the proteins and bromoform on a continuous basis
Our technology will be able to meet the worlds protein demand with better products at lower prices while simultaneously reducing humans carbon footprint on this planet. Regardless of wealth or social status, every human on earth needs approximately 50 grams of protein per day to live.Reducing the cost of food production while simultaneously reducing the amount of carbon dioxide and methane produced by food production will help all humanity equally.
The world is on an unsustainable path of food production and this solution corrects that problem and serves all humans equally.
We pioneered all the techniques of growing and processing needed to accomplish this. Currently we are serving the Oregon coast communities with various products created with this new commodity. A great tasting low carbon product that is priced competitive with legacy terrestrial commodities like soy, wheat and corn helps the entire world.
We have identified all of the non arable land in the world near oceans with a lot of sunlight and we can produce enough protein to feed the entire world in a geography the size of Connecticut.
- Enable a low-carbon and nutritious global food system, across large and small-scale producers plus supply chains that reduce food loss.

- Pilot
We are the largest on-land seaweed farm in the United States. We have growing this strain of seaweed for almost a decade and we have partners with pilot projects currently in Portugal and India.
We have produced and sold approximately 10 tons of this seaweed in many different applications, including fresh, dried and ingredients in pet food, candies, beer, and many other products.
We are seeking financial, cultural, and political help to break down the barriers of a highly mature, globally concentrated food system which currently exists in the form regulatory captured governments with perverse incentives, subsidies, etc.
