Homemade/self made sanitary pads

Low self-esteem of young girls who feel ashamed to buy sanitary pads from shop and lack of awareness and knowledge on the availability sanitary pads in the girls boarding school .The cost of modes is alarmingly increasing because of the raw materials imported from abroad and by now a single modes pack costs  $1 which consisted of 12 pcs that may uses for two days which is unthinkable for students mainly from the rural community. Therefore, they start using different closes which exposed them for infections and other illnesses.

Thus, if menstruation is not properly managed, it can result in health problems. Menstrual hygiene practices, such as, using ash or unclean old rags to absorb menstrual blood, especially if they are inserted into the vagina, can create easy access for infection to the cervix and the uterine cavity beside this prolonged use of sanitary materials can cause body odor and skin irritation, which also increases the risk of infection. 

Our solution creating awareness and knowledge about menstruation. Providing a short term training for school girls and their teachers on how to prepare home/self made pads.

Allow them to form as a girls club members/an association to produce, reach more, with affordable price and exempt students who unable to afford and collaborate with the nearby TVET college for more production to reach more school community with affordable price and accessible manner.

According to research conducted in Ghana, it demands no extra expense from their parents, boyfriends, or other social support, as they can be made their own by themselves, which is washable this resulted no school absenteeism ,no dropout  they attend their class regularly and perform well in their academic and become competent, better future.

Our target population is adolescent girls living in a boarding school apart from their parents and monthly back to their home to fulfill what they want in Southern Ethiopia.
