SRHRxMenstrual Hub
SRHRxMenstrual Hub is dedicated to addressing critical SRHR and MHM challenges in Nepal. Our mission focuses on empowering individuals through comprehensive support and education.
The problem we aim to solve is the lack of knowledge, awareness, and access to SRHR and MHM services in Nepal. This issue affects a significant portion of the population, especially women, girls, and marginalized communities, both within Nepal and globally.
In Nepal, SRHR and MHM are pressing concerns. UNFPA reports that only 41% of girls and women in Nepal use sanitary pads during menstruation. This low usage is due to multifaceted reasons, including cultural taboos, limited access, and financial constraints. Furthermore, 20% of girls in Nepal miss school during their menstrual cycle due to inadequate MHM facilities and cultural restrictions.
Teenage pregnancies are another major issue, with Nepal having one of the highest adolescent pregnancy rates in South Asia. Inadequate knowledge about SRHR, coupled with limited access to contraceptives and reproductive health services, contributes to this problem. According to UNICEF data, one in five girls in Nepal becomes pregnant before the age of 19.
In rural and remote areas, access to healthcare services, including those related to SRHR and MHM, is severely limited. This lack of access leads to maternal health challenges and a higher incidence of STIs among these communities.
While our primary focus is Nepal, the issues related to SRHR and MHM are global. The challenges of inadequate MHM, teenage pregnancies, limited access to SRHR information and services, and cultural stigmatization of menstruation are not unique to Nepal.
Globally, millions of women and girls face these issues, which can have life-altering consequences. The lack of access to SRHR and MHM services contributes to maternal mortality, child marriages, and overall gender inequalities. The UNFPA estimates that approximately 500 million women and girls worldwide lack access to adequate MHM facilities, and 214 million women have an unmet need for modern contraception.
Our solution directly addresses these challenges. We provide comprehensive education, awareness, and support for individuals in Nepal, ensuring they have the knowledge and resources to make informed choices about their SRHR and MHM. By breaking down barriers, reducing stigma, and offering access to essential services and products, we work towards improving the well-being and choices of women, girls, and marginalized communities. Our programs aim to empower individuals, foster a society characterized by well-being and equality, and ensure that SRHR and MHM are rights, not privileges.
The scale of the problem, both within Nepal and globally, is significant. Our solution aims to make a tangible impact in addressing these pressing issues. We believe that by providing education, support, and access to resources, we can contribute to creating a world where all individuals have the knowledge, resources, and agency to achieve optimal SRHR and MHM, fostering well-being, equality, and informed choices. Our work is driven by the belief that these are fundamental rights, not privileges, and we are dedicated to creating meaningful change in the lives of individuals, not just in Nepal but globally.
SRHRxMenstrual Hub is a comprehensive and accessible one-stop solution dedicated to empowering individuals with the knowledge, resources, and support they need for optimal SRHR and MHM. Our solution is built upon education, awareness, and access, fostering informed choices and overall well-being.
This is a platform that offers a range of programs and services centered around SRHR and MHM. We conduct educational workshops, disseminate informative materials, and provide online resources to raise awareness about SRHR and MHM. Our core objective is to create a world where every individual has the knowledge, resources, and agency to achieve optimal SRHR and MHM.
What We Do:
1. Education and Awareness: We provide workshops, webinars, and educational materials that cover a wide range of topics, including the anatomy of the female reproductive system, the menstrual cycle, common menstrual hygiene myths, and the importance of maintaining good hygiene. These educational sessions are delivered interactively, encouraging participants to ask questions, engage in discussions, and clarify doubts.
2. Access and Support: We collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure equitable access to SRHR and MHM services. This includes making affordable menstrual products available and offering a space for individuals seeking support and guidance. Access to healthcare and menstrual products is a fundamental part of our solution.
3. Advocacy and Policy Influence: SRHRxMenstrual Hub is dedicated to advocating for policies that protect and advance the rights and well-being of individuals in the areas of SRHR and MHM. We actively collaborate with organizations and policymakers to drive policy changes, reduce stigma, and ensure equitable access to essential services.
4. Research and Data Collection: To better inform programs and policies, we conduct research and collect data on SRHR and MHM issues. This research forms the basis of evidence-based programs and reports that contribute to the global knowledge base on these topics.
5. Community Engagement: We engage with communities, especially in rural and remote areas, to foster open dialogues, challenge taboos, and reduce the stigma surrounding SRHR and MHM. Our approach includes launching awareness campaigns and supporting community-led peer education programs.
6. Partnerships and Networking: Collaborating with local and international organizations, healthcare providers, and stakeholders is key to our solution. We aim to create a supportive network that shares best practices and resources, enabling us to maximize the impact of our initiatives.
7. Impact Assessment: Regular evaluations and data analysis are essential for us to assess the effectiveness and impact of our programs and services. We continuously refine our strategies to ensure they meet the needs of our target communities.
8. Sustainability and Growth: Developing sustainable funding models is essential for the long-term viability of our organization. We plan to expand the reach and scope of our activities to serve more communities effectively.
Technology Used:
Our solution primarily utilizes standard communication and educational technologies such as video conferencing for webinars and educational materials in various formats (videos, documents, infographics). We leverage online resources and databases for research and data collection, making the most of available technology to inform our evidence-based programs.
SRHRxMenstrual Hub serves diverse populations across Nepal, focusing on those often underserved in terms of SRHR and MHM. Our target populations include:
1. Adolescents and Young Adults: Adolescents, aged 10-19, and young adults, aged 20-35, are our primary focus. These age groups often face challenges in accessing accurate information and affordable menstrual products, leading to unintended pregnancies, unsafe abortions, and a lack of control over their well-being.
2. Menstruators of All Genders: We are inclusive of all individuals who menstruate, regardless of gender identity. This includes cisgender women, transgender men, non-binary individuals, and anyone who experiences menstruation.
3. Rural and Remote Communities: These areas often lack access to quality healthcare services and essential menstrual products. Lack of awareness and taboos around menstruation can be more pronounced in these regions, making SRHR and MHM particularly challenging.
4. Marginalized and Vulnerable Communities: This encompasses communities with limited access to education and healthcare. Vulnerable groups such as refugees, displaced populations, and low-income communities also face significant challenges in accessing SRHR and MHM services and information.
5. Educational and Healthcare Institutions: We collaborate with schools and healthcare facilities to provide educational programs, resources, and support services.
6. NGOs and Community-Based Organizations: We partner with organizations and community groups to promote the well-being of individuals.
Our solution impacts the lives of these individuals in several meaningful ways:
1. Empowerment: We empower adolescents and young adults with knowledge and resources to make informed choices about their SRHR and MHM, reducing the risk of unintended pregnancies and unsafe abortions.
2. Inclusivity: We foster an environment that respects diverse needs, reducing the stigma associated with menstruation and ensuring access to essential services.
3. Equitable Access: We ensure that rural, remote, and marginalized communities have equitable access to SRHR and MHM services, reducing health disparities.
4. Advocacy and Policy Influence: Our advocacy efforts lead to policy changes that protect and advance SRHR and MHM, creating a more inclusive and equitable society.
5. Community Well-Being: By addressing taboos, we foster open dialogues and reduce stigma, leading to improved community well-being.
6. Network Building: Our work with institutions and organizations creates a supportive network that can share resources, resulting in more comprehensive support for SRHR and MHM.
In summary, our solution aims to create a world where individuals have the knowledge, resources, and agency to achieve optimal SRHR and MHM, fostering a society characterized by well-being, equality, and informed choices.
The SRHRxMenstrual Hub team is exceptionally well-positioned to design and deliver solutions to the target population due to our unique proximity, deep engagement, and community-driven approach:
Proximity and Immersion:
- We have collectively dedicated six to seven years to working closely with marginalized communities in Nepal.
- Our team lead, Jyotsana, has lived in underserved areas as a Fellow at Teach For Nepal (TFN), teaching students and engaging with their families. This experience provided her with a first-hand understanding of the daily lives and challenges faced by these communities.
- Sarita's role at Unatti Foundation as a Social Worker and House Mother involved providing the highest quality of care, support, and education to girls living in the Unatti home. This experience allowed her to form strong connections with the children and gain insights into the challenges they face.
- Saru's work as a National Volunteer with Volunteer Initiative Nepal (VIN) involved conducting orientation programs in different communities and facilitating direct interactions with community members.
Personal Commitment:
- We don't view these communities as distant beneficiaries but as an extension of our family. Our commitment is deeply personal.
Co-Creation of Solutions:
- Our approach is built on the foundation of collaboration. We regularly hold community meetings, conduct focus group discussions, and gather feedback through surveys. We do not create solutions for the communities; we work with them to design solutions that address their unique challenges and needs.
Community-Driven Approach:
- Our primary strength lies in our community-driven approach. We do not impose solutions; we work with communities to understand their needs, strengths, and aspirations.
- We actively engage community members in shaping the design and implementation of our solutions, ensuring that they align with the communities' input, ideas, and agendas.
In summary, our team's ability to understand, engage with, and serve these communities effectively is rooted in our deep proximity and commitment to their well-being. We do not approach this work from a theoretical or academic perspective; we live within these communities, comprehensively understand their needs and challenges, and actively involve them in the co-creation of solutions. Our approach is centered around the realities, needs, and aspirations of the communities we serve.
- Strengthen the capacity and engagement of young innovators in the development, implementation and growth of solutions addressing their SRHR needs.

Our solution has currently served approximately 60 boys and girls through our Orientation on Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) and Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management (MHM) programs. Moreover, we've successfully provided training to over 10-12 young adults via our Basic workshops focused on SRHR and MHM, including Pad Making Training. Through strategic partnerships with two local NGOs, a school, and a college, we've been able to expand our reach within the community. In addition to our efforts, we've cultivated a substantial online presence with followers on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. This presence allows us to disseminate critical information related to SRHR and MHM to a broader audience, further extending our impact.
SRHRxMenstrual Hub's solution is innovative in several key ways:
1. Comprehensive and Inclusive Approach: We address the intersection of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) with Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management (MHM) in a comprehensive and inclusive manner. By recognizing that these issues are interconnected, we provide a holistic solution that addresses the needs of all individuals, regardless of their gender identity. This approach ensures that no one is left behind, fostering inclusivity, and respect for diverse experiences.
2. Empowering Individuals: Our solution empowers individuals by providing them with knowledge, resources, and practical skills. This empowerment enables informed choices and the ability to take control of their SRHR and MHM, ultimately promoting well-being and autonomy.
3. Reusable Pad-Making Training: Our reusable pad-making training is a hands-on approach that equips participants with the skills to create their own sustainable and cost-effective menstrual hygiene products. This innovative approach ensures access to affordable menstrual products and promotes environmental sustainability. By teaching participants how to make reusable pads, we are also reducing waste from disposable products and promoting eco-friendliness.
4. Interactive and Tailored Educational Modules: Our educational modules are designed to be interactive and tailored to different age groups and needs. Whether it's an orientation session for school students or advanced training for older individuals, we ensure that the content is engaging and informative. By making these sessions interactive and fun, we aim to break down taboos and create open dialogues about SRHR and MHM.
5. Collaboration and Networking: SRHRxMenstrual Hub actively seeks collaborations with other organizations and stakeholders working in this space. By fostering cross-sector collaboration, we aim to amplify the impact of our initiatives and promote collective efforts to address SRHR and MHM issues. This approach could catalyze broader positive impacts by creating a network of organizations and individuals dedicated to these critical issues.
6. Technology Integration: While our approach is primarily knowledge-based and skill-oriented, we leverage technology where relevant. We use online resources, videos, and interactive tools to enhance our educational sessions. Additionally, our social media platforms are used to disseminate information and engage with a broader audience.
7. Data-Driven Programs: We focus on data collection and research to inform our programs and policies. By conducting surveys and publishing research reports, we contribute to the global knowledge base on SRHR and MHM, paving the way for evidence-based interventions.
In summary, SRHRxMenstrual Hub's innovative approach lies in its comprehensive and inclusive strategy, empowering individuals with knowledge and skills, promoting sustainability through reusable pad-making training, creating engaging educational modules, fostering collaborations, and leveraging technology and data for informed decision-making. Our goal is to create lasting positive impacts and change the market by shifting the conversation around SRHR and MHM toward empowerment, inclusivity, and sustainability.
In the next year, SRHRxMenstrual Hub's primary impact goal is to extend our reach and deepen our impact in Nepal, while laying the foundation for international collaboration. Specifically, our impact goals for the next year include:
1. Increasing Awareness and Knowledge: Within the next year, we aim to reach at least 5,000 individuals, providing them with essential knowledge about SRHR and MHM. Through our orientation sessions, we will ensure that these individuals have a better understanding of their SRHR and MHM, reducing myths and stigma.
2. Skill Development: We intend to train a minimum of 500 participants in reusable pad-making in the next year. These individuals will be equipped with the skills to create their own sustainable menstrual hygiene products, which, in turn, will contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing waste.
3. Strengthening Local Networks: Within the next year, we aim to establish partnerships with at least five local NGOs and community-based organizations in Nepal. These collaborations will help us leverage the expertise and resources of other like-minded organizations, amplifying our impact.
4. Cross-Sector Collaboration: To promote cross-sector collaboration, we plan to engage with stakeholders from the healthcare, education, and policy sectors. By facilitating dialogues and cooperation, we aim to work towards policy changes that protect and advance SRHR and MHM rights.
To achieve these goals in the next year, we will continue to offer interactive and educational sessions, expand our online presence, and establish partnerships. We will also conduct research and data collection to inform our programs and policies.
Looking ahead to the next five years, our broader impact goals include:
1. Nationwide Reach: In the next five years, we aspire to reach every province and region in Nepal. This includes extending our presence to rural and remote areas, and ensuring that our initiatives benefit individuals across the country.
2. Expanding Internationally: We plan to collaborate with international organizations and extend our initiatives to countries facing similar SRHR and MHM challenges.
3. Sustainable Impact: Over the next five years, we aim to create a sustainable ecosystem where individuals have access to SRHR and MHM support, education, and resources independently. By building the capacity of local leaders and organizations, we aim to foster a self-sustaining model.
4. Policy Changes: Our long-term goal is to influence policy changes in Nepal and other countries, ensuring that SRHR and MHM are recognized as fundamental rights and that comprehensive education and support are accessible to all.
5. Reduction in Stigma: We plan to continue challenging taboos and reducing stigma around SRHR and MHM. We aim to create an environment where open dialogues about these topics are encouraged, particularly in schools and communities.
To achieve these long-term goals, we will focus on the following strategies: conducting more extensive research, forging international partnerships, engaging with governments and policymakers, and continuing to foster cross-sector collaborations. We believe that our innovative approach to SRHR and MHM, coupled with technology integration and data-driven programs, will help us realize these impact goals and create transformational change over the upcoming years.
Our theory of change is built upon the premise that informed and empowered individuals make healthier choices regarding their Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and menstrual health and hygiene management (MHM). By addressing the fundamental problem of a lack of awareness, education, and support in these crucial areas, we expect our solution to have the following impact:
1. Increased Awareness and Knowledge: Our educational orientation sessions provide clear, concise, and culturally relevant information about SRHR and MHM. By bridging the knowledge gap, we empower individuals to understand their bodies and the importance of maintaining good hygiene during menstruation. When people are informed, they can make more informed choices.
2. Skill Development: Our reusable pad-making training sessions not only equip individuals with practical skills for creating their menstrual hygiene products but also foster a sense of self-reliance and independence. By offering these hands-on workshops, we address the problem of limited access to affordable menstrual products. When individuals have the knowledge and skills to create reusable pads, they reduce their reliance on expensive disposable products, contributing to cost savings and environmental sustainability.
3. Local Networks and Cross-Sector Collaboration: By establishing partnerships with local NGOs and community-based organizations, we create a network of support dedicated to SRHR and MHM. This collaboration extends our reach and resources, amplifying our impact in communities. We also engage with stakeholders in healthcare, education, and policy sectors, which allows us to work together towards policy changes and cross-sector solutions.
4. Reduction of Stigma and Taboos: Through our awareness campaigns and community engagement programs, we challenge myths and stigmas surrounding SRHR and MHM. Open dialogues and peer-led education reduce the silence and shame often associated with these topics. When people can talk openly about SRHR and MHM, they can access support and services without judgment.
5. Sustainable Impact: Over the long term, we expect our model to create a self-sustaining ecosystem where local leaders, organizations, and trained individuals continue to educate, support, and advocate for SRHR and MHM. The more informed and skilled people are, the less reliant they become on external resources and support, which leads to sustainable self-care.
6. Policy Changes: Through cross-sector collaboration and advocacy, we aim to influence policy changes that recognize SRHR and MHM as fundamental rights. This recognition will lead to comprehensive sex education, equitable access to healthcare, and affordable menstrual products for all individuals. Policy changes further protect and advance these rights.
7. Expansion to National and International Levels: Our success in Nepal and our innovative approach to SRHR and MHM are poised for national and international expansion. By building on our experiences, data-driven approach, and partnerships, we anticipate making a broader global impact.
In summary, our theory of change is rooted in the belief that when individuals are informed, skilled, and supported, they make healthier choices regarding SRHR and MHM. This not only leads to improved well-being but also transforms communities and societies, fostering well-informed, healthy, and empowered individuals who have access to their SRHR and MHM.

SRHRxMenstrual Hub has a multi-faceted plan for achieving financial sustainability:
1. Sales of Menstrual Products: We generate revenue by selling menstrual products, such as biodegradable sanitary pads, menstrual cups, and reusable cloth pads. These products are offered through our e-commerce platform and distributed to schools, healthcare facilities, and other organizations. A portion of the sales proceeds fund our educational and capacity-building initiatives.
2. Educational Workshops and Training Programs: We offer educational workshops and training programs on menstrual health and hygiene management (MHM) and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Schools, NGOs, and community organizations pay for these services. This revenue helps sustain our core programs.
3. Consulting and Capacity Building: We provide consulting and capacity-building services to schools, NGOs, and healthcare providers. These services focus on integrating menstrual health into their existing programs and services. Our team of experts facilitates this process, offering tailored solutions. These consultancy fees serve as an income source.
4. Community Partnerships and Grants: We seek grants, sponsorships, and partnerships with governmental and non-governmental organizations to support specific projects and initiatives. These partnerships help cover the costs associated with community outreach, education, and awareness campaigns.
5. Social Enterprise Initiatives: We are developing social enterprise initiatives, such as community-based production and distribution of reusable menstrual products. These initiatives aim to create local employment opportunities and generate income for marginalized women while promoting menstrual hygiene. The revenue from these enterprises will support our broader mission.
6. Online Crowdfunding and Donations: SRHRxMenstrual Hub maintains an online presence, including social media platforms. We leverage these platforms for online fundraising and crowdfunding campaigns, inviting individuals and organizations to contribute to our cause. These donations help us bridge gaps in funding for specific projects and initiatives.
7. Selling Merchandise: We sell branded merchandise, such as T-shirts, tote bags, and educational materials. The proceeds from merchandise sales contribute to funding our core programs.
8. Investment and Expansion: We explore the possibility of attracting impact investors who align with our mission. Investment capital will support the scaling of our initiatives, expand our reach to more communities, and enhance the sustainability of our operations.
9. Earned Income Strategies: We continuously explore additional earned income strategies, such as offering premium menstrual products, subscription services, and value-added educational content. These strategies aim to diversify our revenue sources and ensure financial sustainability.
Overall, our financial sustainability plan involves a mix of revenue streams, with a focus on generating income through product sales, educational services, consulting, community partnerships, and grants. This diversified approach helps us cover operational costs while expanding our reach and impact in MHM and SRHR education and advocacy. As we grow, we anticipate that a combination of these strategies will ensure the long-term financial sustainability of SRHRxMenstrual Hub.
