Keza Quiz
The problem I'm addressing in the challenge is the lack of comprehensive sexual reproductive health (SRH) education among teenagers and young people in Rwanda. This issue is not only local but also a global concern, affecting the well-being and future prospects of young individuals.
In Rwanda, there is a significant gap in accessible and comprehensive SRH education for teenagers and young adults. The consequences of this gap include risky sexual behaviors, unintended pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and a lack of informed decision-making about sexual health. Rwanda has a relatively high rate of teenage pregnancies, with 7% of girls aged 15-19 already beginning childbearing, according to the Rwanda Demographic and Health Survey 2019-2020.
Contributing factors to this problem include cultural stigma surrounding SRH topics, a lack of qualified educators, and limited resources for SRH programs. The issue is not limited to Rwanda; it's a global problem. The World Health Organization emphasizes the importance of age-appropriate SRH education to reduce the global burden of STIs, unwanted pregnancies, and unsafe abortions among young people.
My solution, the "Keza Quiz Game," addresses these challenges by providing an engaging and informative platform for young people to learn about SRH. The application offers a quiz format where users answer questions about SRH, and if they choose the wrong answer, the app provides the correct one. It makes learning about SRH accessible, engaging, non-threatening and in a youth-friendly way.
By introducing the "Keza Quiz Game" in high schools and local communities in Rwanda, I aim to reach a significant number of young people who lack access to comprehensive SRH education but also who do not have access to smartphones so they get to play at school. As the success of the application grows, it has the potential for global relevance, contributing to the broader issue of limited SRH education among young people worldwide.
My initiative aligns with global efforts to improve SRH education, supporting United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and Goal 4 (Quality Education). Ultimately, this initiative has the potential to positively impact the lives of countless young people, both in Rwanda and globally, by equipping them with essential SRH knowledge and promoting safer, healthier choices.

The target population for the "Keza Quiz Game" is teenagers and young people in Rwanda, aged 10 to 24, who are in need of comprehensive sexual reproductive health (SRH) education. This demographic includes students in high schools and young adults in local communities.
Who are they?
High School Students: These are teenagers who are currently pursuing their education in high schools. They often lack easy access to SRH information due to cultural taboos and limited SRH education in schools.
Local Community Youth: This group includes young adults aged 18 to 24 living in local communities. They may have already left the formal education system and have even fewer resources available to them regarding SRH.
Ways They Are Underserved:
Limited Access to Information: Many teenagers and young adults in Rwanda have limited access to comprehensive and age-appropriate SRH information. This lack of information can lead to risky sexual behaviors and negative health outcomes.
Cultural Taboos: Cultural norms and taboos surrounding SRH topics can hinder open discussions and access to SRH education, leaving young people misinformed or uninformed.
Lack of Qualified Educators: High schools and local communities may lack the resources and qualified educators to provide comprehensive SRH education. This leaves young people without access to essential knowledge.
How the Solution Addresses Their Needs:
The "Keza Quiz Game" addresses the needs of this underserved population by providing an engaging and accessible platform for SRH education:
Engagement: The quiz game format is interactive and engaging, making learning about SRH fun and non-threatening. It encourages active participation.
Access to Reliable Information: The application offers accurate and age-appropriate SRH information, ensuring that users receive reliable answers to their questions.
Self-Paced Learning: Users can learn at their own pace, helping them absorb information more effectively. They can revisit questions and answers to reinforce their understanding.
Overcoming Cultural Taboos: By offering information in a discreet and gamified format, the app can help break down cultural barriers related to discussing SRH topics.
Broad Accessibility: As a mobile app, the solution is accessible to a wide audience, including those who might not have access to formal SRH education in schools.
Keza content is in 3 different languages Kinyarwanda, English, and French, and for the young people in rural areas who only speak Kinyarwanda, it is much easier for them.
The users can give us feedback and ask questions in the game.
By addressing these needs, the "Keza Quiz Game" aims to directly and meaningfully improve the lives of teenagers and young people in Rwanda, empowering them with essential SRH knowledge and promoting healthier decision-making in their lives.

Our team is very strong and equipped with all the skills that are necessary.
Our approach is community-centered and participatory, ensuring that the "Keza Quiz Game" is designed and implemented with the communities' input, ideas, and agendas at the forefront. This approach encourages active participation and makes SRH education more appealing to the target audience.

User-Generated Content: The app's design allows for user-generated content, enabling young people to submit their own questions, share experiences, and engage with the app's community. This fosters a sense of ownership and encourages peer-to-peer learning.
Catalyzing Broader Positive Impacts:
The "Keza Quiz Game" can catalyze broader positive impacts by serving as a model for innovative SRH education. It can inspire other educators and organizations to adopt similar gamified approaches to reach young populations, not only in Rwanda but globally.
Its emphasis on user-generated content can create a sense of community, where young people share knowledge and experiences. This community-building aspect can foster positive behavior change and create a supportive environment for young people to make informed choices about their sexual health.
Changing the Market,
The "Keza Quiz Game" could disrupt the traditional model of classroom-based SRH education. Its success in engaging and educating young people through an app could prompt educational institutions and organizations to reconsider their methods and explore technology-driven approaches.
Tech Underpinning,
The technology underpinning the solution is the mobile application itself. It uses modern smartphone capabilities for interactive learning, engagement, and accessibility. The app integrates user-friendly design, accurate content, and real-time feedback mechanisms, making it an innovative tool for SRH education.
It is the first multiple-language gamification platform for SRH in Rwanda.
The "Keza Quiz Game" is an innovative solution that combines gamification, mobile technology, and user-generated content to address the SRH education gap among teenagers and young people. Its potential to inspire change and positively impact the broader SRH education landscape makes it a significant contribution to the field, both in Rwanda and beyond.

We aim to achieve this by providing the "Keza Quiz Game" as a free, widely accessible mobile application.
Reduced Rates of Teenage Pregnancies: We aspire to significantly reduce the rate of teenage pregnancies in Rwanda. We will measure this impact by tracking the number of teenage pregnancies over time, aiming for a substantial decrease in this statistic.
Decreased Incidence of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs): We aim to contribute to a reduction in STI transmission among teenagers and young adults. This impact will be assessed by monitoring the incidence of STIs, focusing on declines in this indicator.
Empowered Decision-Making: We strive to empower young individuals to make informed and responsible decisions about their sexual health. We will measure this through user surveys and feedback, tracking users' confidence and knowledge regarding SRH topics.
Community Engagement and Participation: We aim to foster a sense of community and participation among users. We will track community engagement metrics, including the number of user-generated questions, comments, and interactions within the app.
To achieve these impact goals, we will work closely with educational institutions, local communities, and relevant government agencies in Rwanda. We will also collaborate with local healthcare providers and organizations specializing in SRH to ensure the comprehensive reach and effectiveness of our solution. By closely aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goals, such as Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and Goal 4 (Quality Education), we aim to contribute to broader efforts to improve the health and well-being of young people in Rwanda and advance their access to quality education.
