Integrate SRH in Safe Space
Young women have a right to enjoy their reproductive health, but due to insufficient knowledge and low quality of information regarding their health and limited empowerment from marginalization, low income, they die as a result of complications from pregnancy and child birth. The high level of stigma for young women accessing SRHR services has not changed substantially in the past decades in Kenya and addressing choice is human rights imperative. Target population in Kayole area suffers the same fate especially delayed actions in mitigating the problem. Vision 2030 aims to provide equitable and affordable healthcare of highest affordable standard to all citizens with emphasis to preventive and promotive health care. Lespoir medical Centre seeks to fill the odds to access and utility of healthcare services in Kayole by providing individuals with quality, subsidized, culturally & demographically appropriate, and affordable health care, focusing on maternal health. In accordance with Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Lespoir medical Centre strives to improve the health of girls in need.
- To offer reproductive health services to women with respect, dignity and confidentiality
- To improve access and integrating SRH services in our clinic.
- Offer quality safe space for young women to explore their potential
The Kenya National Reproductive Health Policy (NRHP) elaborates on Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHRs), as essential component of human rights that should be observed. It states that reproductive healthcare must be responsive to expressed needs of the clients/service seekers, and failure to prevent maternal and new-born deaths is a social injustice that violates human rights, in the context of Kenyan laws. Although Kenya has in place both the National Reproductive Health Policy and the National Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health Policy, both which seek to increase equitable access to reproductive health services by improving responsiveness to clients through the provision of quality, efficient and effective services at all levels of healthcare, many women still face significant problems in accessing SRHS. The NRHP further calls for the elimination of factors that impede equitable access to reproductive health services and in particular, the reduction of financial, and social, political and cultural barriers to those seeking reproductive health services.
The clinic intends to align to the Fast-Track approach for quickening the pace of implementation, focus and change at the community level. It involves setting ambitious targets and accelerating the delivery of high-impact maternal healthcare and treatment services by using innovation to expand services, to better address people’s needs and perspectives and focus on the populations with the highest burden while at the same time addresses social and legal barriers and advances human rights and gender equality. This will encompass; focused, high-impact prevention of maternal mortality; accelerated treatment and retention in care; anti-discrimination Programmes; and an unwavering commitment to respect, protect and promote human rights and gender equality. Our solution will be guided by the principle of person centered, equitable, data driven and collaborative that will be accelerated by adoption of technology based approaches.
Lespoir launched its first family planning at inception after groundwork for family planning prioritization to guide resource mobilization efforts. The clinic was motivated by the experiences of women and young girls within the area which indicated unmet needs in service provision with the objective of fostering locally-driven advocacy and service provision for Family Planning.
The main goal was to increase the locality’s modern contraceptive prevalence rate from 60% to 80% and reduce the unmet need for family planning 10% by 2023. There is need for a more concerted strategy to improve family planning interventions, particularly in the informal settlements and a strong buy-in from the other stakeholders to shepherd the current effort. As a next step, Lespoir will continue to advocate for the creation and utilization of a dedicated family planning strategy and action plan leveraging on synergies with other stakeholders and sector partners to ensure women and young girls can access long acting permanent and reversible contraceptives and bring freedom and choice at their convenience and within reach. Our facility and outreach team each comprise of skilled nurses, a care professionals to offer permanent, quality and affordable family planning methods and services in Kayole area.

Diversity, equity and inclusion are now guiding principles of the modern norms. However, in some regions of the world, discrimination is still an unfortunate reality. When organisations embrace diversity and inclusion (D&I), they offer unbiased services, safe spaces and retain the best talent, boost employee engagement, and even see better figures due to heightened public perception. A diverse culture is in a better position to innovate for a range of communities too. Diversity in an organization without inclusion can lead to toxic work culture. And inclusion without diversity is a tell-tale sign of impending stagnation, be it from the creative or the innovative outlook
