Phytobox is a low-tech catchment device that cleans water through phytoremediation - cleaning water with plants. It is a nature-based, low-cost, portable device that is easily deployable to clean water directly at the source of consumption and enable the local community to become a part of the solution. It responds to the long existing and threatening problem of river and lake contamination in rural India, which has been causing innumerable health concerns and is unable to be rectified only via public institutional efforts as are high tech and require substantial capital investment. The solution is extremely scalable, not just in India, but across developing contexts with similar issues.
