Reducing Rare Disease in Antimicrobial Resistance
As there is major challenge in controlling of the infectious diseases of poverty due to antimicrobial resistance in our country and worldwide, I am intended to develop a new technique to solve the problem arising from infectious diseases of poverty, antimicrobial resistances, and build a social enterprise in Ethiopia and also shared among the world community that has an inclusive product and model to address lack of access to agricultural, health and Technology products in a sustainable way.
Conducting research on Molecular Epidemiology of Antimicrobial Resistance in Enterococcus from Poultry, Cattle, Humans, and the Environment as follows:
Enterococci are leading causes of nosocomial infections. Specifically, E. faecium and E. faecalis represent opportunistic nosocomial pathogens that cause difficult-to-treat infections as a result of intrinsic and acquired antimicrobial resistance. Entercocci are also prevelant in livestock and poultry where they often exhibit high levels of resistance to macrolides, a family of antibiotics considered of high importance in human medicine. Entercocci can also be used as an indicator of fecal contamination. Using whole genome sequencing (WGS) data, this project aims to assess the genetic relatedness of core genomes, mobile genetic elements and antimicrobial resistance genes (ARG) of Enterococcus sourced from poultry farms, beef feedlots, and retail meat products. In collaboration with WP3a and WP3b, we will predict the AMR phenotype using bioinformatics approaches, and use an integrated assessment model to determine potential transmission of resistant bacteria and associated public health risks. We use a One Health approach to investigate this issue. We will complete a scoping review as well as use comparative genomics, molecular epidemiology, and sophisticated bioinformatics tools with an extensive “One Health” collection of enterococci from humans, livestock, poultry, sewage, surface water, lagoons, and meat processing plants. In addition, use of an integrated assessment model and other epidemiologic techniques will be used to look at specific associations between outcomes and risk factors.
The target population is Ethiopian community, sharing also for world communities from the products and innovative approach. The most useful approaches I will use are, describing the background, Pre-Assessment/ tests and Post- Assessment/Tests, Recommendation to understand their needs, and I will engage them by building a social enterprise associated with disease diagnosis network system as we develop the solution. the solution will address their needs in heartful manner as the participate in diseases diagnosis intervention systems and poverty reduction works.
I and my team are well-positioned to deliver this solution in that we are are the right people to design and deliver this solution to the target population as we are Scientists who believed to bring a positive change in the world communities including Ethiopia. In particular, the Team Lead in Organizing, coordinating, training, helping the community from end to give base on reducing poverty in the community and the team representative of these communities can manage the overall works, both local and international communities. to understand the needs of those you’re serving, I will conduct a Post- Assessment/Tests, Recommendation to understand their needs, and we will engage them as we develop the solution through Involving them in diseases prevention intervention, and sensitization to reduce poverty plan. The design and implementation of our solution will be meaningfully guided by the communities’ input, ideas, and agendas as it research arises from the community demand, Post test assessment conducted result, and also based on community's recommendations work.
- Improve the rare disease patient diagnostic journey – reducing the time, cost, resources, and duplicative travel and testing for patients and caregivers.
- Ethiopia
- Growth: An organization with an established product, service, or business model that is rolled out in one or more communities
I am applying for specific financial, technical, legal, cultural, or market barriers that we face to do I hope this Prize can help us overcome, as follows:
