Hyperguardians: monitoring biodiversity

The development of free and low-cost technologies can help to reduce socioeconomic gaps in a globalized world. Hyperguardians is a prototype for environmental monitoring that allows real-time analysis of physical and chemical data. The prototype was made with low-cost hardware, free software and licensed under free use and sharing licenses.

We created a guardian totem, the Hyperguardian, which aggregates environmental monitoring sensors for water, air, biodiversity (cameras and audio recorder) to be installed in areas of high biological diversity, but under socioecological vunerability.

The idea is to involve local populations, acting as environmental service provides, monitoring their own cities, in the janitorial of ecosystem services, generating new arrangements for income and citizen empowerment.

We intend to create a georeferenced network of monitoring of these areas, with a platform that will outsource the data of these sensors in real time. The idea is to remove these people and places from invisibility, which allows the predatory use of resources and handiwork, with certainty of impunity on the part of explorers and degraders.

Areas of high biological diversity provide important ecosystem services, but they have suffered the onus of "unprofitable" or "profitable". And with this, populations of fishermen, quilombolas, Indians, migrate from these places and end up working in other actions, underemployment and / or activity that de-characterize them. The idea is to empower people in the places where they live and to enable a non-predatory arrangement for the recovery and maintenance of territories

The proposal was inspired by Hakim Bey's TAZ concept, as each population with its Guardian Totem is a node of a network, an organism that can monitor one area and then another.
