STAR Maths
At STAR Maths, we believe that Indigenous innovation has the power to address the pressing social, environmental, and economic challenges faced by communities in the US and Canada. Drawing upon traditional knowledge and technology, Indigenous innovators are forging new paths towards sustainable development and community empowerment.
One example of this is the use of traditional land-based practices to promote ecological sustainability. Many Indigenous communities in the US and Canada are facing environmental degradation and loss of traditional land use rights. However, through the use of traditional ecological knowledge, these communities are working to restore and preserve their land and resources. This includes practices such as controlled burning, selective harvesting, and sustainable agriculture, all of which have been used for generations.
Indigenous innovation is also playing a key role in promoting economic development and entrepreneurship. Many Indigenous communities face economic challenges, including limited access to capital, markets, and business resources. However, through the use of innovative approaches, such as social enterprises, microfinance, and community-owned businesses, Indigenous entrepreneurs are creating new opportunities for economic growth and sustainability.
At STAR Maths, we are proud to be part of this tradition of Indigenous innovation. Our unique SEE-TRY-APPLY-REVISE approach to K-12 maths education draws upon traditional pedagogical practices, such as experiential learning and scaffolded instruction, to promote critical thinking and skill development. Through the use of hands-on activities and manipulatives, we aim to make mathematics more accessible and engaging for Indigenous students, promoting greater success in school and beyond.
Moreover, our solution is designed to address the specific needs and challenges faced by Indigenous communities, including limited access to quality education and resources. By leveraging technology, we are able to deliver our hybrid learning solution to even the most remote and underserved areas, promoting greater educational equity and opportunity for Indigenous students.
At STAR Maths, we recognize the vital role of Indigenous innovation in promoting sustainability, economic development, and community empowerment. By building upon traditional knowledge and technology, we can create innovative solutions tailored to the unique needs and challenges of Indigenous communities. We are committed to continuing this tradition of innovation and to working alongside Indigenous communities towards a brighter, more sustainable future for all.
STAR Maths Introduction & Demo Video
STAR Maths is a leading ed-tech startup that aims to revolutionize the way mathematics is taught to K-12 students. As one of the 10 ed-tech startups selected by META for the XR Accelerator Program, we are proud to offer a hybrid learning solution that combines the best of both worlds – traditional paper-based learning and digital tools.
Our unique SEE-TRY-APPLY-REVISE approach, which is what STAR stands for, involves scaffolding to create a helpful learning environment for students. We break down learning into portions, offering tools, frameworks, or assistance, with each chunk as and when necessary. Our scaffolded workbooks are the first and only approach in the world that uses scaffolding in this way. They save time, allowing teachers to use that time to teach maths using hands-on activities and manipulatives provided in our kits. This approach allows for more in-class practice time and personalized attention for students.
Our hybrid learning solution comprises three main components: worksheet books, hands-on activity kits, and an XR-based app that supports the learning process at all stages. Our scaffolded workbooks save 40% of classroom lecture time, which a teacher may use in order to foster conceptual understanding through hands-on activities. Our kits have manipulatives that make abstract ideas concrete, and when students use mathematical manipulatives even at home, not only does it increase their mathematical achievement scores, but it also provides them with additional methods or strategies that are critical to building problem-solving skills.
Our XR-based app is designed to support the learning process at all stages. It offers a unique way for students to visualize mathematical concepts and solve problems in a fun and engaging way. The app features interactive games and simulations, making learning math more accessible and enjoyable for students. Our app also offers real-time feedback, allowing students to identify their strengths and weaknesses in specific areas and work on them accordingly.
Our hybrid learning solution recommends a shift from rote learning to experiential learning in mathematics education. This means that students are encouraged to learn through hands-on experiences, problem-solving, and critical thinking. The policy also emphasizes the need for teachers to use a variety of teaching-learning methods, such as collaborative learning, activity-based learning, and peer-to-peer learning, to make mathematics more interesting and relevant for students.
Our solution is unique because it combines traditional paper-based learning with digital tools, providing a hybrid learning experience that is tailored to meet the needs of today's students. It offers personalized attention to students, fostering conceptual understanding through hands-on activities, and providing real-time feedback to help students identify their strengths and weaknesses. Our solution is scalable and can be implemented in schools across the world, making it accessible to students everywhere.

Currently, math education is often delivered in a one-size-fits-all approach, where teachers cover a set curriculum and move on to the next topic, leaving many students behind. This approach often fails to address the needs of individual students, leading to frustration and disengagement from math education. Our solution, however, provides a personalized learning experience that adapts to each student's individual needs and learning style, ensuring that every student can engage with and understand the material.
Our solution is also unique in its focus on experiential learning. Through our hands-on activity kits and manipulatives, we help students visualize and understand abstract math concepts in a concrete way. This approach not only helps students grasp the material more effectively but also helps them build critical problem-solving and critical thinking skills that will be valuable in their future academic and professional pursuits.
In conclusion, our solution serves a critical need for millions of students across the globe and has the potential to transform math education for generations to come. With the help of a 1 billion dollar grant, we can scale our solution and ensure that every student has access to quality math education, regardless of their background or socioeconomic status.
