PINSEL is focused on solving the specific problem of lack of access to resources, training, and support for Indigenous communities facing similar challenges in the USA and Canada. Many Indigenous communities in these countries are also isolated and lack the resources necessary to develop innovative solutions to their unique challenges, ranging from economic development to preserving cultural heritage.
According to the US Census Bureau, there are an estimated 6.7 million Indigenous people in the United States, comprising over 2% of the population. Similarly, in Canada, Indigenous people make up over 5% of the population, with over 1.7 million Indigenous individuals. These communities often face significant barriers to accessing education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, contributing to a wealth gap and social disparities.
Our solution, PINSEL, is an online platform that connects Indigenous communities with similar challenges and provides them with tools to build an entrepreneurial and self-reliant community. It uses modern information technology mechanisms such as cloud computing, microservices, and Single Sign-On to create a one-stop-shop platform for learning, services, advice, projects, resources, and fundraising for Indigenous entrepreneurs.
The platform also integrates existing solutions and creates a unique platform for interaction with information, training, services, projects, resources, and other facilities that are developed with third-party solutions. It has a modern interoperability system that can integrate with any existing system and incorporate thousands of applications for document editing, productivity, graphic design, or audiovisual tools.
PINSEL incorporates social media techniques and artificial intelligence to help members find people with similar interests and resources needed for projects, such as information, seed banks for agricultural projects, resources for digital manufacturing, and advice and solutions to create technology centers in communities. The platform also includes a space for e-learning with ready-to-use contents in management, innovation, and the correct use of new technologies.
In summary, PINSEL is a comprehensive platform that provides Indigenous communities with tools to build a community of entrepreneurship and self-reliance. It connects people, processes, resources, and knowledge to help them overcome challenges and achieve their goals.

- Prototype: A venture or organization building and testing its product, service, or business model, but which is not yet serving anyone
Our solution has moved beyond the concept phase and we have developed a working prototype with basic functionality. The prototype has been tested with a small group of users, and we have received positive feedback and valuable insights for further development.
Our solution, PINSEL, is currently in the prototype stage. We have developed a basic functioning version of the platform that includes key features such as cloud storage, microservices, and Single Sign-On. Additionally, the platform integrates third-party solutions to provide a comprehensive set of resources, services, and tools for Indigenous entrepreneurs.
The prototype has undergone extensive testing and feedback collection from Indigenous community members and leaders to ensure that it meets their needs and is user-friendly. In the next three months, we plan to launch the next version of the platform with additional features such as contact management, project management, document management, workspace management, event management, and an e-learning platform.
Overall, our solution is a prototype because we have developed a working version of the platform with essential functionality and are continually improving and expanding it to meet the needs of Indigenous communities. We are committed to refining our solution based on community feedback and ensuring that it is a valuable and accessible resource for Indigenous entrepreneurs.
We are applying to Solve because we believe that their network of partners and resources can help us overcome the financial, technical, legal, and cultural barriers we are facing as we develop and scale our solution. Specifically, we are seeking access to funding opportunities, mentorship, and technical support that can help us bring our platform to the next level and reach more Indigenous communities in the US and Canada.
We are also hoping to leverage Solve's extensive network to connect with potential partners and collaborators who can help us refine our solution and tailor it to the specific needs of Indigenous communities. Additionally, we are excited about the opportunity to participate in Solve's community of innovative problem-solvers and engage in cross-disciplinary collaboration with other Solver teams.
Overall, we believe that Solve's mission aligns closely with our own, and we are eager to work with their network of partners to advance our solution and make a meaningful impact in the lives of Indigenous communities.

Our Team Lead is connected to the Indigenous communities that our project aims to benefit through his leadership position in the Plataforma Tecnológica Peruana, an organization based in Peru that is dedicated to developing solutions for social and environmental challenges. He has been instrumental in developing the concept and designing the solution, working closely with Indigenous leaders and community members to understand their unique needs and incorporate their input into our solution. He is committed to ensuring that our solution is developed in close collaboration with the communities we aim to serve, and that their voices and perspectives are fully represented in our work.
Our solution called Platform for Innovation, Networking, Services, Empowerment, and Leadership - PINSEL is innovative because:
- It connects Indigenous communities with similar challenges and induces co-creation using modern IT mechanisms to create a cloud of solutions that can be integrated with other existing ones through a single platform that serves as unique access to a learning platform, services, consultancy, projects, resources, and fundraising for their entrepreneurial ideas.
- The system is also innovative because it integrates existing solutions and incorporates them into the platform, so that they do not lose the use of solutions they may already be using and creates a unique platform for interaction with information, training, services, projects, resources, and other facilities that are achieved with third parties that contribute solutions.
- The system has a modern interoperability system that can be integrated with any existing system and can incorporate thousands of applications that may already be in use for document editing, presentations, productivity tools, graphic or audiovisual design.
- The system incorporates social networking techniques, modernizes the concept of information search, uses artificial intelligence to help its members find people with similar interests, resources needed for projects such as information, seed banks for agricultural projects, resources for digital manufacturing, consultancy, and solutions to create technological centers in communities for the development of skills and competencies such as FABLABs created by MIT and links them to specialists who can help solve these challenges.
- This platform is unique in its approach to community building, entrepreneurship, and collaboration, empowering Indigenous communities with a tool to build an entrepreneurial spirit and community self-reliance.
- Our solution also innovates in the learning process, as it will have an e-learning space with ready-to-learn content in the management process, innovation, and correct use of new technologies.
- The platform also includes reputation management models for its members that are useful for making the correct link between people, challenges, projects, resources, and appropriate financing.
- It is also novel because it includes CREDITS and MERITS that members can earn or generate when they do activities that benefit their communities and can be used to redeem for internal services, participation in events, courses, workshops, recreational activities, or access to a catalog of products or services that sponsors want to donate to the project, creating a sense of equity in the transactions carried out in the community.
Our impact goals for the next year include connecting with 10 Indigenous communities and helping them develop solutions to their challenges. Our five-year goal is to connect with 500 Indigenous communities, have at least 100 communities using our platform, and at least 50 of them developing successful businesses or projects. We plan to achieve these goals by reaching out to Indigenous communities and building relationships with them through our platform, and also by engaging with other Indigenous communities from around the world to share resources, specialists, experiences, projects, and funds. We envision that universities will include opportunities for their students to conduct research and develop theses that contribute to solving the challenges faced by Indigenous communities. In fact, our system can connect with markets, clients, and businesses that can participate in innovative projects with Indigenous communities, creating a virtual community that serves as a foundation for community members to add value to their families and cities.

For the measurement process, we will follow our own methodologies for measuring the level of maturity of the communities where the solution will be implemented, and we will define management indicators where we will measure our progress by monitoring the number of Indigenous communities we connect with, the number of mentors who join the platform, the number of successful businesses or projects developed, and the satisfaction of the communities using our platform. We will also create a program called "Volunteers for Indigenous Development" for organizations like ours who are willing to share their knowledge in support of a dignified life for our Indigenous communities and other minorities in general. Along the way, we will create other indicators as we receive participation from universities, technical institutes, entrepreneurs, and others who want to donate resources or money to the program.
Our theory of change is that by connecting Indigenous communities with each other and with specialists who can help them overcome challenges, we will foster entrepreneurship and self-reliance within Indigenous communities. We believe that by building a supportive community, Indigenous communities can become empowered to create their own solutions to their unique challenges. Based on our experience in community development, we have observed that following the natural process of forming a cooperative community, where members learn, share ideas, commit to collaborating to find solutions, and receive adequate support to innovate and undertake, it is possible to inject an entrepreneurial spirit into the community. Another principle, according to Peter Senge's work "The Fifth Discipline," gives us five disciplines for intelligent organizations: 1. Personal development 2. Mental models 3. Team learning 4. Shared vision and 5. Systemic thinking. We have confidence that in a community where we have seen solidarity and a high level of cooperation among communities that face inequality, this will be the engine to drive their development supported by modern technologies that serve to integrate knowledge and actions.
The PINSEL platform implements the technology of "Platform as a Service", which allows the community to authenticate and interact with the platform's existing applications, such as contacts, events, projects, workspace, and documents, as well as include third-party applications that add to the platform to interact in a single environment. Furthermore, others can use the platform's functionality, and with modern interoperability mechanisms, have federated networks of information to communicate with other communities and exchange information on resources, services, technical support, continuing education, and other services through modern microservice mechanisms available on the platform to improve its functionality and efficiency.
Our platform uses various technologies such as web development, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, blockchain, virtual and augmented reality, and the Internet of Things to connect individuals, communities, and resources. Additionally, our system can integrate third-party solutions to adapt to the community's needs. We firmly believe that technology can help close the gap between indigenous communities and resources, and our platform leverages these technologies to achieve this. PINSEL also develops under international interoperability standards in management, processes, semantics, and technology, giving it the ability to integrate with any current information system.

PINSEL's financial sustainability plan involves generating revenue from its affiliate members, who pay a success fee for transactions that create value on the platform. Additionally, PINSEL will have a Freemium model with some initial free services, and users must generate income through referrals and sales of products and services on the network. Furthermore, PINSEL invites other service providers to install their solutions on the platform, which either pay an affiliate fee or pay for successful transactions made on PINSEL. These revenue streams are expected to cover the platform's expenses in the long run.
So far, the development of PINSEL is financially supported by my company, which has been installed in a university and will be implemented in the Peruvian Technology Platform. We work on projects with the business, education, and government sectors. The model also relies on the affiliations of other developers who contribute their solutions that become part of the platform. While we have not received any grants or investment funding yet, we are confident in our ability to achieve financial sustainability through our revenue streams and partnerships.
