Climate-B Ventures addresses the challenge of increasing extreme rainfall days in India, which have risen by 75% from 1950-2015. These extreme weather events pose a significant risk to manufacturing industries and critical infrastructure, leading to potential financial losses. For instance, flooding and erosion have caused Assam to lose 8% of its land area in the last few decades, and the recent flooding events in Assam in 2022 have displaced 5.4 million people causing around 200 deaths. This is the impact of one extreme event in the country and India is prone to heavy flooding and heavy cyclonic activities every year. The estimated revenue loss across various sectors of the economy due to extreme weather events is approximately Rs. 15 lakh crores. Additionally, the number of flood-affected districts in India has increased from 75 in 2018 to 97 in 2019, resulting in property value reduction, rising flood insurance costs, and increased claims for flood damage.
The firm aims to tackle the issue of extreme events by leveraging the latest science in climate change, artificial intelligence, geospatial data analytics coupled with real time weather information using Automated weather stations and Internet of Things to develop a solution to measure, manage and mitigate the physical impacts due to climate change.
The latest technologies in geospatial data management such as drones, UAVs would help the company understand the topography, its complexity thereby helping the firm measure its vulnerability to the risk.
Internet of Things and AWS stations would help the firm understand the latest changes in weather patterns thereby enabling the firm to develop Early Warning Systems aiding communities and cities to manage the risks.
Various modelling techniques would help the firm analyse the possible impacts of such extreme events helping the firm plan adaptation strategies for the communities and cities.
Finally Artificial Intelligence would be used to combine all of the above information and automate the entire process enabling for real time impact creation.
Climate-B Ventures is developing a product that provides a solution for cities and critical infrastructure to adapt to the impacts of extreme weather events, using the latest science in climate change, geospatial data management, artificial intelligence and technology such as drones and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). Our solution includes a combination of tools and strategies needed to adapt to these events, such as a real-time weather monitoring system, digital elevation maps of assets under study, high-resolution flood risk assessment tools, and customized adaptation responses for every customer.
One of the main ways we use technology is by utilizing drones to generate high-resolution maps and as digital twins. These digital twins allow us to perform a range of analyses, including flood hazard estimation and assessment, and develop effective adaptation strategies for our customers. Additionally, we use IIoT devices such as temperature and humidity sensors to measure weather-related information at the ground level, which helps in developing early warning systems and calibrating our systems with real-time weather information.
Our solution works by first conducting high-resolution drone surveys to generate a digital elevation model of the area of interest. We then use this information to create surface runoff and flood hazard simulations, which allow us to understand the potential depth of destruction and develop adaptation strategies, such as drainage and embankment planning. By combining these simulations with real-time weather information and early warning systems, we provide our customers with a comprehensive understanding of the risks posed by extreme weather events and develop effective adaptation strategies to help them continue operations despite these challenges.
Our solution is tailored to the needs of cities and critical infrastructure, which are most vulnerable to the impacts of extreme weather events. By providing these entities with a solution that combines the latest science in climate change, geospatial data management, artificial intelligence, and technology such as drones and IIoT, we help them adapt to the challenges posed by climate change and continue operations despite these challenges. Our solution is streamlined into the organization's workflow, minimizing risks to lives and the financial cost of loss and damage to the organization.

The solution also helps to reduce the economic and social impact of climate change on communities by building resilience and adapting to the changing climate.
As a team, we are uniquely positioned to deliver this solution due to our close proximity and hands-on approach to understanding the needs of the communities we aim to serve. We firmly believe that in order to address the hydrological issues faced by these communities, it is essential to immerse ourselves in their environment and engage directly with the stakeholders involved.
To gain a comprehensive understanding of the risks posed by dam breaks and other hydrological challenges, our team members proactively reach out to the cities and enterprises at risk. We visit their sites, accompanied by city authorities, to conduct thorough assessments. This involves identifying breaks in embankments, analyzing the flow of water, studying the terrain, and assessing the settlement areas. By physically visiting these locations, we can gather invaluable insights and firsthand knowledge of their specific hydrological issues.
Building upon this groundwork, we employ advanced modelling software to analyze and visualize the risks in a comprehensive manner. Our team creates detailed and accurate demo models specific to the identified hydrological challenges. These models serve as a basis for our subsequent design process, ensuring that the infrastructure solutions we propose are tailored to each community's unique needs and circumstances.
However, our interaction with the communities goes much beyond just gathering and analysing data. We recognise the value of incorporating community suggestions, viewpoints, and objectives into the creation and use of our solutions. We actively involve the communities and pertinent stakeholders throughout the development process in order to accomplish this. We set up consultation meetings to hear their worries, get their opinions, and comprehend their goals. We make sure that the communities themselves are significantly guiding the design and implementation of our solutions by incorporating their feedback and actively involving them.
The firm would also be involved with communities during the implementation phase of the NBS and other adaptation responses thereby providing a holistic risk measurement, management and adaptation solution for communities and cities.
Thus the firm would be in constant engagement with its stakeholders right from the risk assessment stage till the implementation stage thereby ensuring impact creation and value addition to the communities.
- Help communities understand and incorporate climate risk in infrastructure design and planning, including through improved data collection and analysis, integration with existing systems, and aligning financial incentives such as insurance.
- India
- Prototype: A venture or organization building and testing its product, service, or business model, but which is not yet serving anyone
The idea for a product was initially thought of because of a certain lack of solutions linking climate risks to drive resilience in communities.
The firm has taken a market first approach, where the firm has spoken to various stakeholders in the Indian government, state and local government bodies, large and medium scale enterprises and industries and has documented their problem statements when it comes to climate risks and physical hazards.
The firm has then developed solutions catered to every market segment making it diverse and unique to the particular segment.
The firm has then verified and validated the developed solutions with the respective stakeholders in every market segment.
