CLIMATE: ECOSYSTEMS PLUS HOUSING.
South Sudan is one of the conflict driven countries and is one of the poorest countries in Africa with underdeveloped housing infrastructure. With a population of roughly 13 million people, almost 99% of the overall population do not have good houses to live in. Most house are small huts built out of trees (poles) and soil (mud).
Problem: People destroy the forests by cutting the tries, dig the soil (mud) and use them for building their huts. The major factors that contributes to this problem is lack of technical skills, unemployment and poverty.
Environmental conservation through use of new construction technologies that makes housing affordable to all is my major concern. Soil stabilization technology is seen as the realistic solution to reduce the over dependence of people on building the local huts that tends to destroy the environment and results into climate change. It create jobs among also reduces issues of unemployment
Our solution serves the general population and we also put some consideration on the most vulnerable people by constructing houses for them free of charge. The solution tends to improve their living conditions. The solution makes them live in improved houses that looks decent and durable. They are the general population who do not have access better houses. They live in huts which are poorly constructed. The solution addresses their needs in that they will live in well constructed improved houses and the solution also creates jobs for them.
My team and i are the right people to deliver this solution to the target population because we have become experts in the hydraform technology. We were trained by the experts from South Africa on this technology hence We constructed some buildings across some parts of the country like in; Juba, Yei, Morobo etc. We engage the community
- Support informal communities in upgrading to more resilient housing, including financing, design, and low-carbon materials or energy sources.
- South Sudan
- Scale: A sustainable enterprise working in several communities or countries that is focused on increased efficiency
My solution currently serves a small number of people say about 50 people but i intend to increase the number to more than 2m. people.
The reason is clear! I need Solve to connect me with the partners who can help advance my vision and expand what i have already started.
- Financial (e.g. accounting practices, pitching to investors)
This solution looks innovative in the South Sudan context because it is something new to many. People will instead buy the products because they are cheap compared to the other construction technologies.
My impact goals for the next year and the next five years includes;
- Improved housing for the general population:
- Create jobs for many people within the population.
- Alleviate poverty.
- Beautify the city with new beautiful buildings.
Using my entrepreneurial expertise, I will work hard to achieve these goals by engaging the general population to take ownership and love the technology.
- 1. No Poverty
- 3. Good Health and Well-being
- 11. Sustainable Cities and Communities
- 13. Climate Action
I measure my progress through observing the number of people who loves the technology.
The solution will have impact on the problem by reducing the number of people who are destroying the environment. People will construct houses using the blocks instead of the poles.
The use of the hydraform machines to stabilize the soil to produce interlocking blocks.
- A new business model or process that relies on technology to be successful
- Materials Science
- For-profit, including B-Corp or similar models
We strongly believe and encourage women and men to participate equally in the implementation of the solution project.
We intend to improve people's lives by lowering the construction cost that will be affordable to the population. We intend to create jobs by employing the jobless people such that they can improve their lives and livelihoods. The products we will provide are the blocks, doors and windows etc. and we construct their houses. We will produce the blocks right at the beneficiary premises and then offer lower cost for the services.
- Individual consumers or stakeholders (B2C)
Our plan for financial sustainability is a combination of all: sale of the produced products (blocks) and services (construction), we will be getting contracts from either the government, NGOs etc. We will also be lobbying for grants if needed.
Well, in the beginning, we raised some small capital for starting up the business. We generated some small revenue but we still have the dream to expand the business.
