The global affordable housing deficit is one of the most pressing challenges we face, particularly as the world's population continues to grow and urbanize at an unprecedented rate. However, there are several ways in which we can work to address this issue in a sustainable way.
One potential solution is to shift towards circular and bio-based building methods. This means using renewable and recycled materials in construction, such as wood and bamboo, and utilizing strategies to minimize waste and reduce emissions. These materials can be grown and harvested sustainably, reducing the environmental impact of construction and promoting biodiversity.
Another important approach is to prioritize the health and well-being of residents in affordable housing. This means ensuring that homes are well-ventilated, well-lit, and designed to promote mental and physical health. In addition to reducing the spread of diseases, this can also reduce healthcare costs and improve quality of life for residents.
We can also work to reduce the cost of affordable housing by promoting the use of new technologies and construction methods, such as 3D printing and modular construction. These methods can be faster and more cost-effective than traditional construction, making it easier to build affordable housing on a large scale.
Finally, it's essential to ensure that affordable housing is accessible to everyone, regardless of income or social status. This means creating policies and initiatives that prioritize affordable housing, and working with communities to create safe and inclusive neighborhoods.
Overall, the global affordable housing deficit is a complex issue that requires a multifaceted approach. By prioritizing sustainability, health and well-being, and accessibility, we can work to create a more just and equitable world for all.
Justev Building Systems Ltd is addressing the interlinked issues of the housing deficit, deforestation, and climate change through circular, bio-based, and carbon-negative building methods. The company focuses on creating affordable, durable, and eco-friendly interlocking bricks, which are made from locally sourced soil and cement, and are resistant to natural disasters.
This approach can be particularly beneficial in rural and refugee contexts, where traditional building materials may be in short supply, leading to deforestation and poor living conditions. By using renewable and recycled materials, and training marginalized youth in construction skills, the company can provide employment opportunities and help to improve the living conditions of those in these communities.
In addition, incorporating sustainable technologies such as solar panels, rainwater harvesting systems, and smart home technologies can further improve the sustainability and affordability of these homes. Overall, Justev Building Systems Ltd's approach offers a scalable and sustainable solution to the housing deficit while mitigating the impacts of deforestation and climate change
Justev Building Systems Ltd serves a wide range of populations, including rural and urban communities, refugees, and low-income families. The solution directly impacts the lives of those who lack access to affordable and sustainable housing, which is a pressing issue in many regions of the world.
The target population is those who are currently underserved by traditional construction methods, which can be expensive, environmentally unsustainable, and require specialized skills. Justev Building Systems Ltd addresses this need by using interlocking soil stabilized blocks to build durable, waterproof, and eco-friendly homes that are affordable and accessible to all.
In addition, the company provides training to marginalized youth in the construction industry, giving them the skills they need to secure employment and contribute to their communities. This not only addresses the need for affordable housing but also helps to address the issue of unemployment among marginalized populations.
Overall, Justev Building Systems Ltd aims to improve the lives of those who are currently underserved by traditional construction methods, by providing sustainable and affordable housing solutions that are accessible to all.
As the co-founder a of Justev Building Systems Ltd, I bring a personal connection to the communities we serve. Growing up in a rural community in Uganda, I witnessed firsthand the struggles of families living in substandard housing without access to basic amenities. I have worked on construction projects in various African countries and have seen the need for affordable and sustainable housing solutions.
Our team includes individuals who have experience working in the construction industry and have a passion for sustainable development. We also have members who come from the same communities we serve, ensuring that we have a deep understanding of their needs and perspectives.
To ensure that our solutions are community-centered, we engage with community members at every stage of the design and implementation process. We conduct community needs assessments, engage in community consultations, and work with community members to incorporate their input, ideas, and agendas into our solutions.
We also provide training to marginalized youth in the construction industry, giving them the skills they need to contribute to their communities and build a better future for themselves. Through our commitment to community engagement and training, we are well-positioned to deliver sustainable and affordable housing solutions that meet the needs of the communities we serve

Our theory of change is supported by research that shows the positive impact of eco-friendly building materials on the environment and the benefits of providing marginalized youth with training and employment opportunities. We will monitor our progress through indicators such as the number of eco-friendly houses and toilets constructed, the number of marginalized youth trained and employed, and the feedback from the communities we serve.
Justev Building Systems Ltd leverages the technology of interlocking bricks for sustainable and affordable construction. Interlocking bricks are made by compressing a mixture of soil and cement in a machine, creating a brick with interlocking teeth on each side that can be easily stacked without the need for mortar. This technology has several benefits, including reducing the cost of construction, minimizing the use of cement, and creating more durable and earthquake-resistant buildings. In addition, Justev Building Systems Ltd uses eco-friendly building materials, such as recycled plastic waste, to make their bricks. The use of interlocking bricks also provides a source of income for marginalized youth, who are trained in innovative building techniques and hired by Justev Building Systems Ltd to construct houses and other structures.
